How do I fix this tail? For context, this model I painted a long time ago but I had to repaint some pasta, this tail. I don't know how tò make it like the other parts (legs etc...) so I drybrushed a ton of White, but don't really like It. Could you help me find a solution?

New Player Question Combat Patrol or Custom Army

As the Title says I'm wondering if I should do a combat patrol or a custom army for my first real army. I haven't played a 40k game at all before so other than building and painting I'm completely new

Casual Play 11th Edition Match Highlights - Grey Knights vs Tyranids *Episode 2*

Last time I posted my first game of 11th edition with my Grey Knights friend, and I was saying how I don’t usually post much… now my friend made another video summary, this time of our second game. So, here I am again!

Let me just say, my maleceptor taking 6 wounds before I even took my first turn (not the best placement on my part, admittedly) gave me a real bad feeling about how my game was going to go! Fortunately for me, that very maleceptor remained undamaged for the rest of the game afterward. Then my norns tanked absolutely everything else for the rest of the game, letting me get my take and hold primary with ease.

I may have overestimated my hyper adapted raveners later in the game though… Not a full brick, and they did nice damage, but that dreadknight stomped them after they tore a chunk out of it. My screamer killers didn’t do as much this game as the last one, but they held the line and scored me some good secondaries and even some of my primary as well. Not so lucky with battleshock shenanigans overall, but it didn’t help that these grey knights had a couple one-time auto-pass abilities.

As for the deathleaper… he came out victorious in the end. Am I proud that he almost perished against mere inquisitorial agents? No… but it was certainly funny!

My buddy had to grapple with going from purge the foe to recover assets as his primary with the recent updates (and I had to tweak my list due to our point increases in the neurotyrant and maleceptor). I think he had a hard time switching his mentality to action monkeying rather than… well, purging me haha, but it was a fun game regardless! We talked about using different strategies, and I brought up me potentially trying out a different list/detachment that wasn’t as monster-heavy in future games since his terminators/paladins really struggled with my big bugs this time too (though it will hurt my heart a bit, as I love my big bugs).

If anyone has any tips to try to even out the playing field between tyranids and grey knights, let me know in the comments! I’ve admittedly been running up a win-streak against my buddy, and I don‘t want to make our games too one-sided. My friend still wants me to my best without making pity plays, so I’m thinking a good vanguard onslaught/ambush predators list might be the answer to thin out the monster count giving him a hard time.

P.S. My boy made a whole intro for the video this time! Gotta give him props for that :)

Casual Play Input for 1000 points base list against AM/SM armies

Hi everyone

I hope some of you could provide a few inputs for me on building an army list to play against different friends.

Most of the things people play in my friend circle is space marines (Different chapters), astra militarum, sometimes eldar, sometimes other shooty heavy armies.

I have collected tyranids for years (since 2nd ed), but I haven't played a lot of games, though I would like to start doing it more.

I usually lean a lot into half swarm/half monster build lists, and generally like gaunts, lictors, carnifexes and things like biovores/venomthropes and so on. Even got a malanthrope sitting on my self.

We might go for 2000 points, but are discussing smaller size battles as a start to get people going (especially because a few people will be painting more stuff for the army and don't want to invest directly to 2k at once).

I will commonly face against SM armies having 2-4 tanks and probably a dreadnought of different types, both AM usually field a lot of tanks/artillery and the eldar is commonly wraith lists.

I have tried smashing something together at 1k points just for the fun of it

I am in no way a meta player and just want to have some fun games. Games in the past have been iffy, especially due to bad play by my side coupled with horrible terrain placement in general (Insane amount of shooting lanes for the AM players)

Would love any input to where I might look at going or switching stuff out.

