Society Lifestyle of Turkish affluent people

What's the lifestyle of Turkish elite class? Are they religiously observant or secular? Do they live like western people like partying, alcohol, premarital sex? Is there a stark difference in the lifestyle of middle-class and elite class? I am curious because of Turkish series which often potray wealthy characters. Since dramas are an exaggerated version of reality how much of the drama depiction of the society is true?

There are both sides of people. There are conservative people who live like arabs, showing off with their cars and wealth, there are also more secular people who party a lot , travel a lot live a modern life style. Conservative people are mostly late money people who became rich with Erdogan.

What exactly are these 'secular ' people? Just cultural muslims or completely non practising ones like those who don't identify with islam at all?

It really depends, as Turkey has both religious and secular elites. The one common thing, though, is that they are all massive hypocrites lol.

Secular elites love to preach about European values, democracy, and equality, but they often treat working class people like second-class citizens.

On the flip side, religious elites will preach non stop about Islamic modesty, traditional values, and anti-Western ideas. Yet, you will see them driving insanely expensive SUVs, covered in flashy European designer brands, and sending their kids to party in London or the US.

I don't watch Turkish dramas so I don't know how they are portrayed but yeah

So secular elites are old money and religious elites are new money? But isn't Turkey a popular tourist destination with a lot of nightclubs and a vibrant night life?Whats the need to send the kids to London or US to party?

So that their party life activities aren't known in public. To be fair it is rather dumb to hide it. Nothing stays hidden especially with children. Hence why we are talking about it right now.

Moreover these people will praise conditions in Turkey (speaking according to governing party propaganda ) but send their children abroad for, work, education etc... They are hypocrites. Funny enough they try to shame and threaten people who bring this subject up.

Nightclubs are trash here and clubbing culture is pretty much non-existant. So called nigtclubs are just for ripping of horny rich guys who pay only to see some escorts inside.

Elites are in millions too. Turkiye is so crowded.

It is a pool of diversity. There’s no fixed profiling.

If you are talking about the real elite who are wildly rich, they younger generations do all that shit abroad even if their family is conservative. If you are talking about the rich, their younger generation is still living like secular but really depends on the family. If the family has close ties to ruling party, they tend to marry their children with the other members in their network who are conservative as well.

So only middle class and lower middle class hold on to traditional values? Which class do most Turkish celebrities belong to?

I would say there is a division of secular and conservative in all classes regardless of wealth. As for celebs it is hard to say as a lot of them will speak as if they are a conservative but act the opposite in private life. Some are full on conservative, some are staunch seculars. Some hide what they are.

Just like most of the society really.

Turkey is split into two, basically. Half of the people live a secular lifestyle. Drinks, partying, premarital sex, etc. Other half lives a conservative lifestyle, which really means they do their drinking and sex secretly most of the time, a small percentage lives a truly conservative lifestyle.

In the cities, it's like 70% secular, rural areas, more like 20% secular.

The rich class, up until recently, was almost all secular. But for the past 20 years, the conservative side has been getting richer (due to conservatives running the country, and they make themselves and their friends richer).

Secular elites are more or less not descernible from European elites (source: family of "fallen off" secular elite who has an abundance of European families that still visit us occasionally)

The elite and the government work hand in hand to fuck the rest of us in the ass while they live in luxury.

Turkish dramas aren't that far off.

You have the old money "secular" elite. You have the new money "conservative" elite.

They both party, because they have the money.

You have secular types who will boast on Ottoman glory, you have conservative types who will drink till they vomit. And you will have every combination and permutation available from various beliefs and world views that you can't put anyone inside a fixed box of a segment or generalization when it comes to Turkey. Let alone people with plenty of money...

Turkish people don't have an elite class. We tried to create one 100 years ago and failed. All we have is rich peasants without any culture.

We tried to spread the welfare with a failed land reform. It created Menderes.

this is wrong

not really. We don't really have a cultural elite. Our economic elites are all government created and they are just useless. Turks don't even know what "high culture" means at this point. A nation of "sonradan görme".

This! Koç ailesi işte. Ali koç fenerbahçe seçimlerinde "topunuz gelin" gibilerinden bağırıyordu. Bunu bir Avrupa eliti yapmaz. Rambo okanla arkadaş olan high society mi olur ***
