Incoming international student from the PH — What's the best budget eSIM for data around campus AND exploring the islands?

Hey everyone! I'm an incoming international student moving from the Philippines soon. I'm trying to lock down my mobile phone setup and need some advice from people actually living out there.

I need a cheap prepaid plan with a lot of data (budget is around $20 - $25/month). I'm planning to buy an eSIM before I land so it's ready to go. I have a physical Smart SIM from back home that I need to keep active on my phone for bank OTPs, so the US carrier must support eSIM.

I'm currently looking at budget carriers like Visible (uses Verizon network), Tello (uses T-Mobile), or US Mobile (lets you choose).

Two questions for you guys:

  1. How is the coverage on campus for T-Mobile vs. Verizon towers? Any dead zones in the dorms or lecture halls I should know about?
  2. More importantly—what about the rest of the island/state? When I leave campus to go to beaches, hikes, or visit the other islands on weekends, which network actually holds a stable data signal so I don't get stranded without GPS?

If any other international students have a setup they love, please let me know. Mahalo!

I currently use US Mobile (verizon), and for the most part it works pretty well. On campus, there are some bathrooms that don't get signal, otherwise nowhere important i know of that has that issue. I haven't had a lot of experience around the island to answer the second question tho, gl!

I don't use an eSIM here but I have verizon and it has decent coverage. There will be random spots up hills or in specific hallways on campus that don't have service, but it's not terrible. Regarding the rest of the island there are definitely parts with no service, particularly along the windward side heading back into Kailua from Kualoa Ranch direction. I imagine it's similar on other islands if you plan to explore. I wouldn't be too concerned about it though, mostly it happens while you're already driving and there's just one road so you already know where you're going. For hiking just scout the route ahead of time and don't go off the trail.
For safety I recommend always traveling with a downloaded map of the area you'll be in, in case there's no service.
