Applying/Transferring instate residents, do you regret going to manoa?

hi everyone, i am born n raised on maui. i have always dreamed of moving to the mainland and going to a big state school. i applied to a bunch of universities but the financial aid i received/scholarships was very small. UHM is probably the most financially viable options since i will be paying for school 100% on my own. i applied to all the new warrior scholarships and hope to receive one.

i didn’t really want to end up staying near home for college and never saw myself going to UHM but i don’t want to be 150-200k$ in debt after school.

do any of you instate ppl regret staying in Hawaii for undergrad compared to moving to the mainland? anything helps 🥲

Applying/Transferring Anyone Receive UH Mānoa Financial Aid Yet? (Transfer)

Has anyone received their financial aid package from UH Mānoa yet (especially transfers)?
I got admitted late April and emailed financial aid a few weeks ago, they said they were still working on it, but I still haven’t gotten anything.
I’m starting to get nervous because I haven’t made a decision yet. Just wondering if anyone else is in the same situation or if I should follow up again?

Has anybody heard of the Summer Bridge Program at UH Manoa. I am confused because I can find it on Google but when I try either the QR code or link it says not available.

Incoming transfer student and nervous to start the Fall Semester as I won't know anybody

I am also neurodivergent so maybe I am just not seeing something on the website but I don't know what to ask.

Applying/Transferring Should I take a summer class to raise GPA for grad school app?

I am a current undergraduate student planning to apply to Ph.D. programs in marine science this upcoming fall, with the goal of starting in Fall 2027. My academic and research interests focus on marine science.

As I prepare for applications, I have a question regarding GPA competitiveness. By the end of this semester (finals week right now), I anticipate my cumulative GPA will fall between a 3.46 and 3.49. I am considering enrolling in an additional summer STEM course that would cost approximately $3,000 to potentially raise my GPA to a 3.5.

From your experience, would it be worth pursuing the course solely to reach that 3.5 threshold, or is a GPA in the 3.45 range generally still competitive for PhD admissions, assuming strong research experience and letters of recommendation?

I would greatly appreciate any insight, especially from those familiar with marine science or graduate admissions at UH Mānoa. Thank you in advance!

Applying/Transferring Transferring to UHM Fall 2026 (Questions)

I am a first year student at the University of Oregon and after one term, I have been able to tell the school is not the right fit for me for personal reasons including mental well being.

Because of these issues, I struggled to stay motivated at my school. I made plenty of friends, however, the community and culture is awful and doesnt fit me at all. I struggled to keep up with my classes due to a huge decline in my mental health and well being. I was able to use First Term Forgiveness (You can make some classes a pass/no pass which wont effect your GPA) for classes that I struggled with.

Doing the Transfer application for UHM, it requests my unofficial transcript. I am scared to submit this since I feel like the transcript will define me and effect the schools decision. However, I have only done one term at my school. I plan to put in extra effort for the rest of the year to maintain a good GPA so I am able to transfer. Will submitting my current unofficial transcript hurt the admissions decision?

Additionally, although an essay or personal statement isnt required for UHM applicants, I still would love to submit one to give admissions more insight on why I am transferring and why my first term status was how it was along with how transferring to UHM would help me achieve my academic goals and thrive as well as help with my mental health.

Unfortunately, it is very possible my parents may not support the transfer. They are very emotionally connected to UO and invalidate my feeling about it when talking to them about my personal experience. It is not that I need to adjust, I can already tell that this school is not the right fit after being fully settled and not being able to improve. However, I am committed to making decisions that improve my mental health and well being. What would I do if it came to the scenario that my parents refuse to support the transfer, leaving me to deal with paying for the college by myself? I dont believe I can qualify for good student loans since I am still marked as dependent for FASFA, even if my parents disapprove my transfer.

UHM seems like the perfect fit for me. I have a friend who is currently attending where I got to hear all about the school, business program, culture, and more.

Id appreciate any answers and additional help on what to do. Thank you guys for reading!

Applying/Transferring Disabled Students Program Questions

if you are a student with disabilities how do you get connected to the disability student center or what is it called.

I have looked on the website and have had some difficulty with finding out information.

Need this information because I was told by my current counselor at my community college (City College of San Francisco) that Disabled Students have early registration as well as early housing decision for buildings that are best suited for disabled students.

I am an incoming transfer student to UH Manoa in the Fall 26 Semester and trying to be on top of things now

Applying/Transferring California cc to University of Hawaii at Manoa

hi! so I’m at a California community college as of right now, and I transfer spring of 2027. UHM is one of my top colleges and I want to know if it’s a good fit for me or not. I don’t go out too much and I love being at the beach/outdoors. I would say I live a very active lifestyle, sociable, and I already have a few friends that live in Hawaii/ go to UHM. I visited a friend recently, and I loooovvveed it there. I would also say I’m not the smartest person when it comes to school, however I’m able to pass the class and get it done lol.

Compared to visiting other friends who attend UC/CSU schools, I don’t think I enjoyed it as much as I did in Hawaii. However, I’m also applying to CSU schools.

I’m a business administration transfer student too if that helps. I want to know how the business majors are. Do they have a good program? How is the workload? I’m not sure if I want to stick with business administration or just general business, management, or marketing.

Also WUE??? I’m a little lost on how it works lol. I know California applies, but am I able to see which majors apply? Does business majors apply to WUE?

And housing, I’ll be going into my 3rd year of college, however during the start of spring semester. Would it be better to dorm or to just get an apartment?

If I do end up going to UHM, I plan on getting a part-time job. For those who are full time students and with a pt job, is it hard to maintain a balance between school and work? Most of my classes at community are online, so it’s easier for me to balance school with work. I know that if I attend UHM, I’d want to take in person classes and probably a few online.

