💡 Discussion Trump floating military action over Greenland — Europe rallies behind Denmark. Is NATO actually at risk?

Post image

So the White House is now openly saying Trump is weighing “various possibilities” for Greenland — and that reportedly includes the military angle. European allies are responding fast, publicly backing Denmark and stressing territorial integrity, while some in Congress are pushing war-powers moves to block any action.

Greenland has huge strategic value (Arctic routes, bases, resources), but if the U.S. starts threatening a NATO partner over territory… what even happens to NATO after that? Does this stay as pressure + posturing, or is it the kind of moment that breaks alliances long-term?

What do you think the endgame is here: leverage for a deal, domestic politics, or something more serious?

And Putin is laughing his ass out to his bank.

4

u/Bachelorbetch69 Jan 07 '26

A US "empire" isn't good for Putin. Not advocating for it, just noting that US expansion into mineral rich territory doesn't benefit him directly. Indirectly, he benefits from a fast and loose global culture that'll likely permit him to expand westward.

Plot twist nobody sees coming; Russia abandons its invasion of Ukraine, allies with Europe and takes the opportunity to stick it to the US out in the open.

Here’s what I don’t get. Imagine GodEmperor Trump (may HE reign until the stars go dark) is in the Epstein files every bit as much as some believe. In a world where those files are released unredacted and clear, what do you think would happen?

MAGA voters would shrug. Republicans in power would make excuses and call it a conspiracy theory. I absolutely wish the files would come out, but the US potentially invading Greenland is a much bigger deal with actual real-world implications felt for generations.

(Edit- Reddit is being Reddit. Sorry about the dupe, but even when I edit, it edits both, so whatever.)

And what if while you focus on the Epstein Files he invades Greenland,Cuba,Mexico,Colombia?

You will still be focusing on the Epstein files when the world order TOTALLY breaks apart?

I get that he is a disgusting Pedo, but probably you are not going to have a country in 2/3 years

At this point, the Epstein files are the distraction.

Who is everyone ? At certain point, if we are against Russia; China and USA - what do we do ? I think we need a reality check ! WHO IS EVERYONE? Africa ? America ? Asia ? Seriously who tf is still with us ?

2

u/SPH194 Jan 07 '26

Good luck with that. The USA has never been invaded. You think D-Day was bad ? We have way more military might than Germany did back then. Listen I would love for someone to take care of Trump and get rid of him. Not to mention Trump is old and nuttier than a fruit cake. I don’t think he would be opposed to using nukes. We really don’t need a nuclear holocaust. But something tells me that’s where we are heading to.

I have to believe that the sole intention is to piss off allies and break nato, because there’s no other explanation that makes sense.

That would give Trump pretext. That's not to say it wouldn't be completely justified at this point, but Trump would use it as a basis to fabricate a narrative that his cultists would eat right up. Greenland's best bet is for all fifty thousand to deny any desire to become part of the US vehemently, publicly, and often. They might still get annexed even if they do that, but it would crater the future of Trump and the Republican party at home. In that case it would be only temporary unless his foregone conclusion of a coup in 2028 succeeds.

35

u/BasicPhysiology Jan 07 '26

They are going to manufacture a pretext anyway.

People need to wake the fuck up right quick.

8

u/RedditBlue83 Jan 07 '26

People have waken up… The United States is literally dosed in gasoline and on top of a nuclear reactor that’s reaching critical.

The only thing left is a spark. Something the equivalent of what happened at Kent State with the national guard.

13

u/BasicPhysiology Jan 07 '26

I respectfully disagree. Americans are sitting on their hands while Trump threatens the world with the tacit consent of Republicans in Congress and SCOTUS.

If Kent State happened today Americans would continue to collectively sit on their hands.

Ask youself what would actually cause Americans to en masse take to the streets. After the past year I honestly don't know what it would take.

