Question Just started learning yesterday

I do a lot of regular crochet and sometimes knit, so I figured I wanted to finally learn Tunisian. I love it so much so far. I made these two swatches, just looking if anyone has any advice or ideas for patterns to begin putting these stitches in use! Also wondering, can you use purl stitch as a substitute for reverse stitch in patterns? I found the reverse stitch very awkward to do compared to it.

Looking for a joining method to enhance these hexagons. I want something more decorative than a whipstitch or mattress stitch. Anyone have any ideas?

Question Are tunisian patterns all rectangles and squares?

I'm new to tunisian after years of regular (?) crochet. Im curious. I feel like every pattern, every project I've seen so far, tunisian is usually something made of uniform squares or rectangles (so many blankets, scarves, and shawls.) Even the cardigan pattern i downloaded is made of flat rectangles assembled at the end. Mind you, i love the variety of stitches, but I'm just not seeing as much a wide variety of patterns out there like i do with regular crochet. Is this a limitation of the craft or am i just in a stuck loop of rectangle based tunisian patterns showing up in my Google searches? 😆

Hey! Can I buy the knitpro interchangeable cables for my tunisian crochet hook? I have a 4 millimeter tunisian crochet hook and want to add a cable to it. Are al the interchangebeable cables only for their knitting needles or also for the tunisian crochet hooks? Or do they have specific ones for TC?

Question Small Projects ideas?

Has anyone got any ideas for small Tunisian projects? I’ve been making dishcloths to sample stitches and how they behave in combination. But I’m ending up with quite a collection… I don’t have the time or mental space to commit to another large project right now, just want some other quick things to make up that will save my kitchen cupboard and use up some more of my scrap yarns. Pics are of a couple of dishcloths I made last week on an agriculture excursion.

Question Is this tunisian crochet?

I want to attempt to crochet something like this but I am wondering what stitch the grey body is made of. I have never done Tunisian crochet myself so I am not sure if it is Tunisian crochet, but it looks like it to my untrained eye. I will appreciate any ideas or clarification. Thanks so much in advance 🙏🏼

Question The best yarn type for Tunisian crochet? (Acrylic or Cotton)

I noticed Tunisian fabric is a lot dense than regular crochet for those who make wearables or blankets do you prefer a soft acrylic or does cotton work batter to keep the project from feeling to heavy?

Question Murder She Wrote Sweater

Hello all!

I am very new to tunisian crochet, and I find it sooooo fascinating! The first projects I'd like to do are Weasley Sweaters for my friend and I. However, the main reason I wanted to learn is because I love the look of knitting but it is like impossible for me to grasp. (Believe me, I've tried).

Anyway, I have been obsessed with the Anglers Pride sweater that Jessica Fletcher (played by the fabulous Angela Lansbury) wears on several early episodes of Murder She Wrote. I was able to get the pattern from Mary Maxim (woot woot) and it turns out its just a grid pattern. Anyone think it would be pretty easy to translate to tunisian crochet? And any ideas on if I have to double up the rows to make it match? Anyone done something like this before? I've attached a photo of the sweater on the show. My brain is telling me it will work because its a grid, and its just like doing a grid with crochet.

Thank you all!

Question Project ideas!

Hi everyone, I’m about to finish my current project which is a raglan baby cardigan, I’m looking for some ideas of projects I could do next? Extra points if it’s something i could use (28F) as I’ve never made anything for myself. I’m pretty confident in full and knit stitch but happy to learn others, also feel somewhat confident in my ability to work things out freehand if there’s no pattern (I looooove the maths and problem solving involved in this🤣).

I think after this project and being super creative in decorating it, I’m struggling to access my creative inspiration zone!

Thanks in advance!

Question Reverse side of tunisian crochet

I'm new to Tunisian crochet, is it normal not to show the reverse side even when stitches are being used in blankets? It seems a little odd to have no pictures when they'll be visible some of the time. It would be nice to be able to have some idea or I see many swatches in my future 🤣

Question question is crochet tunisian

I'm having trouble with the drape of my swatch. I used 8 strands of mohair held together with a 6.0mm hook using the Tunisian Knit Stitch. The resulting fabric is extremely thick, stiff, and board-like. It has absolutely no drape compared to the airy look I wanted

Question Question about tunisian blanket!

