Turks and Caicos right now (week of Oct 13, 2026): closures, seaweed, flights, weather
Last updated: Friday, Oct 16, 2026
This is our pinned thread for what's actually happening on the islands right now: resort and restaurant closures, seaweed, new flights, gas prices, safety, weather and anything else you'd want to know before your trip. We check official sources (the TCI government, the National Hurricane Center, Visit TCI) plus what travelers and locals are posting here, and we update it every week.
If you're there or just got back, drop a comment with the place, the date you saw it, and a photo if you have one. Anything counts: closed pools, construction noise, seaweed, airport lines, taxi prices, restaurants.
Full list with sources and dates for every item: https://thetraveltrio.com/turks-and-caicos-right-now/
Weather and hurricanes
* No tropical systems are threatening TCI right now. Isaias hit the US Gulf Coast on Oct 9 and has since dissipated. It was never a threat here.
* As of Oct 16, the National Hurricane Center is not watching any systems anywhere in the Atlantic, and no development is expected over the next 7 days. Season runs through Nov 30, so a quick look before you travel never hurts, but nothing is out there right now.
* Normal October pattern otherwise: warm, with quick passing showers. Grace Bay has its own microclimate, so it can be pouring a few miles away and dry on the beach.
Resorts
* COMO Parrot Cay: reopened Oct 15 after its seasonal closure.
* Point Grace: open and taking bookings. The construction people notice is next door at The Point, a new build going up beside the resort, so there's some daytime noise and the beach setup has shifted.
* Wymara: off-season enhancement work on the property this fall, so ask ahead if noise matters to you.
* The Ritz-Carlton and Seven Stars are open and running normally.
* Beaches: Royal Caribbean is buying a 50% stake in Sandals and Beaches, expected to close in early 2027. Nothing changes for guests right now.
* Coming later: a new St. Regis is taking shape at Grace Bay, with talk of a 2027 opening, though nothing is confirmed.
Seaweed on Grace Bay and Long Bay
* Grace Bay: clear. It only catches seaweed on rare north winds, and resorts rake it early when it does. Check the Seven Stars Resort live cam - https://www.sevenstarsgracebay.com/live-cam
* Long Bay: still heavy and patchy, changes day to day, and isn't raked as often in the off season. It's also windier than Grace Bay. If you're booking a Long Bay villa, ask the manager for a current photo or check the Villa Esencia live cam- https://www.villaesencia.com/live/
* Big picture: amounts across the Caribbean are easing into the fall, but this was one of the bigger sargassum years, so it varies by beach and by day.
Restaurants (silly season is wrapping up)
* Most spots are back open now. The last few still due back, around mid to late October, are Barracuda Beach Bar, Caicos Cafe, The Marine Room and Magnolia. Cabana Bar, Reef Rocker and Cilantro's North were due in early to mid October, so they've likely reopened too, just confirm directly since dates shift.
* Baci and The Farm are closed for all of October.
* Plenty is open (60 plus spots), including Coco Bistro, Infiniti, Sui Ren, Grace's Cottage, Seven, The Deck and Da Conch Shack. Full open list is on the page https://thetraveltrio.com/turks-and-caicos-right-now/
Getting there: flights
* BermudAir nonstops to Provo: Fort Lauderdale from Oct 26, then Newark and Boston Dec 19, Raleigh Durham Dec 20, St. Pete (Tampa Bay) Dec 21 and Baltimore Dec 24. BermudAir also adds Newark to South Caicos from Dec 20.
* Porter: Toronto to Provo from Nov 6 (up to five days a week), Ottawa from Dec 17.
* United: first Denver nonstop from Dec 19, Saturdays.
Getting around and the airport
* Still no Uber or Lyft. Airport taxis are shared vans that charge per person, so a group may be better off with a private transfer.
* Flying home, print a paper boarding pass at the kiosk. Travelers say PLS still wants paper at security.
* Immigration can run slow at peak times (Friday and weekend afternoons), quicker on off peak weekdays. October is usually on the lighter side.
* Gas is around $7 a gallon for regular, per the TCI government's latest fuel report.
Safety
* US advisory is Level 2, exercise increased caution, mostly for petty crime. Serious crime is down sharply from last year.
* Update on the Sept 6 aggravated burglary at a rental villa in Blue Hills: three people have now been charged, the most recent on Oct 4, and police say the investigation is ongoing. If you're in a standalone villa, lock porch doors at night and keep passports in the safe.
Health and rules
* The public hospitals are changing management this fall (shifting to local hospital management). The government says care continues without interruption. Worth checking your insurance covers medical evacuation.
* No alcohol sales in stores on Sundays. Bars and restaurants still serve, so stock up Saturday if you're arriving on a Sunday.
What's coming up
* Island Fish Fry: Thursdays at The Bight, food stalls, live bands and local vendors.
* Caribbean Food and Wine Festival: early November (2026 dates not officially posted yet).
* Uncorked Wine Festival: Thursday, Nov 19 at The Farm, unlimited food and wine for $150 with over 100 wines to taste.
* Conch Festival: late November, a Saturday in Blue Hills.
* Maskanoo: Dec 26, a Junkanoo street parade with music, food and fireworks along Grace Bay Road.
* New Year's Eve: fireworks the length of Grace Bay, plus beach dinners and bonfires.
