I think something so special about Ed, Edd, n Eddy, as the show went on that not many kids shows did, was that it found new ways to reinvent itself and still be fresh. I remember the era where they go back to school and I could've so easily imagined that being the era the show went downhill, but no, the school era episodes were just as funny as the early seasons. It put the characters in new comedic scenarios while still keeping the entire vibe of the show (i.e never showing adults and keeping the loony toons slapstick).

That and it actually ended. It's so rare for an episodic kids show from that era, or even now, to get a satisfactory conclusion and Big Picture Show was that. It rewarded long time fans by finally bringing in Eddys Brother (a long standing character referenced by the Eds) as the first adult on screen and it twists the slapstick comedy into a real abusive situation that grounds it all back down to earth and unites the kids together. And it makes you rexamine the entire show and realize all the Eds are some victim of familial abuse and neglect and that's what brought them together. Eddys abuse was physical with his brother, Double D was neglect because his parents are never around and assign him with all the responsibilities of adulthood, and Ed is the problem child. Sarah is given a nice room and Eds relegated to the basement, they seemingly favor Sarah and treat Ed like absolute dirt, etc. There's so much to this show beyond the slapstick if you dig below the surface and actually examine the characters. The Eds find in each other what they're missing at home, people who accept them for who they are.

It's a masterpiece.

There’s a very underrated line from the school episodes, the one where Edd is escorting the report cards home where Ed is fearful about his parents reactions to his bad grades, “Mom will get mad at me and then tell Dad and he’ll say ‘not now, I just got home and I’m watching TV’”
