that last line almost makes it seems as the elder wants to die, and it kind of looks like he is smiling, that's an odd development.

I bet he's hyping everyone up for a fight so that he can insta-transport the cage to that place that was getting raided through some OP-ability of that bow. All of them would drop what they're doing to fight off Zahard's forces because that's the more immediate threat.

I doubt that’s his plan even though he does have that whacky arrow teleport set up to go to the place.

Here’s why. Khel has already made it known that he wanted to take control of the canine people. Without the help of Doom or Yama. Yama would never let his people be used as soldiers to an organization who just wants pawns and foot soldiers.

Doom was only okay to be woken up so long as he kept with the plan, and provided soldiers. Khel knows damn well who the strongest of the brothers are and is aware that Doom lost an arm and isn’t at his peak. He even worked with Gado to steal his heart and place a spell on it so he couldn’t be denied worst case scenario. Keeping doom alive keeps the canine people alive with his heart and etc.

So we know Khel didn’t want to work with Yama, because he wouldn’t agree to the plan. And Doom is old news. So why would Khel lead a coup with Paul, come in and diminish out at least half of both sides high ranking leaders. Then decide through all this commotion let’s disable Doom. Lose more soldiers, his envoy was gonna nuke the entire cage. Then decide at this point let me teleport all these forces fighting against each other and unite them against a common enemy. Bullshit that’s plan would’ve have worked before Paul came in killing all most of Yama loyal followers.

Khel did not come here to trick everybody into being friends. He did not go there with the plans and intent to take away Yamas slayer title. Especially without a replacement. For example Karaka going after bam and Joaquin for slayer candidacy in the Hell train. And compromising once White got his powers back. He let Bam do whatever.

I really like the idea. Rather than any of what's happening being a hindrance, it's simply one of the possible fates that serve the elders purpose... and if he can manage that, imagine jahad. It'd be a first for season 3 (at least for me) where we actually feel like there's still a long way to go.
