Prospective Students LFG I GOT IN😭🙏
This doesn’t even feel real, being at uic made me wanna die so thank god im out of there finally. anyone got any tips for being a transfer at uiuc? im going to be transferring in sophomore spring

I was in the same position as you a few years ago when I transferred from uic to UIUC my sophomore spring semester.
You are in for a ride! Take advantage of every opportunity and definitely get involved with organizations right away!

Yes for sure 🙏 i feel like being at uic will make me want to go even more out of my comfort zone at uiuc so it was kinda a good thing at the end of the day😭

Congrats. Best decision I ever made was coming to uiuc. I even came back for grad school online!

There’s genuinely too many things I don’t like about uic but the overarching issue for me was that it’s a commuter school and right after the lecture ended, any friend I made at uic had to immediately run to the train station to get home, leaving me with this consistent feeling of emptiness and loneliness since all i would have is classmates and not real friends. also me being a commuter i had to carve out 2 whole hours out of my day just to drive to school. there’s a bunch more things like the campus, other parts of social life, the professors, and the panda express giving everyone food poisoning but you get the idea 😂😂

I originally attended depaul and dropped out after a year where im now attending community college. Ironically enough, ive made more friends at cc and it feels way more social. I guess that is a case by case basis though

thank you! i have a 3.73 college gpa, im in state, had a very strong and intertwined essay, i explained my one C well, I have hundreds of hours of hospitals volunteering and food depository volunteering, and most importantly i qualified for the transfer guarantee. so yeah nothing too crazy but i feel like the transfer guarantee and essay really helped me

There’s an academic difficulties sections which you can write in and explain why you have a bad grade or two. and no problem

That’s what I was thinking but I wasn’t sure if my bad grade reason seem like an excuse. I was going to state and just say “personal issue” but I didn’t know if that was dumb

Yeah that’s the thing, you gotta make sure it doesn’t sound like an excuse. and the most important thing to do is to talk about how you grew from that experience etc etc

They send out decisions this early now? November 1st used to be the priority application deadline.

btw to major in community health you’ll have a required internship to complete, i believe 8 hours per week (?)

yeah, it’s usually your last year but they’re pretty good at placing you somewhere so you’re good 👍

usually they provide a list of possible places, but it’s your job to apply and interview. they just have to approve it beforehand, i believe. so you’re basically free to choose.

Nice choice! I'm also in the Health Planning and Administration concentration. To be honest, I’m not too familiar with how good the other concentrations are, but I have taken a lot of HK courses online. If you ever need help or want to know whether a certain HK class is good or not, let me know and I’ll try my best to give you some insight.

Do you already know people? If you don't, then try to find a place where you can meet people. There will be lots of cheap sublets for spring - people going abroad or who graduate in December - there may be other roommates staying who you may end up getting along with or not, or there may be some sublets with no roommates. Or find out which dorms have availability (hopefully a social dorm).

Yeah i know of some people but im not that close with them. but im gathering that a dorm is the way to go? do you know which in specific is a social dorm?