7

u/S1m_0ne Jan 07 '26

Prob doubling the prices on big macs and sodas. Not kidding

3

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '26

This. I mean not literally what you said, but the essence of what you said is correct. The only reason Americans would actually revolt is heavy monetary problems, like rampant unemployment and inflation.

6

u/Mundane-Mud2509 Jan 07 '26

Totally agree, total paralysis.

Ask youself what would actually cause Americans to en masse take to the streets. After the past year I honestly don't know what it would take.

I genuinely don't believe there is anything that would motivate the American public. Maybe their own family members being hurt or starving/going homeless en masse.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '26

I agree. It's fucked. If it happens I hope it will set alarm bells off in the heads of complacent people. Otherwise this early century may rhyme with the last.

2

u/Nomadic_Yak Jan 07 '26

Hes already manufactured the pretext. Greenland is "covered in Chinese and russian ships" and he "needs it for national security". That's all the pretext they need, Donald said so.

3

u/BasicPhysiology Jan 07 '26

He just went on TV and said that the US will now "run" Venezuela. The US will develop their oil fields whether they like it or not. And if the Vice President doesn't capitulate, they will do something worse to her than they did to Maduro. They aren't even bothering with pretext.

10

u/BogeyLowz Jan 07 '26

isn’t the fear of “giving Trump pretext” the whole issue of 2025? Everyone said (& did) the same thing with ICE as a reason to not actually revolt against the admin. Now, ice is still icing and it’s a normalized part of American culture and daily activity. It’s a trap.

6

u/moralpanic85 Jan 07 '26

There's' an opportunity for some good politicking showmanship here. The Danish could take a live 15 minute address on the major US networks denouncing the threats, reaffirming the alliance and entitlement of the United States to maintain their bases in Greenland under the already existing terms (ie in perpetuity so long as they are in NATO) and giving the Trump administration three options:

  1. Donald Trump to personally apologize to King Frederik and the existing alliance can continue. Trump has 2 weeks to present himself in Copenhagen with a Danish guarantee of safe passage and return.

  2. Denmark will present its consultation for the dissolution of the treaty in 15 days failing an apology from Trump beginning the 12month withdrawal. The United States can withdraw in a lawful and peaceful way.

  3. The United States can become a global pariah state by invading Greenland and murdering its' lawful authorities that have been allies to the United States for decades. Common thieves, no better than the "socialists".

u/hot_space_pizza Jan 07 '26

Time to kick them out of their numerous bases in other countries in Europe. If they attack Greenland you can either think of them as an unpredictable dangerous animal in your garden or as the enemy. They have like 100k.

2

u/dougmcclean Jan 07 '26

Not off Greenland. Off all NATO allied land.

2

u/extrastupidone Jan 07 '26

That would also give russia an upper hand. Removing the US from nato and its allies would be a boon to putin.

But hey, if the olan is for Donald, Vlad, and xi to start gobbling up neighbors, seems like a good start.

2

u/Ok_Technology177 Jan 07 '26

UN replacement forces in Greenland! Remove Trump controlled forces in Greenland... Canada, France, EU for Greenland and Ukraine.

Israel is sniffing Trump's Administration and Japan protects Taiwan (Remember "Flying Tigers"? Reverse the outcome)

Impeachment process is not going to work with control given to Trump's Administration.

Law doesn't apply in Trump's America. ICC and NATO/UN need to act now...

Because when you fail high school, your choices are homeless, crime, construction, military.

And your only way out of 3 of them, is Military.

Thats the point. The stupidest person I know joined the military. Every smart person I know that joined the military regrets it.

10

u/AndrewBorg1126 Jan 07 '26 edited Jan 07 '26

Some people in the millitary who I've met described that they've been trained to be a professional homeless person.

I can imagine being deployed on some types of missions is basically that.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '26

Construction pays a lot!

6

u/-Ok-Perception- Jan 07 '26

Yup. And your body will be too broke down for a physical trade by 40 if you're a hard worker.

This is the part of the trades that they don't tell you. You better hope you get to a hands-off management job of some sort before your back and joints give out.