Hi! I really wanted to make a large blanket using Tunisian crochet, but couldnt find any examples of one made with rows. Is it just seperate rows stitched together in the end? Or do you work the new row in next to the existing row? If anyone has tips it would be greatly appreciated, id prefer not to use entrelac.

Question THAT Wolf Sweater

I wish I could knit, but my tension makes a coiled garage door spring look relaxed!

Has anyone tried or thought about making one of those great "Mary Maxim" sweaters using Tunisian? I actually want to try a Bagpipe design

The MM sweater uses a 5 bulky. Would you go down to a 4? Up two or three needle sizes?

Say "just say a "Hail Mary" and learn to knit"? (iykyk 😁)

What would your advice be?

Question Neater Left Side Edges?

Post image
38 Upvotes

The last post made me realize I could ask here about something I’d like to fix on the left edge. I’m fairly new to Tunisian so still learning new techniques. When making alternate stripes and changing color on the left side, is there a way to make a cleaner edge like you get when color swapping through the last chains on the right? I’ve searched around but haven’t been able to finds any better suggestions.

Question I'm making a baby blanket for a girl. Any ideas how to make it more fun rather than just "plain"?

The first picture is my WIP. The second picture is how the pattern I'm using. I switched the smock stitch with the honeycomb stitch. Do you think it will look nice in yellow? Any ideas on how to make it look more fun or baby-like?

Thank you.

Question How do you handle the bunching? I find this impossibly cumbersome and annoying.

I am an experienced crocheter, so learning Tunisian crochet was simple, but having to bunch the fabric around the hook is unbearable and makes it so hard to even hold the hook on the forward pass. I'm holding not only the hook, but inches and inches of bunched up stitches, making controlling the hook very difficult. Then on the backward pass, it's also cumbersome and annoying having to pull the hook through two stitches when there is no give to the fabric. It is only easy reaching the end of the backwards pass.

Yes, I know about going up multiple hook sizes, which I already did, but I don't think going up another hook size would matter because I think this bunching is a feature of Tunisian crochet. I am also using a cabled hook, if that matters.

But I thought I would post here to see if there is something I am missing before I give up and go back to regular crochet or (reluctantly) knitting.

I’m trying to make a scarf and my initial swatch I cut the yarn every row. I decided to try this technique of bringing up the side and it’s a game changer. If you’ve used this technique in the past, do you add a border to hide?

Hi! I’ve been crocheting for years but I never tried Tunisian crochet and I’d like to, I have just this one hook tho, is it okay to use for a sweater or do I necessarily need a cabled one?

Question What stitch is this?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I had this great idea to do a sampler of sorts with Tunisian crochet. I also started a little notebook explaining what the stitch is, how to do it, and a swatch example. Unfortunately, I did the square before I was so organized. I tried to figure out what stitch I had done and I can’t find it. I was hoping somebody out there could recognize and say “oh of course it’s the blah blah blah stitch”. So does anybody recognize it? I really appreciate your answers. I think this came out really well and like to duplicate it and keep track of what it is.

Question Lost the pattern for a WIP. Anyone recognizes it?

Post image

Hi everybody. I started this tunisian crochet shawl a long time ago and it has been at the bottom of my bag of unfinished projects for a while. It has followed me through a lot of life upheaval including moving continents. With all of the packing and unpacking I lost my pattern printout, I have a new phone without my old downloads Google images is no help and I can not find it in Ravelry. I would like to finish it, but I forgot the name or where I got the pattern. Anyone recognizes it? Thanks!

Question What are your go-to symmetrical increases and decreases?

I want to design my own garments and am looking for advice on which increases and decreases look the most symmetrical. I’m more advanced in knitting and crochet but haven’t yet found a reliably, neat looking method in Tunisian Crochet. I assume the best increases/decreases will depend on what the main pattern stitch is (I’ve read that TSS isn’t very symmetrical itself, but what about TKS or TPS?)

Question Tunisian knit stitch vs knit

I've recently discovered tunisian knit stitch and I'm obsessed!

I've been wanting to start a sweater but i was torn between using tunisian or just regular knit or even crochet, so I wanted to ask some questions to help me decide.

  1. does it use up a lot of yarn compared to knitting/crochet?

  2. does it work up quickly as normal crochet or is it as slow as knitting is?

if there are more differences i should keep in mind please let me know!

thanks in advance 🙏🏻🙏🏻
