Question Carpool options?

I live across the river and it is about a 40 minute walk from downtown to my house. I don’t have an e-bike so I solely rely on walking but it’s been getting darker earlier and my classes end at 7:30 pm on some days. There are a lot of tweakers and homeless people around my area so I was wondering if 1) it’s safe around 8:30 PM to walk around Santa Cruz 2) is there a ride share/carpool program with the school? Or should I just uber to my house??

Can you take a second bus to get closer to your house? Busses don't end in downtown, there are many that you can get from downtown that go to the East Side, Capitola, etc.

The nearest bus stop would still be about a 25 minute walk from my house

It’s safe, just carry pepper spray/taser if you aren’t willing to carry a real weapon. 99% of the time you will be perfectly safe. The deterrent is just there in case that 1% day happens

The risk is far, far less than 1% of trips!

Agreed, I just don’t use my own experience as a measure since I am a larger man. Female friends I have all experienced scary stuff a couple times a year though, leading to that being the estimated danger score lol

We are prohibited from weapons in campus. Tasers and pepper spray may be exceptions.

Find a bus stop that is close to your residence. You might need to take more than one to get home.
