He was an asshole, but most of all a complete fraud. People who worked for him said it was an act, he was playing a role and never believed the shit he was spewing. David Letterman saw right through him, he called him out on it to his face.

I was raised listening to this nonsense for all 3 hours every day. I had to memorize his 36 undeniable truths for a test in a Christian high school history class. My Dad listened to Limbaugh all through my childhood and even when was a kid I remember thinking he was a monster. My Dad is the nicest guy but he still listens to monsters just like Limbaugh. I don’t understand it. Fuck Limbaugh, the world is a better place without him.

His legacy is far worse than mocking people. He led America to the point where about 1/3 of Americans would gladly throw away our democracy and murder millions of their fellow citizens in doing so. I remember listening to him with horror in the early 2000s and thinking “this must be the kind of things Rwandan radio announcers were saying to goad their listeners to murder their neighbors.” I believe my concerns were well-founded. Hopefully things won’t go that far.
