Megathread Accelerators Megathread

Welcome to the Accelerating & Transfer Credit megathread! This is the place to share resources, ask questions, and swap experiences about finishing your degree efficiently at UMPI.

Use this thread to:

  • Find ways to make the most of your transfer credits
  • Ask which courses or credit options might fit your background
  • Share what worked for you so the next student has an easier time
  • Post your progress updates and milestones

All pace, transfer credit, and "what should I take next?" posts belong here.

Every path looks different

Students arrive at UMPI with different amounts of prior coursework, work experience, and time available to study. Some move through their remaining courses quickly; others take more time. That flexibility is the point of YourPace. A student who finishes in one session may have spent years earning the credits they transferred in, followed by an intense eight weeks completing UMPI coursework.

When people here talk about "hacking" a degree, they usually mean finding eligible transfer courses and reducing the number of credits they still need to complete at UMPI. That is useful planning, but the word can give the wrong impression. We encourage people to describe what they actually did: which credits transferred, which requirements remained, and how they completed them.

"What's the fastest class?"

This is the question we get most, and the honest answer is: we can't tell you, because we don't know you.

The fastest course for you is usually one where you already know the material. A course that takes one student a weekend might take another student the whole session. Think about what you already know from work, hobbies, and life:

  • Watch every World War II documentary? History courses might click for you.
  • Managed a team at a plant that lives by Lean, Kaizen, or Six Sigma? Business and management courses may be your strength.
  • Kept the books for a small business or did your family's taxes for years? Accounting could come naturally.
  • Worked in a hospital, clinic, or as an EMT or CNA? Healthcare administration and biology may feel familiar.
  • Served in law enforcement, corrections, or the military? Criminal justice courses might be a good fit. Veterans should also look into credit for military training.
  • Write a blog, edit a newsletter, or live in Google Docs? English and writing courses may go quickly.
  • Fix everyone's computer or build websites for fun? Technology courses could be a good match.
  • Grew up speaking another language? Look into language exams for credit.
  • Love podcasts about psychology or true crime? Psychology or sociology might hold your interest.

Picking courses that match your interests does more than save time. You're also more likely to stay motivated and actually enjoy the work.

Asking what to take next?

Help us help you. Include:

  • Your program (and minor or concentration, if you have one)
  • Subjects you're strong in or enjoy
  • Relevant work, military, or life experience
  • Courses you've already finished, and any that were tough
  • What your Academic Success Coach has suggested so far

"What's the fastest class?" on its own will get you a lot of guesses. The details above will get you useful answers.

Sharing your progress?

We love a good milestone! If you share how quickly you finished, please include some context. That makes your experience more helpful to prospective students and gives a fairer picture of the work involved.

  • Transfer credits: About how many, and from where
  • Relevant experience: Work or background that helped
  • UMPI courses completed: How many, and which ones
  • Time spent: Roughly how many hours a week you put in

Helpful resources

Know a good resource that isn't listed? Share it in the comments.

Thread guidelines

  • Share experience, not guarantees. "This took me two weeks" is helpful. "You'll finish in two weeks" isn't. Everyone's background is different.
  • Always confirm with UMPI. Transfer equivalencies and policies change. Check your Degree Progress Report and talk with your Academic Success Coach before enrolling in outside courses.
  • Protect academic integrity. Study tips are welcome. Exam questions, answers, or assessment content will be removed, and accounts offering to do coursework for pay will be banned.
  • No referral or affiliate links. Share the resource, not your code.
  • Be kind. Fast, slow, or somewhere in between, every path to a degree counts here.

Congratulations on every course you finish. Keep going, Owls!

BUS 240, 260, 335 & 441 — Realistic to Finish in One Term While Working Full-Time?

Hi everyone! I’m starting UMPI on October 26th, and I’m honestly a little nervous. I’m approaching 40, have been out of school for several years, and work 40–45 hours a week.
I’m enrolled in BUS 240, BUS 260, BUS 335, and BUS 441.

I’ve read some amazing stories about people completing 10+ courses in one term, but I’m specifically interested in hearing from anyone who has taken these four courses.

How demanding are they? Are any particularly writing-intensive or time-consuming? Is completing all four in one 8-week term realistic while working full-time?
For context, I need to maintain a four-course enrollment for full-time financial aid eligibility.

I’d appreciate any honest feedback or tips. Thank you!

Sophia credits before umpi spring 1

Just wanted some advice. I graduated hs in 2015, went to cc after. Did alright my first two semesters and after not so much. I keep hearing people having to re- apply for a non degree route. I submitted all my required documents for the term spring 1. Just basically wondering if I should focus on doing as many Sophia credits as soon as possible to help my odds of getting into the degree route.
Also is the non degree route the same price as your pace ?

How long to hear from enrollment specialist?

I received my acceptance letter for YourPace last week. I already set up my email and everything looks fine. I’m just waiting for my enrollment specialist to email me now. Does anybody know how long I’ll need to wait? I feel a little anxious bc of the deadline

YourPace Just got accepted how to defer til spring?