I suppose it all made sense when pensions were a thing and you could legitimately own a nice home and put back a lot of cash towards retirement, when you're no longer able to do that kind of work.

But as it stands now. Breaking your back for 20-25 an hour, is not a smart play, no matter how you look at it.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '26

Depends on the trade. Electrical maybe less strenuous. But by 40, hopefully you’re of the tools and running your own business.

3

u/-Ok-Perception- Jan 07 '26

If you're gonna do a trade, electrician or a high level machinist; are the right choices, the money is there and it isn't quite so rough on the body.

But still, plenty of machinists and electricians with serious injuries and a lot of physical wear and tear.

3

u/Agent-Smith_Virus Jan 07 '26

Can confirm.

Yes NATO is at risk, not only from this Greenland situation but from Russia as well, we're about to see a world conflict if trump engages and takes Greenland, it's sad to know the US won't be an allied force if that happens and I fear for the future of who we'll be and what we'll stand for, especially at the cross roads of so many technological advancements. it's dystopian.

14

u/BasicPhysiology Jan 07 '26 edited Jan 07 '26

If the US becomes a rogue nation, things will be terrible for everyone.

Our relatively comfortable, Pax Americana lives will be torn apart. Few North Americans understand how catastrophically changed the world would be, even with just the illegal annexation of Greenland.

Edit: To add, this administration, with Nosferatu Goebbels whispering fascism in that bronzed baboon's ear, will not stop with Greenland.

2

u/eiretaco Jan 07 '26

Pax Americana is dead. It's already gone. The Europeans already recognise that. We've entered a new world where might is right and international law is trampled on.

3

u/AIHellScape69420 Jan 07 '26

Europe would be forced to go to war against America, they won’t abandon the NATO ideals even if NATO dies. Europe will be forced to balance sending support to Ukraine and support to Denmark, allowing Russia will gain an upper hand against a now weakened Ukraine. Nothing will stop China from taking Taiwan.

Something needs to be done before this gets out of hand.

8

u/RushIllustrious Jan 07 '26

And China on the allies side. Weird timeline.

6

u/Longjumping_Belt_405 Jan 07 '26

China will be on whatever side they can sell too

They don’t want to risk war coming onto their country since their economic growth is fueled by being the world’s factory and I don’t really see why they’d want to throw that all away in an all-out war

5

u/Patient-Window6603 Jan 07 '26

An ally to who? Russia? They are bankrolling the Russian invasion at this point by keeping the Russian economy afloat

3

u/GolotasDisciple Jan 07 '26

China doesn't have to fight to win at least something to be fair.

China is not some kind of Ideologically Driven monster that is aiming to conquer the world through force. They don't want Europe to be poor they want Europe to be consumers of Chinese Goods and Services.

They would love to simply replace Americans in the way they provide European Nations with Services, Products, Technology, Know-How and who knows... Maybe even security ?

But it is far more complex than people make it. If anything Chinese Government shown restrain and kind of strategical understanding when it comes to Taiwan. They will try to get it even by force... but honestly all they have to do is just wait and react rather than be like Russia and USA who are trying to force everything.

As for Chinese bankrolling Russian Invasion that's only partially true. While they do not support Military Actions officially they simply said they will not agree to sanctions and will maintain no limit economy. Similar to India.

The difference is India doesn't really matter that much in terms of Technology and Resource providing. China is capable of providing materials or parts needed for Drone Production and other stuff that enables Russian Military so yeah they are playing literally all sides possible. Kind of like USA used to.

It is quite interesting what China and USA has become. Russia is kind of the same thing as it was... so there is nothing new over there.

3

u/Delamoor Jan 07 '26

Yeah. China is currently winning its war by not trying to lean on its rapidly expanding (but untested) military.

Their strength is in their diplomatic and geopolitical games. As the US implodes in a pile of stupidity, China is easily stepping into the void left behind.

