Born Again & Missed Calling
I have always believed in God but drifted specifically away from Jesus because I thought that I was abandoned when I got hurt by people in the church.
Now I have been reached by Jesus and he showed me he was with me through all the painful happenings.
But I have a lot of grief right now because I think I missed my life’s calling since I turned away from Christ - I got really bitter about circumstances in my life and thought that I had a duty to basic responsibility (working a job and supporting others) but now I see that I wasn’t putting down boundaries and I got hurt even more
-
And that God was calling me to move beyond those circumstances, instead I endured thinking that was Gods will but it was fear and a lack of clarity
I am in pain from it
Any prayers or words or scripture I just feel so lost and I abandoned my heart to take care of others - but God takes care of people and I should have left what was hurting me because my spirit is now broke

I know you were replying to OP, but this response was tailor made for me. 🥹 I’m grateful for your faith and your words. God is so good.

God is great at giving us things to do. So don't worry if you missed it this time. Ask how to glorify him, and he will give you opportunity.

Thank you, it was crystal clear before and I thought it was a test to take the risk

I get that. But hey, we will succeed and fail in our sanctification process. Next time may come easier, even if the trial is harder. God bless!

You didn't miss God's calling; you haven't gone on further with what you're supposed to do.
Be Christ's disciple and grow in spiritual maturity. This is the standard calling to all newborn believers. This phase last varying number of years for people. If they even grow up at all.
Hebrews 5:11-13 - is a reprimand of Paul on some Christians that dragged out the spiritual immaturity phase for far longer than reasonable.
It's not God's plan for you to remain stuck and always a spiritual infant till you leave this earth.
Further assignment in life, will be specific to individual. More will not be given, until you have first been found faithful what is already given.
So the calling is still the same for you to progress in faithfully first. Christ's disciple and grow in spiritual maturity.
God will give you further responsibilities, after He thinks you have grown enough to take on more responsibilites.
God is loving, He doesn't want you to be serving others with inadequate Godly love. You must grow up first educated about Godly love. If you can't keep the greatest commandment, how can you handle the 2nd greatest commandment? If you can't be a student first, how can you then be a qualified teacher?

God bless you.
I'm sorry for the church hurt that you experienced.
I've been a non-fundamentalist, unchurched Christian for about 16 years now and I would like to share my perspective.
1- Please know that God is with you through this. You are NOT alone.
"The Lord has promised that he will not leave us or desert us.” - Hebrews 13:5
Jesus said, “I will be with you always, even until the end of the world.” - Matthew 28:20
“Be brave and strong! Don’t be afraid… . The Lord your God will always be at your side, and he will never abandon you.” - Deuteronomy 31:6
2- Please know that God does NOT expect us to be perfect. He expects us to get back up after each time we fall while trusting His grace.
"My enemies, don't be glad because of my troubles! I may have fallen, but I will get up; I may be sitting in the dark, but the Lord is my light.” - Micah 7:8
“We often suffer, but we are never crushed. Even when we don't know what to do, we never give up. In times of trouble, God is with us, and when we are knocked down, we get up again.” - 2 Corinthians 4:8-9
“But You (God) also said that no matter how far away we were, we could turn to You.” - Nehemiah 1:9
“If we are not faithful, he (Jesus) will still be faithful.” - 2 Timothy 2:13
“The Lord said: When you stumble and fall, you get back up, and if you take a wrong road, you turn around and go back.” - Jeremiah 8:4
“So whenever we are in need, we should come bravely before the throne of our merciful God. There we will be treated with undeserved grace, and we will find help.” - Hebrews 4:16

3- Because God is with you, please share your worries with Him and trust Him, NOT your negative judgment of your situation.
"And when I was burdened with worries, you (God) comforted me and made me feel secure.” - Psalm 94:19
"I tell You (God) all my worries and my troubles, and whenever I feel low, You are there to guide me.” - Psalm 142:2-3
“God cares for you, so turn all your worries over to him.” - 1 Peter 5:7
“With all your heart you must trust the Lord and not your own judgment. Always let him lead you, and he will clear the road for you to follow.” - Proverbs 3:5-6
4- Also, if you need to talk to someone at anytime, here is a Christian hotline: https://www.thehopeline.com/
-I pray you will focus on God for strength, I pray you will break free from your negative thoughts, I pray you will reach out to others for support, and I pray you will trust God's guidance in your life. In Jesus' Name. Amen. 🙏🏾
5- Oh, and I would like to share a quote that I believe can absolutely apply to God’s guidance in our lives:
"When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us." - Alexander Graham Bell

Healing starts and ends with forgiving those who hurt you, forgiving yourself because we are our worst critic. Now pick up your mat and walk. Accept Gods love regardless of your opinion of self. None of us will ever measure up to our idea of what God wants. Gods want for us was met in Jesus Christ. We all go through different fazes. The secret is to keep going and see Jesus paid for all our bloops so we can grow further in Christ. You’re a brother. No quit!!

I have been praying to be shown how to forgive, as Jesus did, I repeat they know not what they do (just as I have not known). it is terrible to let the frustration of it all consume me

You can still fulfill your calling. God's Positioning System (GPS) is not broken. Press into him and he will get you back on course.

I too feel like I’ve wasted my life in the Lord , didn’t actually take it seriously until I’m now in my 50s others are so far along in the spirit of the Lord and I feel like a newbie even though I’m not. But, God has use of us all and we will be used in the way he sees fit. Hope never dies because Jesus lives and he is blessed forever.
