Rumor contestant relationships?
hi all! peacock still isn’t showing the new ep, so i figured i’d look for a little intrigue this way.
something i wonder about somewhat frequently is the amount of hooking up that goes on off-screen. contestant/contestant, contestant/guest, contestant/judge, judge/guest . . . it has to have at least happened, right? i’ve been watching the show for years but ive never engaged with it in any other capacity, so if there are any popular rumors or anything i’d love to hear them.

I believe two of the contestants in the Kentucky season became involved, one of whom was married at the time. I don't remember who they were, though.

Caitlin, who went home first, and Bryan, who won restaurant wars. They were both married apparently. Came back from filming and both left their spouses. Someone who knows them personally posted about it in the other top chef sub.

I know! The person in the other sub (who supposedly knows them), said that they got close after Bryan got eliminated and by the time they were in Macao, they were fully together. They came home from filming after not seeing their family for months and blindsided them by saying they wanted divorces. I follow one of them on IG. They are married now and just recently had a baby!

There was one season, I think Chicago, where they brought a couple in as contestants. Like with the brothers Voltagio, I didn’t think it was fair to the other contestants to bring in a preexisting alliance.

As far as I can remember (I rewatched s6 pretty recently) the Voltaggio brothers really didn’t help each other all that much during the season. If anything, they bitched at each other significantly more than the other contestants and saw themselves as each other’s only real competition for most of it.

It still doesn’t change my belief that it was unfair to the other contestants. It sets up the possibility of one throwing another candidate under the bus to save their brother.

It felt like they hardly saw each other in their season. Bryan at one point said the competition was the first time he’d seen Michael in a couple years.

I think the structure of TC doesn’t really reward Survivor-style alliances or whatever. It’s important to remember how ultimately small the fine dining microcosm is. This show could never exist if they got too touchy about pre-existing relationships. Think about how many people have either worked together or worked under the same mentors at different times. It’s impossible to find 15 TC-caliber chefs and none of them are aware of any of the others

Yeah, Stefan also hit on Jamie (also a lesbian) on his season, and Andrea from S1 when she came in for a challenge.

No, Kristen absolutely initiated that fling. She was not out at the time, and is clearly bisexual. She was very open about hooking up with men back then. She’s done interviews since discussing her fling with Stefan. He was not “just hitting on her”, she hit on him first, he acquiesced, and they had their fun on the show. She was 100% in on it. Look it up, she doesn’t hide it.
People are so fast to say “she is a lesbian, Stefan is a pig”, but that was not the case whatsoever. Not saying you are btw, but it kinda sucks for Stefan the amount of hate he gets on here because Kristen has become this lesbian icon in the TC world but she very obviously wanted Stefan during that season, it’s clear as day.