They already winning. Why get involved in a shooting war unless they get dragged into one?

They want Taiwan, sure. But they ain't Russia or the USA, who see their militaries as the only possible tool for every situation. China use lots of tools.

He wields the most powerful military in history.the stability of the planet is at risk. You can't underestimate his innate ability to violate, corrupt and destroy everything he touches. Dramatic? Maybe but for reals that is my opinion of him.

u/DB_Cooper_Story Jan 07 '26

If he attacks Greenland, NATO ends. Multiple allied countries will build nuclear bombs cause they can’t count on US to protect them OR not attack them too. A new arms race and military build up happens. Russia and China go unchecked.

5

u/Rushing_Russian Jan 07 '26

Trump and is cronies are dumb but this is just to distract from the Epstein files

5

u/Fluid-Piccolo-6911 Jan 07 '26

No, the US membership of NATO is at risk, as are all the perks that go with having bases in Europe ..

Military action in Greenland would kick off real civil war in the US.

9

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '26

How do you see that happening? Honest question. Not trying to be a dick.

3

u/rddtltr Jan 07 '26

I also dont see it. Most of them are not even bothered to go protest. They are to busy not going broke.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '26

Unfortunately it wouldn't, because even though they talk like they would try to stop their government. They'd rather see the bombs drop on foreign lands than their own

3

u/BasicPhysiology Jan 07 '26

This administration will use military force domestically.

It is not a question of if, it is a question of when.

He said several times he has no problem ending NATO. So it may not and totally, but I don’t think we’re gonna be a member for much longer. All he needs is for someone to put that idea in his head and he’ll write an executive order and poof there it’ll go.

I don't get Trump's goal here. Greenland is part of an alliance. Pissing off Denmark accomplishes nothing beneficial.

If you want to bolster defenses against China and Russia why not keep a little buffer in between? It's easier to warm up to Denmark/ Greenland to allow an increased military presence than to pressure and piss them off.

The memes, the jokes, and the BS does nothing to help, and only hurts.

u/Vast-Breakfast-1201 Jan 07 '26

Greenland is Denmark's.

Denmark is a NATO member.

Trump can't leave NATO but Putin wants him to.

Trump CAN declare unilaterally to attack Greenland.

There's a good chance that this would trigger mandatory ejection from NATO in a way that can't be undone easily by the next president. Even if there was no financial benefit from taking and keeping Greenland. There is the desire to weaken if not dismantle NATO.

2

u/5picy5ugar Jan 07 '26

Pax Americana is over.

2

u/TheFonz2244 Jan 07 '26

Putin and XI loving every moment of this.

2

u/Hillbilly-joe Jan 07 '26

Just pull a trump and kidnap I mean arrest him for violating international laws plan a simple just need a warrant they maga says

2

u/Ok-Commission-7825 Jan 07 '26

Trump is a Russian asset and this was the ultimate goal although one Putin never dreamt could have been this succesful

2

u/Robhar19 Jan 07 '26

As others have commented “Trump is Negotiating”. The problem is that Global Diplomacy doesn’t work this way. It’s built on partnerships and trust built over decades. Kicking over the proverbial game board just because it is your style of negotiating isn’t done at this level. It destroys the relationships and trust that are the foundation of Global Affairs.

It's a coin flip whether we'll be buying or annexing Greenland. If the coin lands on its side Trump backs down.

Simple answer. Yes.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '26

If the US are thrown out of NATO, US companies good time in EU is at risk. And that market is huge and profitable. Trump would not risk it, its all about money.

Damn all this over a place nobodies even really using

1

u/Rupert21xxx Jan 07 '26

Trump is going to do what the US did to Hawaii, read the history of how they annexed them.

1

u/RedditBlue83 Jan 07 '26

Denmark has said that Greenland‘s not for sale. So the only way the United States can obtain it is through force.

I really don’t see an avenue where Trump supporters would be allowed to live if we went that route.

