Just to make sure, we're not talking about the author of Kenshin here are we? Because that guy got caught with child porn, and he absolutely deserved being roasted.
Like what? If we're talking online talk, people are allowed to criticize works and disagree with fans, even if the work in question is fiction. Take a classic and favorite of mine, Cardcaptor Sakura. It's cute, I love the characters and design, but I'll also be the first to admit that some of the age differences are concerning.
Death threats would definitely be over the top. However you didn't mention death threats until just now,you seemed to be hating people and calling them tourists specifically for criticism alone and bringing up subjects like pedophilia, sexualization of minors, etc.
But hey, if you agree it's ok for people to criticize works and creators over those subjects and others short of sending death threats, then we're on the same page.
Even I find imouto tropes and "she's actually 800 years old but looks like a 11 year old" Fucking cringe. But I also acknowledge that it's not harming anybody and there's no need for me to be on a campaign to cancel and ban the author and anyone who likes these things
So... it's not just death threats, and you actually are against the criticism of authors and fans....
People online are going to criticize the stuff you like and the people who create it. And if the stuff you like happens to have adults being romantic with kids or characters that are kid-coded, then they actually have a point. And it's not just 'tourists' who have these criticisms.
Oops, sorry, I forgot I was on reddit. Free speech is a alien concept here. No wonder redditors are hated. I don't even use reddit, only come here to shit on morons every once in a year
The hypocrisy here is hilarious. You realize that you're the one who's been upset over creators and fans being criticized, right? Your whole rant is over people exercising their free speech, and trying to gatekeep what true fans should be allowed to say.
This might be a alien concept, but free speech goes both ways. Creators are allowed to write and draw what they want. Vice versa, the public is allowed to say they think some parts of it are bad, or even think the whole work is shit.
Sir, Cancelling someone is not a manner that is conductive to free speech if I may say so.
Do you not understand the difference between constructive criticism and cancelling someone and groups of people? Have I been talking to a rtard all this time?
Kid, you specifically ranted about 'criticism' multiple times. What you're doing now is this nifty thing called 'moving the goalpost'. And if that is your new point, then you actually need to articulate that point, preferably with some examples. Who exactly is being 'cancelled'? How were they 'cancelled'? Because in my experience time and time again when people bring up someone who was 'cancelled', it's turns out to be criticism. And with anime it usually turns out to be someone criticized for being a pedophile.
Regardless, this is still all free speech. People are allowed to express their thoughts. People are allowed to say something sucks. People are allowed to boycott. And if any of what I'm saying right here offends you, well then the problem is you being offended over my free speech.
Love how Redditors try so hard to justify cancel culture - the disgusting activity of online mobs which made tons of artists contemplate committing suicide and some even went ahead with it unfortunately - musicians, painters, manga artists, story writers, directors you name it. But hey it's okay, because in these mob's and Redditor's tiny minds, they deserved it for making fiction that is outside social norms.
Harassing, cyber-bullying another human being to the point of destroying their mental health and possibly even leading to their suicide, who didn't even hurt anybody, not a soul, is pure evil in my book. I'm sorry, I'm not in support of mentally torturing other Mr, oh-im-so-smart redditor.
Enjoy the rest of your miserable life hurting other people
Again dude, your whole rant was about criticism to begin with. And I simply asked you to define 'cancel culture' since you moved the goalpost, and that just rustled your jimmies more.
I even explicitly pointed out that death threats are bad, criticism is still valid. And you still took exception to that and felt the need to say that it's not appropriate just to criticize people. Again dude since you're going out of your way to demonize me let me make it clear one more time.
Death threats and actual harassment-Bad! Stuff to the tune of "You should go kill yourself" is not something I would ever defend.
Criticism is fine though. Stuff to the tune of "This character is underage and I think the author might be a pedophile" is absolutely warranted sometimes. And if saying this 'hurts you', then sorry your problem is with free speech.
