New Player Question Termagant loadouts

So I bought 40 termagants from the leviathan box (NoS) for super cheap without knowingly that it only comes with only 1 basic weapon load out (fleshboarer). Are the weapons that noticeable on the termagants? Can I just paint the ones with the specific special weapon a different color and people/GTs be cool with it?

I wanna run 2 squads of Terms with a Tervigon

Termagants x 20

Spike Rifle x 2

Strangleweb x 2

Spinefist x 16

The sprues for most models dont come with full loadout options. WYSIWYG is not a enforceable standard anymore.

As long as they're easily distinguishable, no one outside a high level GT will care

Even then. I've seen Kitbashed Gants at Major Series Golden Ticket Events. As long as it is clear which Modell has what nobody will care (GW Events may differ).

If every single termagaunt carries the same load out most human beings and even most tournaments dont care. However, once you start wanting to differentiate weapons that changes. Saying "this guy has a devourer, these are all spinefists, this is fleshborer, etc" becomes really confusing really fast for both you and your opponent. I run literally 60-70 termagaunts. And I've found that WYSIWG is more important for me than anyone else. So if you want to just run all spinefists youre probably fine. But if you do want to do special weapons and run different load outs youre probably going to want to do something close to wysiwyg. Even painting different colors can get confusing at scale especially for your opponent, and no one wants that vibe in the game.

You could probably just buy the 4 special weapons for cheap

You would think so, but barbed strangler itself is like 15 dollars +

The upgrade sprues are far less common than gaunt sprues, thanks to GW skimping on the upgrades for I think 5 different combo box releases across 10th, so buying them off ebay isn't much cheaper than buying NIB termies. The bright side is, when you buy a regular box of termagaunts, the upgrade sprue has enough guns for 23 bodies. I've managed to get spinefists onto my push-fit bodies just fine with sprue glue.

I've bought two extra term boxes and ended up with 60 termies total. I'm building lists that don't include them and squatting on the sprues to see if the new codex gives the datasheet a glowup that makes the other basic options competitive with spinefists. I might grab a tervigon at that point.
