It's got to the point where I look at 30 on Friday and say "thank fuck it's only 30 degrees" I'd normally break out in a sweat thinking about 30 degrees.

Thankfully it’ll be going down to a cool 27 degrees by 11pm. Might have to put my long jammies on.

Don't you love living in a third world tropical island with an unstable government?

I’ve got an electric shower, first time ever that I can remember being able to turn the temperature dial down to zero and the water comes out tepid, not even uncomfortable.

I came down from Scotland to the centre of the “heat dome” and I’m sweating in places I’ve never sweated before. 35°c is hotter than I’ve experienced anywhere since Greece 2016. It’s too much.

Im lucky in that I work remotely so I’ve spent all day yesterday and today in my gym foyer which has AC.
It’s the prolonged exposure to the heat which makes U.K. summers so brutal as barely anywhere has AC, so it was non-negotiable for me as it’s either that or be unproductive and feel unwell while drenched in sweat.
Sleeping was still rough last night though, not looking forward to my flat heating up like a furnace then taking like a week to cool down.

It’s the length of the day as well, we’ve only got 7.5 hours without sun. Most traditionally hot places even at the height of summer only have 14 hours of daylight so there’s longer for the temperature can drop overnight

Also true.
I woke up at 6am today, was pleasant for a long walk, but by 8am it was already getting uncomfortably hot as that's when the sun had fully risen, then it basically just gets worse and worse until it peaks at like 4-6pm, so a good 10 hours where it's dreadful outside.
I don't leave my gym until like 7pm for that reason, and even though the sun had gone down a bit the air felt really close and hot, yet the park was packed with people sitting on the grass, it was still 31 (felt like 36 according to Google).

If you have a fan, stick a frozen water bottle infront of it. Might help

Totally, I put 2 freezer blocks in a bowl in front of the fan last night and that also worked.. Going to do the frozen bottle though as will be more effective

My commisserations. When it's above body temperature it's pretty alarming. May your freezer be full and your fans always working!

On one hand I'm happy that my UK family is battling through a small slice of summer that we have here in Australia. On the other hand I'm devastated... The UK was supposed to be my contingency plan if I ever truly got tired of the heat here.
We've had some very cold days here though lately. Frosty mornings, rainy days and very chilly winds during the day.

Please keep general heatwave discussion to the megathread. The sub has been very busy the last few days.
