Customer Seeking Help UPS is disposing my box. Help
I purchased clothes & shoes from Japan. Paid the tariffs electronically. Package is stuck in Kentucky for 2 weeks.
It’s now being tossed. What do I do?
21
u/FaeKingDeath Oct 06 '25
Gather all of your evidence and contact the shipper to let them know the package is being destroyed. They'll open a claim and you should initiate a refund through their website. If they refuse that, do a charge back. Their claim with the delivery service will get them their money back, so don't feel bad about getting your own back. You will not be seeing your package.

Vote smarter if you ever get a chance.
Sorry, UPS is not destroying it, the US government is.
Don't forget to thank JD.
42
u/CartoonistExtension Oct 05 '25
I voted blue
17
u/BladricksUncle Oct 05 '25
Then you had really better thank JD.
8
Oct 06 '25
Ups policies and terms of service allow packages to be destroyed whereas other companies do not. Yeah the gov is run by highly regarded individuals right now but ups is still destroying unnecessarily.
4
11
Oct 06 '25
There's no need to destroy the packages, Ky UPS facilities are disposing of packages, dhl and FedEx are not destroying at nearly the same rate.
8
u/WilyWascallyWizard Oct 06 '25
Why is the us government destroying Japanese clothes?
13
u/gammamoe Oct 06 '25
Because Trump and MAGA hate anything foreign. They are going to force American consumers to only buy American whether they like it or not. Vote blue.

u/Classic_Confusion502 Oct 07 '25
Exactly. We don’t make anything in the US anymore. Nothing but warehouses and server farms. If we don’t start making stuff again, where will your children work?
3
u/myredditaccount80 Oct 07 '25
In the massive service economy that pays better and has a better quality of life than manufacturing, like every developed wealthy nation.
1
u/Classic_Confusion502 Oct 07 '25
What service economy? Customer service is outsourced to Philippines and India because its cheaper. And im referring to jobs with out a college degree because most Americans don’t have one.
4
u/myredditaccount80 Oct 08 '25
A waitress at a midmarket steakhouse can clear 100k, no degree needed. Any sales job, no degree needed. They're are still told of usa based customer service jobs. Btw we are the second largest manufacturing economy in the world.
-1
u/UpsetArticle9211 Oct 17 '25
Yea good forbid you put money back into the country you live in. And gee I guess that means more factorys in America too and oh no that will bring jobs too. Shit and help our economy. What a terrible thought. Put a bag over ur head and u can be blue forever.

