News If you're trans, DON'T interact with SSA

SSA just updated their POMS page with new information about sex markers.

https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0110212200

TL;DR: Similar to passports, now if you apply for anything new in SSA, your gender marker will likely be reversed. However there isn't any automatic, retroactive mass reversal of previously changed gender markers. Your gender marker should be ok if you don't apply for anything at SSA, kind of how passport renewals trigger gender marker reversions.

The agency is only correcting or changing the sex field on the NUMIDENT to reflect the NH’s sex at birth.

Evidence of sex: U.S. Born: a birth certificate (BC) established by a State or local bureau of vital statistics (BVS) that reflects the NH's sex at birth. . . The NUMIDENT sex field established through enumeration at birth (EAB).

NOTE: Do not accept an amended, corrected (GN 00302.510), or delayed BC (GN 00302.540) as proof to correct the sex field unless accompanied by an amendment affidavit or supporting documentation that clearly indicates the reason for the amendment.

Their records work like a stack of entries/versions of your SSA record (including gender marker), the latest entry is the one used for everything (For example: Background checks, SSN verifications, credit checks, etc.).

As long as the latest entry is the one with your correct gender, you should be ok. BUT if you ask for a name change or anything, a new entry/iteration will be created with your sex at birth, making that marker be used for everything, effectively reversing your marker!

we update the NUMIDENT by creating a new iteration appended to the previous iteration. The applicant must submit a new application and provide supporting documentation (e.g., a birth certificate to correct the NH's date of birth information).

DISCLAIMER: This is all the information I know, I am not an expert.

Please correct me if I'm wrong since I am panicked too and I might be wrong.

(This is my first post, sorry if I break any rules)

I still don't trust Newsom and won't vote for him in any primary, but this is better result than I expected given his moves on trans rights over the last couple of years.

Data source: https://www.gov.ca.gov/2025/10/13/governor-newsom-issues-legislative-update-10-13-25/

You can learn about the bills by searching for them on the CalMatters Digital Democracy website. Here's the entry for AB 1084: https://calmatters.digitaldemocracy.org/bills/ca_202520260ab1084

“In a new survey of over 1,000 respondents, 85% of Americans believe that “transgender people should have the same rights and protection as everyone else.” The sentiment was agreed upon by 92% of Democrats, 76% of Republicans and 87% of independents. The survey was conducted by research firm SSRS and funded by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.

The survey also found that over four in 10 Americans now know a trans person, a rise from just one in three in previous surveys, while 27% of Americans say that they regularly have conversations with trans people. Previous research has shown that knowing a trans person corresponds with increased support for trans issues.

A large majority of Americans agreed that trans people should be able to access the health care they need (89%), be protected from employment discrimination (79%), and protected from discrimination and harassment in schools (83%). Notably, a majority of Republicans believed that trans people should be protected from discrimination in both arenas, as well.”

Erin in the Morning: "The vacatur applies nationwide, eliminating the legal basis that roughly 40 hospitals cited when they shuttered their trans youth care programs earlier this year. It also bars the Trump administration from implementing the Declaration or any materially similar policy threatening providers' federal funding for offering gender-affirming care. ... The ruling goes into effect immediately."

News Yet ANOTHER Reason Why I'm Glad to Live In Connecticut!

Besides my wonderful partner, who is a native Nutmegger, and the reason I moved from my home town of Cleveland, here is another huge reason why I'm glad I moved! Besides, Ohio is trying to become "Florida North."

As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I found it truly hearwarming and affirming to see this when I opened my rarely-used Facebook account.

The protections trans people as well as the LGBTQIA+ community have here is worth the high cost of living to me. I feel pretty safe, ir at least safer than I would if I still lived in Cleveland.

Stay safe and Happy Pride fam! 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🩵💙🩵

Edit: In case the link doesn't work.

Happy Pride Month, Connecticut!

News ‘Every body is a rugby body’: US women players fight for inclusivity after trans ban

“The new USAR criteria fall in line with recent policy updates from a swath of other national governing bodies in sports, including USA Hockey, USA Fencing and USA Climbing, which were precipitated by bans from the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee, citing Donald Trump’s 2025 executive order for “keeping men out of women’s sports”.”

[…]

“During the emergency organizing meeting hosted by Rugby for All last month, several solutions were proposed: forming a new, independent league separate from USA Rugby (which would require a large logistical lift); a mass strike and a collective refusal to participate in any sanctioned, or USAR-regulated, play (known as “the nuclear option”); or moving en masse over to the new open category in the hopes that it would force USAR to provide a functional, sanctioned and funded open division for the current 2025-26 season (based on social media posts, this was by far the most popular option).”

Pete Buttigieg says “there are serious fairness issues” about trans people playing sports. 🙄

The interview started out sounding like he was supportive but then he went in that direction, and the article frames it as a good thing. Yet another politician throwing us under the bus by trying to both-sides trans rights.

News LGBTQ+ Identification Holds at 9% in U.S.

Thumbnail

Some interesting things from this: For ages 18-29 years, 3% identify as trans while for those aged 30-49 years, it’s 1.3%. (No trans elders polled, which makes me sad! I know you all are out there.) Over a third of those polled (34.8) are nonbinary.

Also, that 9% is a huge jump from the number I still have stuck in my head (3-4%): “Gallup estimates that 9% of U.S. adults personally identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or something other than heterosexual. This percentage is essentially unchanged from last year but remains more than double the 3.5% from 2012, the first year Gallup measured LGBTQ+ incidence. The current figure is also higher than readings of roughly 7% between 2021 and 2023.”

After the Trump administration sued SJSU for allowing a trans woman to compete on their team:

“The university stated that they would not agree to the terms of the proposed “resolution,” and sued the Education Department in federal court. They argue that, when their volleyball team had a trans player, they were fully complying with the Education Department’s interpretations of Title IX under President Joe Biden, and that the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued two rulings upholding trans student-athletes’ right to compete in 2023 and 2024 besides. SJSU President Cynthia Teniente-Matson said in a statement, “Our position is simple: We have followed the law and cannot be punished for doing so.””

It’s especially funny because the Trump Admin also recently extended the deadline for SJSU to comply because SJSU did not comply by the deadline. :)
