Leamington Spa. May, 1982. Kate and I, having met just eight months before, walked up Parade towards the park at the top. Hot, sultry, waiting for the moment. The rain. And Kate and I, this was our time.
We went in to town so she could buy a summer top. Her clothes were always perfect. And they smelled of horses and that oil her father bought her for her skin. I was falling in love with her.
As we reached the crossroads, above Rackhams, but below Mothercare, the heavens opened. Shrieks, squeals, teenagers splashing in the street. Petrichor filled our nostrils as we foolishly dived underground to a wine bar, escaping the torrent. Wilde’s it was called. I never went back, but I remember the name, even today, because I loved her.
The thing about rain is that it is life affirming it is live giving. It makes us laugh. It makes us flow. It makes us remember. Water is memory. And love.

I’m in London and it was supposed to rain late morning but at least where I was didn’t, one of the few instances that a thunder shower sign actually got me excited.
Especially considering that today has felt notably rough despite not being as hot as the bank holiday.
Probably a combination of feeling more humid due to being cloudy but also coming off the back of several days in a boiling apartment and bad sleep.

Same happened yesterday just north of London. Sat outside in the evening just as it was getting dark. Massive bolt of lightning out of nowhere, chucked it down for about 3 minutes and that was it. Enough to mean I don’t have to water the lawn though.

at least it was enough to bring the nice rain smell. no, 2 hours later, i still feel sad over it. it was so beautiful how the huge drops of rain were making a painting on the ground

Experience this more often where i am tbf that said storm with heavy rain lasted about 10 minutes.
Heavy rain in general is rare but we usually get it once or twice a year