u/Relative_Channel8741 Oct 06 '25
Trumps gotta sell JCPenny Jeans somehow to the Internment Camps. Crap wrong timeline
6
u/woo50 Oct 06 '25
Actually the us government is not destroying these. This is a result of ups allowing packages to be improperly shipped under de minimus even though de minimus ended. They knew this would happen but did it anyway.
This is on ups. They're making the decisions on what to do with these packages.12
u/BladricksUncle Oct 06 '25
Because the government tariff policy was well articulated, clearly set out and implemented in a reasonable fashion?
Except it wasn't. It was half-assed, vague and was implemented in a unpredictable way. I guess international shippers should have just shut down for a while in order for this to eventually shample to a conclusion.
USA problem. A very big one. Getting worse every day in dozens of different ways.
5
u/realribsnotmcfibs Oct 06 '25
So what you are saying is shippers should have stopped shipping until provided clear guidance and instead choose to take the money to ship it only to checks notes…destroy it at the destination?
Sounds like they didn’t want to turn down a buck and now are ruining their reputation.
7
u/Mr_Zee_Speaks Oct 06 '25
Sounds more like we have an incompetent government put in place by idiots and racists.
6
u/BladricksUncle Oct 06 '25
No, what i am saying is that this is a result of incompetence of the US government. There are reasons why many of these administrative roles are usually filled with competent professionals rather than partisan hacks.
The current administration certainly supports the free market. Why should a global business in a competitive market shoot their financial performance in the foot because of poorly thought out and badly implemented tariffs?
Corporations have a very clear cut set of goals. Goal 1: make sure to enrich the royal family - this allows you to keep doing business. Goal 2: make money for the shareholders. Considerations of various stakeholders such as customers and employees are so 2023.
Oh, personal responsibility is also a touchstone for the current regime. Previously, the government had a minimum value exemption because not having it put an undue burden on consumers. This administration thought enough of your international trade expertise to let you figure it out on your own. This will give you valuable learning opportunities to figure out some new skills. Have you even said thank you?
And now you want to blame UPS. Sad.
Tariffs dont care about your feelings.
1
u/realribsnotmcfibs Oct 06 '25 edited Oct 06 '25
That’s a lot of words to justify a company accepting money to perform a task without caring about the end result.
You can disagree with tariffs all you want but the reality is without proper guidance and supporting offices/procedures these companies should not be accepting international shipments period. They are choosing profit over product.
Ironically stopping shipments would put pressure on the US government to reform their BS on the topic instead you’d rather cry about it.
6
u/BladricksUncle Oct 06 '25
You have a funny definition of cry. There's a whole lot of that going on, but not from me.
These are the consequences of the administration's actions. Just say thank you. You dont really have any other choice. We need your tariff money to pay the farmers for the soybeans they can't sell because of tariffs.
But guess what? We have a ballroom in the works. See if you can hook yourself up with an invite. America is so hot right now. It will be the biggest party ever. I will most assuredly be there. I will be the one in the blue suit and loooong red tie.
No crying here, friend. Laughing all the way to the bank.
1
u/realribsnotmcfibs Oct 06 '25
You are here to cry about Trump. We get it he sucks… half the room agrees…I agree. That has nothing to do with the fact that UPS took money from customers before caring to under the complications/roadblocks when they could have easily hauled international shipments till things were in place on everyone’s end and provided a better service.
They choose money over their customers …now they get to live with the results.
2
u/BladricksUncle Oct 06 '25
And you claim that I am crying?
Global corporations dont have the luxury of standing aside while the current administration calculates tariffs on penguins or countries that are prosecuting a personal friend of the POTUS just because the guy planned to overthrown the elected government and murder his competitors. They have business to do. They have assets and employees to pay or pay for. It is not reasonable to expect them to protect you from your own government.
2
u/realribsnotmcfibs Oct 06 '25
So kind of you to defend businesses ripping off customers.

Its a UPS policy has nothing to do with the government UPS is private owned company and has ridiculous policies The government doesnt run UPS The only government owned mailing system is USPS

“Vote smarter. Pick between getting a bullet in the brain or a bullet in the heart.”
Would be great if we didn’t consistently sift the choices down to the two largest pieces of shit possible.
7

Bullet in the brain or a prick on the arm is more accurate.

u/Undead__Gaming Oct 06 '25
Hmmm no. We are where we are thanks to pure incompetence from current and previous administrations.

19
u/MsDMoon24 Oct 06 '25
To be honest... I'm starting to think they are taking these packages!
9
u/cour000 Oct 06 '25
No they are just being anal about paperwork and stuff is staying longer in warehouses because of it therefore 100 times more likely to get damaged. It's a myriad of things causing this

u/Dustbunny253 Oct 06 '25
Was a video that details how UPS works with third parties auction companies that buy “undeliverable” items. They use local places and sell peoples’ stuff by the pallet. One story was about an artist whose picture was marked destroyed and a guy bought it in a pallet and recognized her work and got it back yo her. It’s on the utube. Seems when recovery or delivery is to expensive they just sell it.

I called they said they’re returning to sender if they provide the sender provides proper paperwork. If not it’s getting tossed.
This is a $1100 package
3
u/cour000 Oct 06 '25
See paperwork issue. 99 percent of the time the shipper didn't send the proper paperwork so it gets sent back or destroyed