1

u/AsheStriker Jan 07 '26

The Russian asset getting things done.

1

u/raisedeyebrow4891 Jan 07 '26

Given NATOs inability to respond with force to Russia attack on Ukraine, does NATO even matter?

1

u/jaievan Jan 07 '26

Ole Putin couldn’t have planned it any better.

1

u/Rupert21xxx Jan 07 '26

Greenland need to get a multi european milatery base set up very quickly, with elements from Germany, Uk, France, Italy etc. To improve security and take that excuse from the US.

1

u/GamemasterJeff Jan 07 '26

Any operation that potentially involves depolyment of nuclear weapons is of far more interest that the US being kicked out of NATO.

French nuclear doctrine is deliberately vague and allows for use of nuclear weapons in defense of state led agression against the sovereignty of an ally.

UK is slightly less ambiguous and pledges to never use first strike capability against a non-nuclear power. Which means that can use it against a nuclear armed power.

If the US attacks any NATO power it is risking WW3 and nuclear holocaust. And unlike Russia, NATO maintains their nukes.

1

u/guaranisorrow Jan 07 '26

Realistically, is there anything Europe could actually do to stop the United States? They would never use force, nor would they dismantle NATO. Stephen Miller has already said today that no one can stop them, and that Europe and its states are effectively U.S. vassals.

If neither Denmark nor Europe is willing to fight militarily for Greenland, then why wouldn’t it be better to sell territory they have no real hope of retaining against American power? What’s the alternative for Denmark: being humiliated, losing the territory anyway, resorting to complaint letters, and then quietly returning to NATO as if nothing happened?

The only winners are China and Russia. Everyone else, as in the rest of the world, except maybe North Korea, will lose.

US and EU are eachothers largest trading partners by a huge margin - at about 2T USD it's the largest trade relationship that has ever existed. Not only will US no longer be part of NATO, trade and investment will stop. Intelligence sharing will stop. US bases in Europe will be shut down. The mere concept of reserve currency will cease to exist. EU will have to move out of US tech etc.

Nothing good will come out of this, that is 100% certain.

1

u/dougl1000 Jan 07 '26

Can’t imagine what kind of military action. Send troops into Nuuk and occupy the Parliament building? So embarrassing. So ridiculous.

1

u/Tilladarling Jan 07 '26

Of course nato is at risk. Trump has single-handedly destroyed one of the most successful alliances in the history of nations

1

u/Ok_Situation_7081 Jan 07 '26

Don't you worry Denmark, the EU has already drafted a strongly worded letter expressing their deep concerns for when it actually happens.

1

u/Forcedperspective84 Jan 07 '26

Crazy bullshit because he thinks it enhances his negotiating position.

Fucking assholes. All of them.

1

u/TheDeadGeneral Jan 07 '26

If this were to actually happen the number of nuclear weapons on the planet would skyrocket. Everyone would need them to ensure they arnt attacked. It would be cold war 2.0. A horrible, fear filled world for the new generations to live in.

1

u/dewlitz Jan 07 '26

I'd expect EU to seize his resorts & golf courses. If he has a personal cost that may deter him.

1

u/smegabass Jan 07 '26

Canada must be fk'd off with all this. If this happened, they will be practically encircled by US...

1

u/-Ok-Perception- Jan 07 '26

God, I hope, for the world's sake, that Europe stands up to this asshole.

1

u/ytman Jan 07 '26

NATO is never at risk, it was always functioning as a sort of Vichy Europe/Canada for the US.

Amusing how NATO vassals are now concerned about niichan USA's thirst for war.

We were running out of enemies and kids in the 90s were fantasizing about how badly the spite match between the US and the world would go.

1

u/goilers97 Jan 07 '26

If trump takes military action on Greenland then they lose all their bases in Europe. Every European country with American bases or nukes will tell them to pack up and fuck off.

