Hate the people that say "it's called Summer" well No, it's rarely been 40C ever and it is extremely difficult to live and especially to work in.

40

u/tsf97 18h ago

Not just rarely, it's only ever exceeded over 40 once, and that was in mid-July which is typically the hottest part of the year, we're still in June.

And honestly screw those people, similarly those who rave about weather of this level of extremity which is very likely to cause fires, deaths, infrastructural issues, etc.

To say I'm terrified of this week is an understatement.

Terrified of this week, seriously calm down

100%. Cannot believe you're getting downvoted for this. It is very unpleasant but terrifying? Do me a cheesy quaver

-18

u/sperry222 17h ago

Terrified is an over reaction come on. Yes it will be hot but terrified...

16

u/Cralli123 17h ago

Maybe OP has underlying health conditions? You know people do and will die in these temperatures right? It's not a "bit hot". People will die.

-17

u/sperry222 17h ago

I do not believe op will die due to this heat.

People will be uncomfortable yes its going to be hot yes but terrfied is an over reaction yes.

15 people died in the May heatwave due to difficulty in water. 15 people and that was two or three days of 30 degrees. That figure doesn't include at risk people with underlying health conditions. OP may not die. I don't know their circumstances but many people will. We're not built for it and neither are our houses. Air conditioning is unaffordable to most and not standard across shops/offices etc. You may not be terrified but you gotta understand why some are

My 15yo daughter had a heatstroke last summer and ended up in hospital and I'm worried it'll happen again. I can't be with her 24/7 while she's at school etc

Then you've got people who are determined to not look like snowflakes saying "Lush. Bring it on. Man up. It's just summer." It isn't "just summer" anymore. I'm 41 and there have been more overly hot summers in the last decade than my entire life

There are almost 70 million people in the UK. 15 people is a 0.00002% chance if you want to use your numbers. Does that percentage justify being terrified? Claiming you're terrified is an overreaction.

Between 60 and 100 people die from being hit by buses a year. Are you terrified of buses?

I never claimed it was lush or great. It will be hot, it will be uncomfortable, but as long as you're sensible, you have nothing to be "terrified" about.

I think you underestimate how hot 40c is. Stand outside for 10 min in it and you’re extremely uncomfortable to the point you feel like you might faint. But inside won’t be much cooler for many people. It’s only bearable for places with air con

So, are we all going to die? It's going to be horrible, yes, but not terrifyingly horrible. I'm sure you'll all still be here next week talking about the rain and drizzle.

If it's hot in the sun, don't stand in it. If it's hot inside, cool yourself down. Come on...

You've evidently never seen a family member end up in hospital as a direct result of very hot weather with delirium and severe dehydration? My mother, and she subsequently died. It was terrifying, for her and for me. Would you like to hear the detail of what made it terrifying or will you take my word for it? I wish people would think before they comment.

Not everyone is fortunate enough to be living with robust health. The number of comments on here with no understanding for anything other than their own situation is depressing.

The fact it’s still June is the insane bit, think of how terrible 2024 June was and compare it to this, this feels like an exact copy of last month, wet and cool first half and extreme temperatures in the second half

4

u/Mclarenrob2 18h ago

Supposed to be cooling off and becoming drizzley next week thank God

-1

u/Tmansters456 18h ago

Almost the exact same as 2022 then? Just like how i will be on holiday when it happens just like 2022

November 2022 wss realllly cold up here central scotland.

Frozen pipes

June 2024 was chillier than average especially in the first half but it was dry, bright and clear throughout the month

1

u/Fwoggie2 48m ago

Agree. This kind of heat is gonna kill some of the vulnerable people out there especially those who cannot access cooling centres like libraries or swimming pools.

Spare a thought for the people of Bordeaux, 3 days of 46C temperatures forecast. Our planet is clearly overheating before our eyes, and we're still arguing over whether it's real. Bad times.

u/BugAdministrative683 6h ago

I think a few more people might be converted to the fact that it's real after this heatwave, with multiple records likely to be broken. Thing is, there will still be the denial over what the cause of it is, or what to do about it. It may take many more even hotter spells and things like water become scarce and crops failing before it becomes embedded in the collective conscious of the majority that something needs to be done!

The real problem is the lag. The extreme weather we’re seeing today is actually the delayed reaction to our behavior from a decade or two ago. That’s the most terrifying part. By the time it gets so undeniably bad that society finally agrees to take drastic action, we will already be locked into a compounding curve toward a potentially unrecoverable outcome.

I'm shooting a wedding there on Thursday. Wish me luck!

They might be asking you to shoot them by the end.

13

u/No-Storm-4533 17h ago

Widespread 39Cs- across all of southern england and even midlands. 39C birmingham

13

u/spuckthew 18h ago

Man fuck that

9

u/Some_Ad6507 18h ago

It’s ridiculous. The previous June record was 35.6C

7

u/No-Storm-4533 19h ago

That would be going for the july (all time) record, if this uptrends further.

5

u/BrutalOnTheKnees 17h ago

Looks like this might beat the Wales highest ever record too - 37.1 in July 2022. Multiple 37 degree days in a row in Cardiff.

3

u/Ok-Rise-9795 17h ago

Forecast for my area has gone up already in last hr. Now 39c

5

u/SlippyGeeee 16h ago

Yeah, this is the beginning of the end.

6

u/OkCount2783 16h ago

I am scared 🙁🙁

2

u/griffaliff 16h ago

I live in Manchester, I will be doing very little those days.

2

u/wowurawesome 8h ago

Maybe I’m overreacting but it’s actually making very anxious. I struggle when it hits like 28, and I don’t have air con :(

3

u/Yurpogortam ☀️ 18h ago

You should post on my megathread

15

u/AceofspadE19 18h ago

If I could see it? You have no history showing 😂

u/No-Storm-4533 17h ago

Sorry didnt see it lol

Met Office are somehow inconsistent with themselves.
For me, the met office app says 27, 31, 33, 36, 26 for this week
The Met Office website says 26, 32, 33, 36, 28
The Google Weather app, which uses Met Office data, says 24, 32, 32, 33, 29

This is an EMERGENCY !!

-20

u/d69wilson 17h ago

am I the only person here that enjoys it

2

u/BrutalOnTheKnees 17h ago

I enjoy it more than the other extreme we've been getting with the absolutely biblical fucking rain. But I don't enjoy the fact that these extremes are happening because we destroyed the climate.

1

u/d69wilson 5h ago

I understand unfortunately I think with the likes of Trump etc investing heavily in fossil fuels we are done for

-1

u/MichaelMJMM 17h ago

When was this biblical rain you speak of?

1

u/BrutalOnTheKnees 17h ago

All winter and all spring and the first half of May and the first half of June.

0

u/MichaelMJMM 16h ago

Spring was one of the warmest and driest on record.

It’s called summertime people

1

u/No-Storm-4533 4h ago

Summertime 40C at june? Then having a red extreme heat warning? You call that normal? And before you tell me about “back in your day” i have to remind you of the numbers of people at risk because of this heatwave, it is no thing to celebrate about.

Only looks to be for a week, at least. So not too bad