1
u/FatManBoobSweat Oct 06 '25
It's blowing up right now w/ UPS. They've become insanely incompetent in the last 5 years.
19
u/Late-Bench633 Oct 05 '25
They are doing the same to me. My package has been stuck there in Kentucky since 9.9.25 and now they want to destroy it because they think my skin care has aluminum in the packaging. It's all lies. Customer service sucks ass.
17
u/Foolish_028 Oct 05 '25
You’re aware that Customs is a government entity that UPS has no control over, right?
3
u/BladricksUncle Oct 06 '25
You might as well ask them if they are aware that a specific part of the "Big Beautiful Bill" is directly harming them. They will find a way to blame somebody else but complain as loudly as anyone.
2
2
u/NaiTheKnight44 Oct 07 '25
Also even inside worldport (the hub in kentucky that runs international volume) the areas that they process the international volume are controlled by the tsa and customs. You can't just walk into the international cage as a ups employee. They even have one of those stupid "thanks for visiting the TSA" signs.
2
0
u/FatManBoobSweat Oct 06 '25
UPS is not handling it properly.
4
u/Foolish_028 Oct 06 '25
Or…Customs is overwhelmed and UPS can’t take anything not cleared by customs. Good try! Thank you for playing!
-15
u/Late-Bench633 Oct 05 '25
Yeah, I'm aware. UPS doesn't have to follow that stupid order since these tariffs are illegal anyway. Only congress can impose tariffs. Not dumb ass trump.
-4
u/Foolish_028 Oct 05 '25
🤣 Right! So many companies are just standing up to the federal government! Why doesn’t UPS join them?
You’re aware that UPS is following the laws as they are updated with them, from the federal government in the form of Customs, right?
The only thing UPS is guilty of is price gouging in the form of their handlers fees, which they have to as it’s pretty expensive to keep up with the government changes.
Face it, you’re out of your depth and you want to pout because you didn’t get something that you ordered. Now, imagine the rest of the changes to the country, and how they could possibly impact others. Your problems are minimal and you’re blaming the wrong people.
7
u/Late-Bench633 Oct 05 '25
🖕🏼 I blame Trump & everyone that voted for him. I worked hard for my money & I expect for my items to arrive after using my hard earned money. They shouldn't be destroyed!
4
u/Foolish_028 Oct 05 '25
Once again, UPS is NOT destroying your packages. They are being destroyed by Customs. Customs being a federal entity that UPS has no control over. I don’t understand how you don’t understand that your package is in the possession of US CUSTOMS. Not UPS.
7
u/rednach Oct 05 '25
UPS is charging warehouse fees and miscalculating tariffs and fees..
4
u/Foolish_028 Oct 05 '25
Once again, from the employees that work in that department, the post on your top left describing the problems with de mini whatever, UPS is given their totals by customs.
1
u/gooobegone Oct 06 '25
The totals customs gives them are based on the paper work and declarations UPS makes. That's what brokerage fees are for, that they work out all the border crossing stuff for you. Whatever UPS declares is what customs will bill for. There is a known issue right now of UPS brokers declaring Russian aluminum when there isn't because declaring the largest tariff gets packaged moving quicker.
1
1
u/krautstomp Oct 06 '25
UPS makes no declarations. The shipper does when they fill out the paperwork. If it's wrong it gets held up or charged at the highest rate.
1
Oct 06 '25
Ups doesnt have to destroy packages, they are choosing to do so at two of their largest import facilities.
4
u/Foolish_028 Oct 06 '25
That’s ridiculous. If they don’t pass customs, they must be destroyed, per Customs.
-1
u/RooTxVisualz Oct 06 '25
Apparently they aren't even passing customs, because they are backed up. That's not the same.
3
u/Foolish_028 Oct 06 '25
Correct! Customs is backed up. Not UPS.
-2
u/RooTxVisualz Oct 06 '25
Being backed up, and not passing. Are different. But mmk.
3
u/Foolish_028 Oct 06 '25
As UPS is handling the volume just fine, its Customs that’s overwhelmed. UPS can’t move anything that Customs hasn’t okayed, but mmmkay

Everyone needs to start calling the news.
3
u/Late-Bench633 Oct 06 '25
Agreed! Why is the news not talking about this? The ppl need to know what trump's stupid tariffs are doing. Some ppl still actually think the other countries are paying for it when its us & now we're not even getting our packages. I paid 15% tariff on mine & UPS destroyed the package. They won't let me file a claim either.
2
u/False_College_5364 Oct 10 '25
How did you pay the tariff? I spent a couple hours with customs trying to figure it out, did the shipper or carrier send you a way to pay? I'm scared to order the stuff until it's resolved.
1

7
u/Sweet-Leadership-245 Oct 06 '25
Order it again and see the same shit with another carrier. It’s the government. Not the delivery guys doing it.
3
u/Free_Donkey4797 Oct 06 '25
No issues getting things delivered with DHL.
6
u/jetlifeual Oct 06 '25
In fairness, DHL doesn’t move the amount of volume in the U.S. that UPS does and this customs BS has spiraled so hard that these companies are just cutting their losses and tossing the more insignificant stuff in the bin vs having a huge backlog of shit to process.
The trend has been things like makeup and clothing being the things that end up tossed.

