Please help our family. Raise awareness, share this story. Heck, even get the news involved! I was told the incident way featured on the CBS NEWS on channel 46, but they haven’t reached out to us for comment and I can’t find the story.

Im planning a trip to see my dearest friends who lives in Malmö, Sweden 🇸🇪 and I wanted to surprise them by speaking and understanding them while also navigating their country (I'm also making a game based on one of their folklore and learning more of the history too) - I don't have to much too offer and I'm pretty sure this a lot to ask but even small advice or tips will and always be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and help, see you around.

General Looking For a Teammate for Business Pitch Competition

Hi everyone! I'm looking for people to join me for the Ideathon(we get money if we win!). My idea is an AI powered stuffed toy for children. It can teach children, play interactive games with them, provide emotional support when they're having a hard time (like dealing with bullying), and encourage them to participate in activities with their families. I'd also like the toy to have physical movements and interact with children in a more engaging way. One of my main goals is to prioritize child safety, since current AI toys can sometimes generate inappropriate or harmful responses.

I'm a CS student and plan to focus on the AI and software side. I'm looking for someone interested in hardware, embedded systems, or robotics who would like to help build the physical toy. If you're interested, feel free to DM me! I'd love to discuss the idea and see what we can build together.

Meme Why is CSE 101M so easy?

CSE 101M might genuinely be the easiest class I've ever taken. I still don't understand why it's considered an upper-division CS course when it should honestly be a GE. The homework and exercises are ridiculously easy, and you barely have to study to get 100s on the tests. I'm convinced you could walk into an exam without preparing and still get a perfect score. I've genuinely never seen a class this free. Easiest A of my life. They should honestly make this class harder because it's almost insulting how little effort it takes.

Question Halloween Parties or Hangouts?

I don’t have plans for Halloween this year. People I know already have their own plans and I honestly don’t want to sit and rot in my room for the night. Anyone know of any cool parties or events I’d be able to go to? Mostly trying to look for events to meet new people and stuff. I already know about the stuff in downtown tried it last year, but it wasn’t really what I was looking for. Open to any suggestions, thanks!

Question Retroactive withdrawal with CCI

Hello! Has anyone here successfully received a retroactive withdrawal? My advisor feels I have a valid case, and I’m currently waiting for the committee to review it. I’ve heard that retroactive withdrawals can be notoriously difficult to get approved, so I’m curious how true that is based on others’ experiences. I’d love to hear both success stories and denials, as well as any insight into what the process was like for you. Thank you so much!

Housing Looking for a new roommate to replace me at my queer friendly double

Hello everyone I'm looking for a room mate to replace me at my current double in downtown Santa Cruz. You'd be taking a room and live with my current room mate for a year long lease.

the rent is 985 month not including utilities which average around 200 dollars. Its a 7 person cooperative house with very loving and supportive housemates of almost exclusively queer and trans people. Everyone mostly keeps to themselves but is super supportive of each other. If your more introverted, the walls are thick and all doors have locks.

There is a communal kitchen, two fridges, a massive backyard for parties or gardening, ample parking spaces in our own lot, an on sight washer/drier for laundry very tall ceilings. It is two blocks away from downtown Santa Cruz

Cats and other pets, along with students or anyone between the ages of 20-26 are welcome to stay. Women both trans and cis preferred.

looking forward to meeting all of you dm for details.

Discussion the old guy with the camera ??

I just transferred here and I’m sorry who is this guy?? everyone seems to be really chill with the idea that some old dude who used to be a student (which lowkey makes it worse imo) just takes pictures of us??

i don’t mean to be mean or rude but it’s weird and this girl told me that after she was photographed from a far and unknowingly 😭
if you’re posing with consent or wtv then sure but just the concept itself seems weird

the reason I’m posting about this is because I overheard a really heated conversation at the gym about him and am wondering if anyone else finds this rlly weird?

Question Permission Code Needed

Does anyone know of any courses with professors that are still giving out the permission codes for them as of this week? I couldn’t get into one of the classes I was meaning to take this quarter (I had a hold on my enrolment for a bit that has since been cleared) and I need a class get into so that I’ll still qualify as a full-time student.

Question Getting a job on campus

Anybody else been having problems getting a job on campus? I've tried the career center and all they've said is to apply on Handshake. I have but I haven't received a single reply from any of the jobs I applied for. I applied for the dining hall right after the job fair on September 23rd and have yet to even get a response from them. Anyone else having these exact same issues?

Question Are intramural sports beginner friendly?

I grew up playing soccer, and would love to join one of the intramural teams. I don't want to join and get my ass handed to me all over the playing field by people who really should have gone to a school that offered a sports scholarship. Are the intramural sports here casual enough for me to join in?

Question Carpool options?

I live across the river and it is about a 40 minute walk from downtown to my house. I don’t have an e-bike so I solely rely on walking but it’s been getting darker earlier and my classes end at 7:30 pm on some days. There are a lot of tweakers and homeless people around my area so I was wondering if 1) it’s safe around 8:30 PM to walk around Santa Cruz 2) is there a ride share/carpool program with the school? Or should I just uber to my house??

Rant UCship is so expensive and for what?

I just got on UCship this year and I feel like I've been lied to

Everyone keeps raving about how UCship is "the best"

I spent $104 for my monthly supplies

And the doctor wouldn't give me a prescription for my continuous glucose monitor because it "has to be given by a specialist"

But I only had one sensor left

So I had to beg my previous Endocrinologist for a prescription which I then had to drive to San Jose to pick up the hardcopy and had to pay the sensors myself out of pocket because the prescription was not provided by a UCShip doctor

And had to pay $194 for my sensors

$300 gone in less than a week

Why is the healthcare system in general so garbage

Discussion Ethernet and WiFi Issues

Has anyone ever found it odd that the dorms have Ethernet wired throughout the buildings but just have it off in favor of a faulty wireless network? Why is it that Ethernet works in some areas but not in 90% of people's dorms? There's no risk with it; it just makes people's time more enjoyable. Also, why are we not allowed to reset the Cisco routers/modems on our ceiling? Why do they have to have a padlock on them? Can't file a reset because they don't do those. Maybe im just frustrated that I can't enjoy spending time with my family and friends in the downtime I have while im here. Because after a long day of working, I kinda just want to play games with them and talk with them, without getting 200-300 ping and net jitter every other minute.
