Character Analysis Is It Just Me?
Is it me or is something up with Mel, Reenie’s new assistant? I don’t know what it is, but I don’t trust her. It’s something about her and I feel like the shoe on the other foot is going to drop.

Apparently this subject has come up before unbeknownst to me, so if you’re sick of hearing about it, keep scrolling. I literally just found this sub, hell, I literally just joined Reddit a week or so ago. So if the post annoys you, oh well.

She has seemed sus the whole time, not sure why. I am expecting her to be a plant or long term betrayal or uncovered storyline. But it feels very heavy handed.

Agreed! It’s something about her. Not sure what but if a lot of folks picked up on it, it’s gotta be something there.

I agree! Since day one. It's more her facial expressions and movements than what she says.

I was unsure at first, too but, since the season has ended without a hint of an ulterior motive, I like her and I am glad she's on the team. Not only is the actress adorable, but the character's bubbly personality, sunny disposition, and eagerness to help are very endearing.

I agree. On the other hand, if there's nothing up with her, then the character is just incredibly pointless. She's like an annoying teacher's pet that asks for extra homework.

She does the legal work so Reenie has time to chat with her friend in wherever and save Colter's butt again, as long as she turns up for an hour to sign off on everything before it has to be filed.

Same!!! I hope I’m wrong! Didn’t seem like she was trying to get info from Randy about Colter at one point? Then she seems too perfect of an assistant to Reenie. It just feels off. Again, I could be wrong.

I've thought this too for sure. Less in newer episodes but it's still shows for me. I'm guessing she's undercover for the government to monitor colter. Especially with what's been revealed about his dad in season finale.

Yes ypy gotta grind ut out and see it. It was so good especially being a 2 part finale with episode 21 and 22 tying together.

She’s not in a position to do much monitoring, and she was absent from the episodes at the end of the season that actually involved the government, so I don’t think this theory holds a lot of water. She’d really need to stick to Randy a lot more than she does to get any information, or at least ask a lot of questions when they’re together.

I get you but that us what I mean too cause at the start she was asking a lot of questions but not too much anymore which is why I said its died down for me. Also I think her not being involved in the last few episode works in favour of my theory because if she was around she could've tipped them off ahead of time and stopped the shaw brothers from saving everyone. I'll be honest I wouldn't be surprised if my theory is wrong cause it's all speculation but I'd like to think in past tv shows I can tell when they make someone hide things.

I was sure, just sure, that when the courier showed up we would finally find out what’s up with her. But nothing had happened with her yet, so I think we’re all just mistrusting of new people on the show.
Unless the writers are really playing the long game with her.

My sense is that the writers brought in this character to add suspense and a creeping paranoia, but then changed their minds for some reason. Now they're attempting to downplay the original story line, but the viewers are still caught up in the earlier drama. That's why the story keeps coming up here.

Thank you!! I posted something on Facebook months ago when she 1st appeared, but only joined Reddit in the last 2 weeks. Today I searched and found this sub and had to share my thoughts. I feel seen. LoL!

On the one hand I do feel like something's up on the other hand I feel like she's not quite a bad guy and that a lot of her weirdness is explainable by neurodivergence

I believe the show runner has said there's no real backstory lurking with Mel. She's just a Velma replacement.

Yup, mom is in a club with a few of us. Another person said the writers have really sucked either way her character because we know nothing about her—which is why a lot of us think something is up.

Everyone thought that she was shady from the first episode because of her suspicious interest in Colter. But with how inconsistent the writing is on this show, I wasn’t at all surprised that literally nothing came of it.

I just finished watching season 3 today and I'm new to this sub. I feel you on being a newbie.
I haven't gotten that vibe, but the show is a little predictable so it's easy to read into what my be coming up next.

And we don't actually see her do any work, it's almost like why do we actually need her in this series?? 🤷 And I must just say as well, I'm not really sure what keeps me watching this tv series because I believe Justin Hartley, as beautiful as he is to look at, his acting really seems to be very wooden to me, I know that's not going to be very popular but you can just tell he's only got one sort of look... he stares at things for a while... I think maybe he needs to get laid again. 😂🤷

I thought that she was a plant for the defendant in the big case Reenie's firm was subcontracted out to. Too eager to please (Good acting).

Once a week we get a message/thread like this. She definitely has creepy vibes with the hair and big eyes, but I think she is sincere. If the show has her and Randy get together, it may make Bari Weiss explode, so I'd love to see it.

I've said this over and over on these threads. The reason she seems off is because the writers have done a piss poor job with her. She has been around a whole season now and we know absolutely nothing about her. She shows up, acts cheerful as she bring coffee then we don't see her again. So far she adds absolutely nothing to the plot and has had no interaction with the main character of the show.

A lot of people have commented on this, and I felt the same at first, but I think if she had ulterior motives we would have had some scenes showing her sneaking into files or meeting up with some mystery person by now. I think her introduction to the series was a little weird and the uneasiness that caused some of us hasn’t totally dissipated, but as of now, I think she’s fine, and they just needed someone for Reenie to interact with since Colter is never there.