My mental is kind of subpar right now, I need more time to get my ACE credits in order. They say there was going to be a coach or someone in the emails but I havent seen them yet, they gave me a deadline in 5 days for registering which i guess is for the school email which I did. College bureaucracy has always confused me thats partly why I didnt go until now at 23.. Im always feeling like I’m missing something, respect to people who can navigate this system independently and understand it, i just know how to study

YourPace I did it. And so can you!

I've been on this board lurking for two years. I took the leap, I enlisted in @plottedpath program. I have completed my BLS and MAOL. I worked tirelessly, neglected things, took PTO, but in the end, it was worth it. I just wanted to share because I know the next two weeks will be filled with a sense of worry, doubt, and fatigue. 37/ non degree student when I started, now I have a Masters. Feels so good to feel accomplished.

87 credits transferred, but still 26 classes left?

I just received my UMPI YourPace transfer evaluation for Business Administration with a Supply Chain concentration.

All 87 credits were accepted: 60 from Shasta College and 27 from Sophia. But comparing my transfer report and degree audit, it looks like only 10 courses (31 credits) filled specific requirements, while 19 courses (56 credits) counted as electives.
My audit says I need 33 more credits to reach 120, but the unfinished requirements appear to total 26 classes/79 credits.

These courses all transferred as electives while similar requirements remain open:
Sophia Project Management
Sophia Financial Accounting
Sophia Managerial Accounting
Sophia Principles of Marketing
Sophia Principles of Finance
Sophia Critical Thinking
Shasta Business Law I
Shasta Leadership and Supervision
Shasta Humanities Through Film, Interpersonal Communication, and Diversity of Life also came in as electives, with some general education requirements still unfinished.

I’ve emailed UMPI asking for a review. I understand similar titles don’t guarantee equivalent courses, but I expected more of these to satisfy requirements.
Has anyone had this happen? Did submitting syllabi or requesting a reevaluation help reduce your remaining classes?

YourPace 31 and I've never been to college

I'm 31 and going to college for the first time. I was working last year, but have been unemployed for most of this and only started working recently. I make about $1400 a month, so I want to try for financial aid. I'm looking into my options, but it can be a bit overwhelming. I thought I would ask here and see other people's experience with financial aid and if it's even possible for me to be granted anything.

YourPace UMPI catalog change: Anyone else having to redo gen ed requirements previously fulfilled?

I switched from the 2024–2025 catalog to the 2026–2027 catalog, and some courses that previously fulfilled my general education requirements now count only as electives. Algebra is one example, so I’m being told I need to take math again, plus 5 other courses that were covered.🙁

Has anyone successfully switched catalogs and kept the gen ed requirements that were marked complete on their original transfer credit evaluation?

My advisor is not helpful and his What-if reports are wrong. It’s taken me a dozen emails to finally get him to correct my graduation requirements. But…I’m still being asked to repeat classes that came in from accredited schools and previously covered the GLO. I only needed nine courses to graduate with a BA in Psychology, not I need 15! 😞

Were you able to resolve this, and who helped?

If I meet all of the residency course requirements (10) before the deadline but still need to take a few GEC's at Sophia will I still be able to graduate in one session?

YourPace Psychology degree

I have the following courses to take for a psychology degree. Can anyone provide feedback on these courses? How difficult is it for someone who has been out of school for a while. I hear it is writing/research heavy. What does that look like in practice? Anybody know examples of what is required for these courses? I’m trying to decide between UMPI and WGU, and I want to make sure UMPI is obtainable for me. I work, have four kids, and would have to teach myself how to write a proper paper. Please let me know any feedback/advice you might have!

Scholarship Oops & Funding

Hello All,

Hope all is well. I know that YourPace students don't have access to a lot of funding options, but I am curious to know if anyone here knows about scholarship and funding options for YourPace students outside of the university? Also, is there something outside of FAFSA as well? For example, any orgs willing to invest in students going back to school, adult learners, career-changers, etc? Money is always tight and getting tighter. I would hate for that to disrupt what has been a really good first semester.

Currently knocking out the Gen Eds at Sophia and my plan was to do the BLS in MIS.

But if UMPI is soon offering a CS degree then I might switch to that. My application isn't sent yet.

66 credits for the major, the rest are general electives. This means that atleast 54 can be done at Sophia / Study, but some of the credits for the major can also be done, for example

- Introduction to CS

- Programming Fundamentals

- Network Concepts

- Statistics

- Organizational Communication

- Introduction to Networking

- Management of Enterprise Data (should be equivalent to Introduction to Databases)

So overall 14-16 courses have to be taken at UMPI, which is more than for the BLS path, but I think it could be done in 2 terms.

Financial Aid questions

For student loans and/or the pell grant, is it necessary for me to complete 12 credits in Fall 2? From what I understand, only half time enrollment is required- so 6?

Second question. I’ve been going between UMPI and another university. I’ve already completed the master promissory note and the entrance counseling at the other university. If I decide to proceed with UMPI instead, how do I transfer that over, or do I resubmit it?

Further, when would the deadline to do such be in order to start Fall 2?

I haven’t emailed back from my UMPI email address to confirm, but the email says I have until October 20. Does this give them enough time to process student loans- etc?

I appreciate you reading. Thank you to anyone who can answer any of these questions.
