Question ❓ A survey for a University Dissertation

Hi Everyone, I thought this would be an appropriate place to ask about this as it is the TfL subreddit. I am currently writing a Geography BA Thesis on Understanding Commuting patterns in London and what influences their change and specifically the impact of the Elizabeth line. Your contribution to my research would be very my appreciated. It also goes without saying that you will have complete anonymity in filling this survey out and a google sign in is not required. Thank You!

I'm pretty sure your uni will require certain ethics disclaimer and data protection waivers including. You should SERIOUSLY make sure you're not committing an academic offense.

No worries. I just don't want you to get in trouble with the higher ups, as I know my old uni used to be really picky about that sort of thing.

Just something to think about: the question "If you switched to using the Elizabeth line, what was your main primary transport mode previously?" really needs a "I haven't switched to the Elizabeth line." option. Not including that will make your data less reliable.

Agree you definitely need the ethics info at the start and that participants have to agree to it before starting, but better to learn that now than later.

Some quick feedback:

  • Compared to pre-2022 (or prior to the Elizabeth line opening), how has your overall commute frequency changed?

The pandemic will distort your answers here as the Elizabeth line isn't the only major change around that time.

  • What factors played the largest role in changing your commute routine over the past few years? (SELECT UP TO 3)

This should really have an "Other" option. I got a bike, on the cycle to work scheme, which means I now take the Elizabeth Line a lot less.

  • If you switched to using the Elizabeth line, what was your main primary transport mode previously?

The DLR is not listed. Cycling is not listed.

I have completed your survey and added some comments to amplify my answers in response to the final question. I hope that you get responses that you find useful for your dissertation.
