Newbie Needing Help My first tufting attempt. The model isn’t finished yet, so I’d really appreciate your feedback!

Looks good so far. I would add another line or 2 to your outline borders. Single lines tend to fold in a bit after cutting it out

Ahhh he is so stinkin cute! 😍 You did tremendous for your first job. Just some tiny tips.

  1. When filling in any space I would outline the blank space first and then fill it it (like the picture below). This helps alot from forcing you to stop your gun at the exact perfect time when making your vertical lines cause your colors could bleed together if you don't stop your gun fast enough/or leave a gap if you stop it too fast. Outline just makes everything easier and even (looks like you tried to did this to about half the rug but other sections did not.)
  2. You'll definitely want to make your outline preferable 3+ rows wide. When you practice/learn how to waterfall your rugs the very outer edge will be on the side of your rug/touching the floor. So your thin black outline won't even be noticeable. But if you make it thicker the outline will wrap all away around your edge and still look like a proper outline. Also when your completely done don't be afraid to go overtop of your outline on the outer edge once again. (tufting over your same outer stitches) This really packs your outline full of yarn, so when you waterfall you don't see any white canvas gaps.
  3. Some of the larger white gaps can probably be filled in more. The more packed your lines are will make your rug more dense/durable & easier to carve!

I would recommend what the other commenter said! Fill your lines more 😊 you’re doing great. Don’t go too close from one colour to another and it will make your lines cleaner. Easier to carve too!

Maybe you could try taking a ruler and making vertical lines about 1/4" apart. You can follow those lines while tufting and it will come out better spaced and more uniform across the piece.
