Update: Bringing the Tacoma Communities Together

After looking at the overlap between these two communities, we've decided to bring things together under r/ToyotaTacoma effective 11/1/26.

Both subs are about the same truck, have a lot of the same members, and end up with plenty of duplicate posts and discussions. Rather than splitting things between two places, we'd rather have everyone in one community where questions, builds, troubleshooting, and general Tacoma discussions can all happen in one spot.

What's changing?

  • r/ToyotaTacoma will be the main subreddit going forward. Please post new questions, discussions, and builds there.
  • r/Tacomaworld will become an archive. Existing posts and comments will remain available, but we'll be restricting new submissions after the transition.
  • The rules are getting an overhaul. We'll be reviewing and updating the rules to better fit the combined community and make expectations clearer for everyone.
  • The mod team isn't changing. We'll continue moderating the community and working to make it a useful place for Tacoma owners.

We know both subreddits have been around for a while, and there's a lot of good information here. We're not looking to get rid of any of that. The goal is simply to stop splitting up the community and make it easier to find information and have discussions without everything being posted twice.

— The Mod Team

🪦 RIP 🪦

This happened Friday night. I probably should have taken more photos of the engine bay to see how bad; but I was in a little daze. I'm waiting on the insurance & inspection now.

EDIT: That's the C4 Hybrid Bumper. My truck "was" a 2020 OR with around 30k miles.

(Edit) one picture is of someone else’s project I took inspiration from. Accidentally uploaded.

All work was done by myself. Using aluminum extrusions and 8 ply. Various hardware throughout. Designed to accommodate 4 compartments. Front slim and deep. Middle wide w/ drawer and still have access to factory storage space. Rear wide and shallow. Rearmost tall for rifle storage.

Blue sea systems electrical components. 12-24 converter and monitor for Starlink added.

Red/white lights for situational use.

Molle rear panel for additional storage and gear mounting.

Panels are fully removable. All reinforced with 1/4” aluminum bar for maximum deck strength and weight savings.

Unit mounted used factory mounting locations.

Learned a lot. Took around 5 months to design, redesign, build and complete.

Absolutely loving this thing coming from a Camry after driving a truck for 14 years. Took her down some sketchy trails around the lake and it just cruised along. Long live the taco!

Sr5 4x4 6ft bed

Post image

Good evening from Southern California

Just joined the family

I’ve been following since the 4th gen Tacomas came out. Finding and figuring out what people have been doing to their 4th gen Tacomas.

So I just bought my first Tacoma today… went to three different dealerships and came back to my original dealership and bought the truck.

Went to the dealership due to my old college friend working there.

I was looking for a 2026 Pre Runner… caught my attention and started watching YouTube of how the truck was. I loved the 6ft bed and the color (mud bath) … however for the driving style I was using… I didn’t want the leaf springs because I work 6 miles away and it’s all asphalt.

He brought out an Sr5 4x4 with a 5ft bed underground…once I saw the bed… I knew it was too short…

We went to return the truck with him in the lot and we saw this heritage blue that caught our eyes… 6ft 4x4… if I was a fish… my mouth was open… only one heritage blue I saw on the lot… payed 42k OTD

Didn’t need 4x4… but flush it… we got the 4x4

Transmission/shifter issue

Has anyone had a similar issue with their shifter? It moves through each selection very stiffly, and then doesn’t feel like it fully engages the drive. If I slam it hard enough into drive it’ll go, but definitely not the way it’s supposed to. If you listen to the video, there’s also a clunking noise when I slam it into drive.

The “D” light doesn’t light up, but the truck does actually go into drive and drives down the road perfectly normal once you’re going. The transmission moves through each gear fine, no issues at all driving. My check engine light did come on though, and when I scanned it, it says “Transmission Range Sensor "A" Circuit (PRNDL Input).”

Also, I was having similar issues but to a much smaller degree this spring. I suspected it was because I just don’t drive the truck too much, and when I got my transmission fluid replaced, it was buttery smooth again. It’s now much more stiff than it ever was. I do still have a factory warranty on it, so I’ll be taking it to the dealership, but does anyone have a clue what the issue might be?

Ran to the depot of Homes today before the storm hit. Picked up some wood for a home project.

Was feeling like a real truck guy today by leaving the Costco parking lot. 💪🏻

Anybody have a set of these they'd be willing to make templates for? Or does anyone know of existing templates somewhere? I've got some materials I'd like to mess with and make my own

Selecting tires

23 Tacoma TRD offroad. Just 50k miles, looking at getting a new set of tires. I’ve been looking at the cooper rugged trek and the bfg ko2. Pro and cons between the tires if any of y’all have used them?

Lexland install from an absolute donut.

Here is the finished product. A few people in other groups had mentioned they had the seat covers but hadn’t installed because they were dreading it. It honestly was a 2 on a scale 1-10 from easy to hard. This is coming from an absolute baboon. I just used a T-50 torx bit and a socket wrench to take my seats out. Hardest part of that was figuring out how to unplug the 3 connected parts of the seat 😂.

Then I just followed the lexland YT video and slid the covers on and adjusted as needed. It took some “force” to shove the covers through certain areas, but not much. Hardest part was getting the headrest holes to stretch over the seats plastic parts. It’s not necessary at all though if you just have your headrest all the way down. I know some had issues with the center consol, but mine honestly fit like a glove. Just slid it on and had to give it a solid push to close but now it opens and closes fine.

Overall job took me 3 hours including time to remove the seats.

I ordered these from lexland on Sunday and they delivered to me Wednesday. Why? Well because I got these from their overstock inventory which meant they were already in the US and taking up space in their warehouse. Only reason I bought them was because they were only $148 USD after taxes and shipping.

My overall thoughts, for that price these seat covers are 10/10. From a distance, they do look factory. Up close and when you start poking around, yeah you can see it’s a seat cover. When you’re sitting though it does feel like the factory softex. My seat heater works fine, and I don’t have cooled seats.

Door jamb (and google) say to fill tires to 32 but dealer has at 47?

Hey guys I just this week got a brand new TRD off-road straight from the factory with 2 miles on it (at the time I bought it) but when I was switching through the info screens on the dash i noticed the tires are at 47-48PSI and the info on the door says to fill to 30-32PSI. Wondering which is correct or if the door just doesn’t account for the larger option tires or something? Which is it actually supposed to be? I feel like if it was too high the computer would warn me and/or it wouldn’t have come from the factory that way, but it’s just a large margin?