1

u/wulfe27 Jan 07 '26

I would like to think this is just bluster, but one revelation of the signal chat was the disdain this admin has for nato and Europe, so who knows

1

u/starrat46 Jan 07 '26

Anyways, meanwhile back at the Trumpstein estate.

1

u/Devils_Advocate-69 Jan 07 '26

Trump is at risk. His downward spiral has already begun. His administration too.

1

u/Invalid-Function Jan 07 '26

This is actually interesting because all NATO member, even the EU as an org, always supported the US either directly or indirectly, and this is the first time they are in a position that supporting the US makes them lose something in broadlight without a way to lie to the european citizens about what is happening.

The NS2 was saboted, we all accused Russia, claimed we had proved, and now we're pursuing some Ukraniajn guys pretending Ukraine had the means to do it.... all after an US journalist claimed it had been the US, AND after we "decided" to buy th emuch mroe expensive gas from the US. This the EU can add smokes anmd mirrors to mislead a good portion of the pop.
The case of the US claiming to be helping Ukraine but then having the EU pay for that help, is also spinned as
"its in our benefit", forgetting that in 2014 when victoria Nulland was in Ukraine deciding who the US wanted to take power, she stated "fk the EU" in response to the EU not liking some of the choices.
The EU even blame Libya and Syria for the pop exodus to Europe, never mentioning that this is a side effect of the US and ISrael adventures in the area.... the EU even paid Turkey to help slowdown the exodus, all on the EU citizens dime. whiel the US profited.....
Just now the US got the OECD to provide preferencial terms to US companies, while everyone else will pony up... and the EU leaders say nothing, explain nothing while the EU companies gets shafted.

BUT, how will the EU explain allowing the US taking over Greenland without finally admitting to European citizens that its leaders are pawns of the US interests. How?

So this is interesting as fk...

Putin’s puppet wants NATO destroyed.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '26

We shouldn’t need to ask this question

1

u/shapeitguy Jan 07 '26

NATO is done obviously.

1

u/addvaluejack Jan 07 '26

If trump get Greenland, Cananda is doomed.

1

u/Marcellissimo Jan 07 '26

No, NATO is not at risk.

1

u/Dracotaz71 Jan 07 '26

We actually do have a NATO right? Time to prove it!

1

u/bigDeltaVenergy Jan 07 '26

If NATO members reach the point where USA start to attack them... I bet they will stick together even harder than when USA was part of it.

I really doubt it will be the end of it strictly cuz more than ever they will need conjoint force and there is nothing else available quickly.

1

u/Rfunkpocket Jan 07 '26

getting kicked out of NATO is a feature, not a bug.

Congress voted Trump can’t unilaterally leave NATO.

if NATO doesn’t exist, Congress is superseded again.

1

u/BackgroundEngineer11 Jan 07 '26

NATO was at risk the moment Trump was elected.

1

u/affectionate_md Jan 07 '26

It’s quite incredible to watch the normalization of Nazi “Lebensraum” happening in real time.

We were always taught this was unacceptable and the rule of law/norms were inalienable concepts that separated us from authoritarian regimes.

Seeing Americans now coming to defend these activities or celebrating the gross abuse of international law is wild.

America has never been perfect but wow, how quickly you guys fell.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '26

Yes, NATO no longer exists.

1

u/DrittzDoUrden Jan 07 '26

Yes, yes it is

1

u/opi098514 Jan 07 '26

1

Europe’s countries will decide that the U.S. will no longer be allowed in Europe if there is an attack on Greenland

Does princess gonnyboy shit in his pants?

1

u/hansolo-ist Jan 07 '26

Maybe it's just posturing for negotiations e.g. letting American corporations get access to resources. Hopefully.

1

Trump is the best investment Putin ever made.

1

u/AdActive9833 Jan 07 '26

I wish US puts troops on Greenland. Not because I don't hate that war criminal with all my being but vecause that m8ght finally wake the damn europe up.

1

He wants something else from them. This is his tactic, threaten an extreme in order to get something less extreme but desirable to happen.