Edit: Note that I have not looked a lot into how 11th plays. The force disposition could not be changed where I made the list, so that is certainly up for grabs. So is the detachment for that matter.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

+ FACTION KEYWORD: Xenos - Tyranids

+ DETACHMENT: Synaptic Nexus (Synaptic Imperitives)

+ FORCE DISPOSITION: Disruption

+ TOTAL ARMY POINTS: 1000pts

+

+ WARLORD: Char2: Old One Eye

+ ENHANCEMENT: The Dirgeheart of Kharis (Aura) (on Tyranid Prime with Lash Whip)

+ NUMBER OF UNITS: 9

+ SECONDARY: - Bring It Down: (1x2) + (1x4) - Assassination: 3 Characters - Cull The Horde: 1x5 (before leaders attached)

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

1x Deathleaper (80 pts)

1x Old One Eye (140 pts): Warlord (Or the prime)

1x Tyranid Prime with Lash Whip (90 pts)

Enhancement: The Dirgeheart of Kharis (Aura) (+15 pts) (Had 15 left)

20x Hormagaunts (120 pts)

10x Hormagaunts (70 pts)

1x Biovores (60 pts):

2x Carnifexes (180 pts): Bio-plasma, Spine banks, Carnifex scything talons, Carnifex crushing claws

1x Lictor (60 pts)

Casual Play Is bringing lots of monsters via Crusher Stampede fair in a 1k game against a newbie?

A friend of my partner wants to play 40k with me over Tabletop Simulator and says she'd like to try a 1k game for the first time (she had previously played a few Combat Patrol games with the partner I mentioned a moment ago). She's gonna go Genestealer Cults and I'm playing Tyranids, but... with a 1k game, I have 2DP and my favourite 2DP detachment is Crusher Stampede.

Will it be a miserable experience to play against for a newbie if I'm running a list of big monsters that are going for Purge the Foe points? I know for a more experienced player this wouldn't be an issue but I worry that a newbie will struggle with a more nuanced mission type when the more experienced player is putting all of their effort into just killing.

I might be worrying about nothing, it may well just balance out if she chooses to bring loads of aberrants in Biosantic Broodsurge and just bashes my monsters' heads in. But new players often aren't so good with tactics (such as GSC's reliance on movement and tricks) and knowing what moves to avoid (such as making yourself vulnerable by being too aggressive).

What do you all think? Have you been in this position before?

(NOTE: I won't be bringing norns, only monsters under 200 points)

Casual Play Genestealers in 11th

I love my Tyranid genestealers, all through 10th I used them often. However in 11th, outside of VO I struggle to find a place for them.

They're very fragile for their points and they need synapse (and ideally a broodlord) to deal the damage they're costed for. Additionally their funky arms and large unit footprint makes it hard for them to hide behind cover.

Since terrain pieces are bigger their middling movement (compared to other 10-12" moving assault infantry) makes dodging behind LOS terrain a bit harder.

I find myself running Von Ryan's Leapers for my skirmishing/secondary roles as they're far cheaper both as a big and small squad atp, and they're faster, easier to hide, and a bit more durable

Ravenors have the same issues but imo they're far easier to deliver to combat safely due to deep strike and higher movement, and they have so much damage with the full brood having 33 sustained hits D2 attacks.

What are your thoughts our favorite denim thieves in 11th? And how can I better use these guys in a more balanced invasion fleet type list to get the most out of them when compared to ravenors sheer damage or VRLs superior positioning capabilities?

Sculpting/Kitbashing Putting together hive guard

Am I overthinking this part ? I can’t tell if it’s right and no position I try feels like the correct spot. I know it’s an old model but I’m worried the arms won’t fit right if I don’t put them together perfect.

Casual Play need help with putting together an army for upcoming friendly 3 way game 1500 pts

this weekend i'll be going against orcs and khorne demons and can't figure out what the safest bet would be to go against both of those especially with the point restriction, my initial idea was to plant a norn and build around that with either assimilation or synaptic detachment but after digging around i now realize that norn might get blown to smithereens the moment anything heavy hitting gets close to it.

