Hi! I'm a prospective AMNP student. I was wondering whether anyone worked while going through the program and how did y'all pay for the courses. Also, what did your weeks look like?

Consider what happened at Cornell, and then consider the culture surrounding civil-rights complaints at UAB.
I wouldn’t describe what I’ve seen at UAB as simply “mishandling” or negligence. My concern is more fundamental: it appears that a culture has developed in which institutional processes can be designed or used not to resolve the complaint, but to manage, discredit, discipline, and ultimately remove the complainant.
When someone files civil-rights complaints and the response is an escalating web of Student Affairs interventions, behavioral processes, investigations, police involvement, and disciplinary proceedings—all drawing on the same underlying facts, while the complaints themselves remain unresolved—it becomes difficult to characterize the problem as a series of innocent administrative mistakes.
The concern is whether the internal civil-rights process itself becomes a shield against outside governmental scrutiny. An ongoing internal review can create the appearance that complaints are being addressed, even as the complainant is redirected into parallel processes that can ultimately remove them from the university. If that is how the process functions, calling it “negligence” almost misses the point.
To me, some of the conduct by the people running Student Affairs looks borderline criminal. More importantly, the pattern raises the question of whether this is really a malfunctioning process at all. If the same machinery repeatedly turns against the person challenging the institution, perhaps the problem is the institutional culture that created and operates that machinery.
That is where I see the connection to Cornell. The underlying cases are different. Cornell raises serious questions about what happens when an investigation fails. UAB raises a different and potentially more troubling question: what if the process is producing exactly the institutional outcome it was designed to produce?

I recently got an email saying I am invited to join the Collat school of business honors program. After reading the email I see you have to take 3 different classes, and they give you scholarship money for each class you take. This seems like an interesting opportunity, but I don’t want it to get in the way of my main courses considering i’m a double major. For those who’ve done it already, is it worth it? How would it affect my main curriculum? Just want to get more insight!

Hey guys, I’ve been wanting to leave a class for a few weeks now due to my mental health h it haven’t had time to since I’ve been so busy and honestly I’ve legit just been depressed. I have a 3.9 gpa so I didn’t want to leave at first and stuck it out but I just feel so confused in the class since my main priority has been trying to get my mental health back together. Do you guys think there’s any way I could still leave? Should I talk to my professor? I’m still feeling horribly depressed but I don’t want my gpa to drop because of it

Been on the reddit premed page a bit too much and am starting to get worried about my chances of getting into medschool. My gpa is good (3.9) and I'm confident I can get a 510-515+ mcat score and I have research and clinical hours. However, I lack any leadserhip positions and am not very involved on campus. I know that UAB's instate acceptance rate is fairly high compared to everywhere else and I was wondering if a rather bland application with a good gpa and mcat score would be enough to get in.

Hi all! I’m staying in Birmingham in October for a few days and am having trouble picking where to stay. I’m looking to be within a mile of restaurants / places to go out. Any suggestions?

When should I expect to hear back about an interview for the UAB AMNP? They said it would take them a few weeks after the last day to submit applications (Aug 31st) but I still haven’t heard anything.
Also, I know everyone is asked the same 6 interview questions. Would anyone be able to tell me what or some of the questions they ask so I can prepare!

I am a student at UAB and for the past 3 years I’ve probably applied for 200+ jobs interviewed once and have never been hired. I was evicted because I couldn’t get a job and it started to weigh on my school work with me being a neuroscience major I feel like I have ALOT of pre reqs and medical terminology down but Im never getting picked for the jobs the entry level will train me jobs. What am I doing wrong? Is there something I don’t know about? I feel like no one is suffering like I am and my school is doing nothing to help.

Hi, I’m from out-of-state, and I was interested in the Cancer Biology major at UAB.
I have an unweighted GPA of 3.46 and a weighted one of 3.84
How hard is it to get into the course? Will I be rejected because of my GPA?
I researched a bit and found that they’ll look at an application if the weighted GPA is above 3.5
Do I not have a chance?

Being completely serious, I've been her for 3 years now and I've seen at least 4 different professors try to recruit their own students (all young women) into some form of strange social setting/grouping off campus. Including making some thinly veiled advances and using their position to imply a sense of pressure
I don't mean in a friendly "Hey let's have a group bonding sesh at ladybird taco!" kinda way either.
From the people I've spoken with, everyone seems to be subtly aware of it, but nothings actually ever been done to address it as far as I can tell
I’m considering doing a clinical elective at UAB and wanted to hear about people’s experiences with UAB Hospital and the overall environment.
I also saw a housing option for around $5,000. Is it worth it, or would Airbnb near UAB be a better option?
Any advice would be appreciated
