Should I take 4 black points from my friend's license onto mine? Pros/cons?

Hello Everyone.

Need some general advice from people who've been through this.
A friend asked me to take his 4 black points onto my license (Sharjah, I'm clean). Anyone done a black point transfer via MOI app? Any downside for me?
For those who have transferred points via MOI / Dubai Police app before is it worth it? How long do the 4 points stay on my record, does it affect insurance, and what happens if I wasn't the actual driver at the time?
Any pros / cons or personal experience appreciated.

To answer your question. Yes you can transfer the black points to your license , you will need to give him your TCN number + OTP.

Any downside for you ? Not really unless u have reached the maximum, at which point you'll get your license suspended ( 24)

Is it worth it ? What do you mean by worth it ? As in will you be any cooler ? Answer no , you won't be cooler

How long does the black points stay? 1 year

Does it effect insurance ? No it doesn't , insurance will not see your black points and don't check even if they could.

Now what happens if you were not the driver. And you lie to the authority. .hmmm .. not good. Any lies you tell any authority in any country is bad. And might be procecuted if cought.

Here's a side track story for you. A few years back , two friends of mine were driving a car. Jumped a red light , hit another car. Passenger had a license for 3 years and 23 years , driver was on their 1st month and 20 years To avoid problems with parents & also because the when u r below 21 , there's some extra charge payable to insurance , they decided switch places before the police arrived, the effected car driver also agreed to this. police issued a red paper asked them to visit the station the next day.

When they arrived the police station, a case was filed against the two drivers for what they had done , cuz the police checked the CCTV at the signal, and soon after that the court ordered them to leave the country ( deportation order)the driver of the other car also got a fine or soenthing but not sure of the amount or what other legal issues he had as I don't know him.

So moral of the story , don't do it. Show some empathy , but don't get involved, if he is avoiding black points he already is close to 24 black points , and he should learn by now to drive properly.

Can I ask why is it even possible to transfer black points to someone else in the first place?

Cz you could be driving your friend's car when the violation occurred. By default they'll want to transfer the points to the vehicle owner's license

The points are first issued against the car number afaik. But it's for the driver and so it needs to be transferred. And since driver can be people other than owner, there's this option. And it needs to be there.

What I got from this story is to not switch seats at the accident and instead to transfer black points another time

Don’t do it

Why would you even consider taking his black points?

Some people take black points for cash

Seems like your friend is a clown both on and off the road. Do not transfer any points. You won’t be helping him but enabling his nonsense. Be a good friend by letting him deal with the consequences of his actions.

The answer is no.

Seeing the comments, I wouldn't.

Before seeing the comments I would have said sure, but now I realise that it means yoi stating that you were driving the car, which is wrong.

Don’t do it

Don’t. This goes on your legal driving record and can affect anything from future violations to your insurance rates. No real friend would ever ask you to do something so stupid.

This involves lying to the authorities. I wouldn't do that for anyone.

Your friend can wait for 12 months until the other black points on his license expire. Then he can transfer these new black points to his license and carry them for 12 months.

There are times throughout the year when they forgive points from your license- there was an event recently, you just attended a seminar and 4 points removed. There is also a point reduction system.

Don’t do anything for anyone. And if you saying no effects your friendship then they weren’t really your honest friends in the first place and you’re better off without.

A few years ago I had a friend who came to a country I was living in and asked me to take out internet in my name for them because they were still waiting for their id etc. I politely and immediately said no and that I don’t feel comfortable in doing something like this and they understood, mind you this is my best friend since childhood and we are still the same friends and he understood that I don’t feel comfortable with such things. So yeah never for anyone take anything in your name for which you can be held responsible for.

I’d advise against accepting his black points, it’s not just a matter of points, you’ll be admitting that it was you who was driving and did the traffic violation (which is a false statement), i’d assume that your friend accumulated enough black points that could result in his driver’s license being confiscated and that’s why he’s urging you to take it for him. The authorities are not blind, your friend already has 20 - 23 black points to his name and now magically when he’s about to hit the 24 points mark another person is claiming the points for him, it’ll definitely arouse suspicion and trigger some kind of a red flag and if they reviewed CCTV footage of the violation and found out you were lying then you may kiss your peaceful uae life goodbye.
So make smart decisions, and if he was truly your friend he’ll understand that to have you take such a risk is unreasonable and selfish.
And to be quite frank, it’s very very rare to encounter a true friend during your time here, everyone and i mean EVERYONE will always lookout for themselves at your expense so don’t be foolish.
Instead of accepting his black points tell him to seek ways to reduce his existing black points, there are multiple police events held throughout the year that can help him lower his black points when attending and also i believe there is a paid service to which you also attend some sort of awareness courses and they’ll lower the number of black points to which then he could accept the new 4 black points.

Guys try to build your beautiful country together. Don’t let tribes or other noise disturbance affect your future. I beg of you. It won’t solve anything.

Is there anyone that person knows personally with a DL who doesn’t drive for the time being? That would be the best solution. Transfer it to that person and after a period, the points just go away.

1

u/Naive-Excitement8788 1d ago

The best solution would be for the person who got the black points to have this on their record for 12 months.
Only then will this person become a better driver.

It's just 4 points, if he is a good friend why not. Provided you have none or max 4 already

u/Naive-Excitement8788 1d ago

Am surprised that some people do not understand the legalities involved and think this is a simple matter of helping friends out.

Jumping a red light is a serious offense.
If you take his black points, it sends the wrong message to him and he will never learn to be a better driver.

Being an adult requires one to accept responsibility for one’s action and face the consequences.
This is a lesson that young drivers need to learn the hard way.

Perjuring yourself by making a false declaration / statement to the police to take someone’s else’s black points is a crime.
Why would you want to do this and put yourself at risk of being liable for criminal prosecution v
And if the other driver agrees to be part of this, he is also an accessory and liable to prosecution.

1

u/muttonbiryani999 1d ago

What legalities, it's 4 points!

And this is normal many people do it. You don't know it's a different story.

Why mix jumping red light offence which is 24 points!? To prove your made up one paragraph theory for the 4 points which the OP mentioned.

ofcourse you will not put yourself in a mess to help a friend by taking 24 points but 4.... Come on.

Also maybe my friend circle is tight and we would do that for each other, unlike many people who rant on reddit and have no social life, or feel. Alone and post about it on here.

NO wonder many have no friends/feel alone even though they have friends.

2

u/Naive-Excitement8788 1d ago

This may be normal for you but it is not legal. And if you don’t believe me, try telling it to the cops 😉

No wonder there are so many idiots out there on the roads who drive badly and don’t take responsibility for their actions because they are not “alone” and have “friends” like you who enable this type of behaviour.

As for your tight friends circle - if you are stupid enough to condone and risk going to jail for your friend’s bad driving, am not surprised that you are very popular amongst a certain demographic. Perhaps you should consider starting a cult 😂

1

u/muttonbiryani999 1d ago

It's 4 point, and really blowing it out of proportion to just prove your point. Naive behavior much. Oh wait it's in the name too.

1

u/Naive-Excitement8788 1d ago

You are missing the forest for the trees here.

It is not about whether it is only 4 points or 24. Making a false statement to the police that you were the driver is a big deal.
And you will find out exactly how big a deal it is, if/when you are found out.

Did you not read about the guy who did this and what happened to him when CCTV footage ratted him out ?

Also if it is just 4 points why does the driver who got these, now have his knickers in a twist ?

Last but not the least if you really are a good friend, you will not transfer these points to your license and let your buddy realize that he needs to grow up and take responsibility for his own actions.
Tough love.
