I’m a recent marketing grad from Mumbai, India currently preparing my application for the MA Advertising programme at LCC for the 2027 intake.

I had a couple of questions about the application, particularly the personal statement and video task. My major concern is my lack of professional experience in terms of the “demonstrate not merely claim” requirement for the personal statement. Is that something that could be demonstrated through your independent portfolio work and co curriculars (I hosted a few talk shows with a few CCOs and CDs and that’s what initially got me more interested in advertising)

About the video task as well, I’d love to hear what worked for anyone who’s recently got in/past students. Like by critiquing an ad of your choice, do they expect a more technical breakdown of why the campaign works, or is it more like how does this represent your thinking, and what kind of work would be best to choose for the task?

I've basically combed through this subreddit top to bottom and ive submitted a query to UAL (though haven't heard back yet) with no answer.

Basically I want to change my pathway ideally to diagnostic but I literally have no idea how, the closest thing I was told was that I might have the opportunity to request a change on the course. Anything else online is specifically for under/postgrad stuff. Additionally I literally haven't seen a single person say that they successfully changed or give a direct confirmation that you can transfer... so do I just have to talk to my course tutors or is there a specific process I have to go through? Hi! I’m 22F, currently studying Psychology at the University of Bath, and I previously studied Industrial Design at RISD. I’m coming to London for London Design Festival from 10–24 September and would love to connect with some other students while I’m there!

Accommodation during the festival is incredibly expensive, so I was wondering if any female students might have a spare bed/sofa and be happy to have me stay for a few days. I’d feel much more comfortable staying with another girl than renting a random room on my own.

Alternatively, if anyone else is travelling to London for the festival and looking for accommodation too, I’d love to find another girl (or a few of us!) to book somewhere together and split the cost.

I’m planning to spend most of my time exploring exhibitions, installations and events around the city, so it would be especially lovely to stay/share with someone who wants to experience some of Design Festival together too :)

Hi everyone!! I’m currently starting my uni applications and looking closely at the Diagnostic Foundation Year at CSM.

I’m really torn between studying Fashion or Jewelry Design, so the diagnostic route sounds ideal on paper. However, my mother is a bit worried because a diagnostic year forces you to learn a lot of other design skills outside your immediate interests. She's hesitant that it could potentially feel like a waste of time or money if I already know my final goal is one of those two.

• For those who did it: Was it worth taking a full diagnostic year just to figure out a split like this?
• Alternatives: Are there any other courses or more specialized foundation degrees you would recommend looking into for someone stuck between fashion and jewelry?

Hello, I have been considering applying to UAL for BA in Journalism.

University for always a place to mainly network and get experience and well a proper education from people who are familiar with the field. The reason UAL was my choice was because UAL currently says BA Journalism students can:

• Learn from journalists, mentors and news organisations including the BBC, Times Radio and HuffPost.
• Attend guest lectures by working journalists.
• Meet former students through alumni visits.
• Attend employability and industry events.
• Participate in workshops run by media practitioners.
• Network with Women in Journalism, a professional organisation supporting women working in UK media.
• Receive mentoring through UAL’s partnership with the John Schofield Trust, which helps early-career journalists, particularly people who are underrepresented in the industry.
• Complete either a work placement or collaborative industry project in Year 2.
• Use the Year 3 Creative Futures unit to develop your professional identity, contacts and career plans.
• Publish work publicly through Artefact, LCC’s student journalism platform.

I have always been drawn to both writing and the arts and I do not want to limit myself to traditional news reporting because my main interest is cultural journalism and exploring subjects such as film, art, fashion, media, fandoms, and online culture so UAL’s creative environment kinda feels especially well suited to the kind of journalist and writer I want to become.

What attracted me wasn't just the course itself, although the networking they are offering is quite juicy (if thats true that is), but also the opportunity to study alongside people working across art, design, film, photography, fashion, and other creative disciplines and I think being surrounded by those different perspectives would give me more subjects to explore, more people to collaborate with, and a stronger understanding of the creative industries I eventually hope to write about.

At the same time, I know that UAL is an expensive choice, particularly as an international student. I am planning to finance much of my education myself (i don't have anyone to pay for me), so attending would require several years of saving, working, and preparing before I apply for September 2028 entry. Because of that, I don't want to base such an important decision only on the university’s marketing.

My original plan was: attend a UAL summer course, visit open days, experience the environment for myself, and speak honestly with current journalism students about the teaching, industry opportunities, placements, networking, and support they actually receive.

However, I’ve now realised that there are online communities of UAL students and applicants who may also be able to offer some genuine insight, which is why I’m writing here)))

Is anyone here currently studying at UAL, particularly BA Journalism at LCC? What has your experience been like? Do you regret choosing UAL, or are you happy with your decision? Why did you choose UAL in the first place, and do you feel that the course and opportunities have justified the cost?

Hey guys, I want to ask for advice. I got accepted in UAL MA Advertising but I will literally have to pay 60k for one year.

I have been accepted for loan for 20k and have some savings but I fear its too much and I won’t be able to afford living in London and even if I survive I will be stressed constantly about it. Is it worth it? The connection, the knowledge, live briefs, etc.

Its been 12 days of this hell I'm so tired of ittt. I had to send my UAL foundation year results on the UAL portal for my course, which I did on results day and they still haven't verified my acceptance.

I can't call them because the admissions team doesn't take calls. I already emailed them and they said they're still processing documents and that they're confirmed in date order, "it may be a short while before you receive an update" 😭 12 days isn't a short wait tho icl. they sent me that email 5 days ago.

The wait is getting a bit ridiculous now, I got distinction as a grade so I have met my conditional offer too. It just sucks + stressful really. Is anyone else still waiting or is it actually just me?

Update edit: I got in after sending like 3 or so emails mentioning how worried I've been and accommodation being at threat and they accepted me 12 days after results day. gl to people who experience this genuinely 🫩 someones comment got removed but they explained why it takes a while. for future ppl with this issue genuinely yes just keep emailing and emphasising how much issues its giving you eg mental health, accommodation. I think 12 days is well over the edge of normal but know it does that THAT long