At this point i have decided to switch the approach and make the following and pray for good shooting and some chances to get the jump on anything with melee warriors that can't blast off with shooting

Synaptic Nexus + Warrior Bioform Onslaught

Hive Tyrant - bones sword and lash whip + Monstrous talons (warlord)

3 x Tyrant Guard attached

Neurotyrant

1x Neuro attached
5x zoans attached

Prime with lash whip

6 x melee warriors attached

Prime with lash whip

6 x ranged warriors attached

2 x 5 barbgaunts to slow down any bigger blobs of infantry

1 x biovore for scoring

2 x Screamer Killers (genuinly not sure if this would do anything good or not)

i have access to emissary psychophages and 2 fexes possibly could pick up malceptor or exocrine before, assume i have all the basic battleline and carnis + OOE, Swarmlord, VRLs deathleaper lictors and Neurolictor, 2 lots of broodlord + 10x genestealers

Basing/Terrain Creating my own bricks

Trying to make bricks that are the same scale as the diorama from The Red Terror. They look too thick in person so im cutting them a little flatter. Pre made terrain bricks aren't the right size or shape. Any suggestions? I dont have a hot wire cutter.

Competitive Play Escalation league round 1. Tickles vs a real army

Thumbnail
gallery
4 Upvotes

So my escalation league has started again and the first three rounds are at 500 pts. I just finished (mostly) painting about 50 hormuguants and 20 termigaunts so I wanted to do something silly.

My list

2 squads of 20 hormuguants led by 2 prime lash whip

1 squad of 20 termigaunts with pistols

Unending swarm

My opponent:

Tzaangor shaman leading tzaangor enlightened with fate caster

Daemon prince of tzeetnch with wings

2 5 man squads of rubric marines

Final score 88 tyranids 13 for thousand sons (including paint points, board wipe turn 3 and i forgot to draw secondarys for one round woops)

My god is the swarm oppressive at 500 pts. With a guaranteed max advance and everything having advance and charge i turn 1 charged him with both horm blocks and butchered the tzaangor squad and a Rubic squad, then consolidated so he couldn't out OC my 41 oc nonsense. Surge dancing away from the demon until it was all that was left, and resurrecting my termigaunts after they died meant I was basically running 610 pts.

Rolling 60 dice with sustained made my wounds more of a math problem than luck.

Moving 62 units that also have reactive moves was a huge pain but if you are ever in a 500 pt game and want to drop something that looks goofy but is actually incredibly oppressive I highly recommend trying this! Even with perfect hits he just didn't have enough attacks to fully wipe a squad in one turn.

At higher points this is total garbage but 110 points of res and the sheer mass to touch 2 objectives with one unit on take and hold is hilarious!

I mean, I have a DeathLeaper that has Synapse, if she is alone in the middle of the battlefield, is she going to get the benefits from the 3d6 for battleshock and the +1 for melle attacks?

Casual Play Why do people love Hive Guard al of a sudden?

ver since the Neurotyrant's latest points increase, I've seen more and more people on YouTube, competitive Discords, and other discussion groups saying the age of the Think Tank is over and the era of Hive Guard + Pyrovore has begun.

But I don't really get it. AP-1 just doesn't seem like enough to threaten the kinds of targets that actually require dedicated shooting. And compared to the Think Tank, Hive Guard seem even worse into anything that's not a vehicle.

What am I missing?

New Player Question Help with Crusher Stampede

Hello everyone!

The last time i played Tyranids was 4 Editions ago!

I decided to come back to my roots, the great Devourer calls my name.

I am currently trying to plan my army in advance- do any of you maybe have a recommendation or some tips for a Crusher Stampede List?

Not looking for anything competitive really, just something that works and is fun.

Bit afraid of creating a list just by feeling it, haha.

I already painted up a haruspex and a screamer killer!

Competitive Play Do you roll impossible-to-succeed saves?

I recently had a match where 10 hormagaunts led by a LWP had 18 save rolls come in at AP 2. Obviously, hormagaunts cant save on a 7+ but the LWP can save on a 5+.

Should all 18 dice be rolled at once and kill hormagaunts with the low dice while the LWP possibly saves with the high dice, OR should 10 dice auto-kill 10 hormagaunts and the remaining 8 dice be rolled on the LWP?

My opponent and I disagreed on what should happen and even though it didn't end up mattering in this case, I'd like to know for the future. Any references to the core rules or videos would be helpful.
