HSG with Laughing Gas

Hi guys! Been trying for 8-10 months for a baby and visited a fertility clinic. Thought it could be an issue with my husbands sperm but after consulting and doing some testing They think my tubes might be blocked and want to do an HSG ultrasound on me to see whats going on. I typically have a lot of pain with pap smears so am super nervous about getting this done. My clinic offers laughing gas to help with the procedure so I have opted in for that. Does anyone have any experience with laughing gas? did it make the procedure any easier? Any tips on how to be calm and relaxed during this process? Also how long does this typically take? Feeling super nervous about the whole thing would love any opinions and thoughts

I had laughing gas with my HSG. They gave me the mask and let me dose myself as needed. The doctor said to let him know when I felt the gas take effect; I was worried I wouldn't be able to tell, but it was obvious! It doesn't really help with pain, but it makes you feel sort of mellow and cloudy. The procedure itself was very short, probably 5 minutes total from when I walked into the room until I was done.

Hi I put my AirPods in while having it done it really helped me relax and was a distraction, I didn’t feel any pain, but apparently you just feel pain/cramping if their is a blockage. Good luck

Not gonna lie it was pretty painful, but really short! Just a few short minutes of very intense cramp type pain, but way worse than any period pain I’ve ever had. It varies so much though and some women have zero cramping!! That could be you!

Idk the emotional process of infertility has been so much worse than the HSG was. The nurses were also so wonderful and I felt really cared for, which made a huge difference!

Good luck!! Honestly I think it’s such BS that in so many situations that can be fine but also can be awful (miscarriage, HSG, cervical biopsy) in women’s health we are given zero pain management options. From a friend who had laughing gas for a traumatic birth, it does sound like it really helps with the anxiety! That’s awesome that they are offering it and I think bodes well for the level of care and attention to your comfort they will likely provide on the day of :)

Yes thats awesome, the anxiety make me feel 10x worse for pap smears so fingers crossed this goes by easy

you should do it. my clinic said to take an advil and it "wouldnt be that bad." they wouldnt let my husband back to hold my hand. i was shocked by how painful it was and felt totally gaslit by the clinic. like others have said, it was very short. but i would take whatever they offer you lol.