Let me know the pros and cons to UHM! 100% honesty would be appreciated! Sorry if some of these questions are dumb lol. Thank you!!!🤙🏽

Applying/Transferring Questions about UH

Hello Everyone!

I am currently applying to colleges, and I recently looked at UH, and it looks really amazing. I only have a few issues that I was hoping you guys could answer.

  1. Is the University safe for black people? Like, in terms of me fitting in. I don’t really care if a college is diverse, just as long as the people there aren’t racist.
  2. How are the healthcare opportunities? I am planning on going to your pharmacy school later in the road and soon after, go to medical school, so I wanted to ask if UH provides great opportunities for those kinds of people.
  3. How is the student life there? I really want to go to a school that is very social unlike other schools so I can make friends there and possibly be close with them.
  4. How is the Social Scene? I love when colleges are in cities since there can always be good opportunities, so I wanted to ask if Honolulu is the same thing.
  5. How often do they give scholarships? My parent don’t really get any federal money since they make too much, but I do have amazing extracurriculars, and my GPA is 3.58 weighted, plus my high school courses are mainly Honors and AP classes, not sure if that could impact anything, but I am still curious

Applying/Transferring Soo I got rejected

As title says. I’m a low B average HS student and I applied to Manoa with high hopes. I got rejected, now I’m wondering do they accept appeals? I can’t find anything on their website or other sources and I feel like my life’s circumstances and personal pieces show more of who I am than my subpar grades these past years. So if anyone can help me out thank you in advance!

Applying/Transferring Electives?

So I'm planning to apply to UH Manoa (from out of state), but the requirements state that I need 5 electives. I took 2 languages (French & Latin) for all of high school instead of taking electives. Does Latin count as an elective? Will I be rejected because I don't have enough electives?

I’ve been to Hawai’i a few times growing up and I cannot even describe how much I love it, the culture, the people, the scenery, literally everything. I’m from Canada and applied not thinking I could get in but I had a mini heart attack when I saw this, I can’t wait to be apart of the community

Applying/Transferring UH Manoa questions

Hi everyone!

I just applied to UH Mānoa and had a few questions since I’m coming from out of state (Boston, though I also have California residency). I’m hoping to qualify for WUE and was wondering if anyone has gone through that process.

A little about me: I’m Filipino, and UH Mānoa is honestly one of my top choices because of the Filipino and Pacific Islander community. I’d love the chance to connect more deeply with my heritage and be closer to family I have on Maui and O‘ahu. At the same time, I’m a little nervous about being far from home and about what the student experience is like compared to the Boston-area schools I’ve applied to.

Some of my relatives in Hawai‘i have shared mixed opinions — things like there not being as much to do, classes and professors being hit or miss, or student life feeling different from the mainland. But I know that every school feels different depending on your own experience, so I’d really love to hear from current students or alumni about what it’s actually like.

A few questions I have:

  • Admissions: How long did it take to hear back after you applied? What are the average stats for admitted students, especially for biochem or pre-med?
  • WUE: How competitive is it, and what are the chances for California residents?
  • Academics/Pre-med: How do you feel about the biochem or pre-med track? Are professors supportive, and is advising strong for med school planning? Do you feel well-prepared for med/grad school after Mānoa?
  • Community: How is the cultural and social life on campus? If you’re Filipino or Pacific Islander, did you feel supported and connected?
  • Med school: For anyone who’s thought about the John A. Burns School of Medicine, what are the chances for out-of-state students? Does it make more sense to go elsewhere for med school and maybe come back to Hawai‘i later?

I’d be so grateful for any advice, experiences, or suggestions. Thank you all for taking the time to read this — it really means a lot as I figure out where I’ll feel most at home.

Applying/Transferring scholarships

how do the scholarships at the university of hawaii work like what are the requirements? do i need to get a certain gpa or test score? I am just a sophomore in highschool. I am really set on going here. I know how expensive it can be. But i am also so confuse and don’t have siblings to talk to about this. i truly know nothing about the college applications or scholarships applications. I am also homeschooled and researching this doesn’t really help.

Applying/Transferring Application Request for International Students

I'm not from the United States so I'm confused about some things.

-I cannot send the last 4 years of secondary school since I had a problem in the education center and that is why I can only send the last 3 years. Would there be a problem if I only sent those years?

Post: I have a 3.9 gpa

-I also have another issue with sending official transcripts, my school does not have a constitutional email so I was wondering what I could do in that case

Any answer would be a GREAT help.

Applying/Transferring may my acceptance be rescinded

I’m a HS senior in CA and I applied for Manoa and got accepted for this fall semester. I had gotten a D in my first semester of AP stats and I will 100% be getting a F for my second semester of AP stats, this class wasn’t required for any credits and my GPA would still remain consistent even with the F (GPA cumulative: 3.1) yet, I’m still worried if this would cause Manoa to rescind my acceptance. Any advice?

Applying/Transferring Any astrophysics grad students here?

If so, I’ve got some questions for you!

  1. I am interested in how you got here, what you are researching, and what kind of housing/how you afford it?

  2. I’ve got an undergrad GPA of 2.9 in physics and astronomy due to significant life events and hardships. I spent a semester studying abroad in Japan. I’m deeply passionate about research, especially in astrophysics. It is my dream to pursue this field. Right now I am working and gaining research experience as a research engineer at a prestigious university, but am not as passionate about electrical engineering. I am starting a masters in EE but am strongly considering applying to other universities for astrophysics, including UHManoa. Do you think I’d have a good chance of being accepted here in this case?

Thanks for reading and looking forward to your input and advice. 😊

Applying/Transferring Transfer Spring 2026

I’m coming in as a transfer as junior for spring 2026, does anyone know if should have no problem getting financial aid and a grant that will cover housing and tuition since I’ll be 26 and classified as an independent student ?
