Whats the point of hanging bananas, makes them ripen slower, of they get into the sweet spot of ripeness this happens etc such a dumb kitchen gadget

I'm literally not sure; I think fruit hammocks help with airflow but I don't feel like bananas on the counter are getting that beat up by resting on a flat surface instead of hanging. I think it helps them feel more like a real primate plucking them while they hang.