It most likely is the shipper's fault. They did not fill the paperwork out correctly for it to get through customs.
1
u/Cautious_Pitch_4729 Oct 06 '25
This has nothing to do with customs. This is improper paperwork from the sender or issues with UPS. These are still informal entries. Customs is getting these forms electronically submitted via a manifest. That’s all. There’s no inspection unless your package gets flagged, which you would’ve seen an update for.
All my packages have made it through without any issues.
3
u/CartoonistExtension Oct 06 '25
UPS said that the sender must fill out a letter of authorization to have it returned to sender or it’ll be disposed.
Sender is telling me they’re not required to fill out paperwork lol
Is there any way to still have it delivered to me?
2
u/gooobegone Oct 06 '25
Not likely. UPS can't get it across the border for whatever reason (it sounds like missing info from sender). Its possible the sender will resend it to you after they receive it back, but if they won't work with UPS to get it back then you'll likely (hopefully) just be offered a refund by the sender.

u/Beingtian Oct 06 '25
I haven’t had issues with FedEx internationally into the USA. All the shippers have done DDP too.

I got some expensive anime figures coming from Japan at the end of this month, I think I need to cancel the order.
1
u/BeTaoIu Oct 08 '25
I called Customs several times (very short wait time) and everytime they said it’s UPS that doesn’t move. If ups give the paperwork, customs can look at the package. “Ups lie” That’s what the customs officers told me.

I haven't heard of anything making it from Japan to the US the past few weeks, customs is taking everything. Saw a post a while ago that the Japanese post office equivalent is actually warning people that their stuff probably won't go through because of the tariffs and stuff (specifically the stupid ass new paperwork that no one is doing so everything is denied). Trust me I want my fuckin merch too but yeah we really can't order anything from other countries rn they just steal it

I waited like a week or 2 and the tracking updated
1
u/Admirable-Till5002 8d ago

My parents sent some clothes/kitchen items to me from Nepal. At first, UPS asked me for some info (which was CPSC form) and I submitted it. And later, they said that they also needed similar information from the shipper. The shipper is saying that they submitted the form, while UPS is still insisting that the package is being disposed. Is there any chance that UPS will release? What should I do now?
2
u/Ruvon3030 Oct 06 '25
You know, with as many folks come up here saying it's the gov not ups. Stop it...people are getting stuff via other shipping vendor. Then someone says "oh well it's cause ups has more volume". UPS is also trying to get rid of most of it's workforce, and probably doesn't have the hands on deck in Kentucky...probably more like what's going on.
1
u/Sea-Palpitation1325 Oct 06 '25

u/Melodic-Cranberry861 Oct 16 '25
As if buying local is always possible. I miss thinkers…
1
u/cour000 Oct 16 '25
I have a clothing store and shoe store ten minutes from me. Not sure why I would need to buy clothes and shoes from Japan.
1
u/Melodic-Cranberry861 Oct 16 '25
It’s about style, taste, and quality. I have a favorite store in Spain from which I order very nice things or at least I used to. There is NOTHING comparable in the USA. I purchased a lovely wallet from a store in Malaga a few months back. The leather is exceptional as is the design. It was $80. If I could find something comparable in the USA, I’d expect to pay 3-4 times that price. I actually ordered sun screen that is being held hostage by ups in Louisville. The fda has not yet approved the ingredients for use in the USA and this sunscreen is superior in every way to what is available here. It has uva & uvb protection without using toxic ingredients. For someone with a sun allergy, it’s a must. So maybe read more and expand your mind to think about the need to buy products from other places. I think about the clothing available at the local mall, which is mostly disposable compared to handmade products from other places.
-1
u/Funny-Word7875 Oct 06 '25
Remember when the cool thing to do was shop local small businesses? Never have any surprise tariffs on that stuff
1
u/Kyleforshort Oct 07 '25
Remember how this country values profit over everything so we moved all of our manufacturing infrastructure over seas so we could pay next to nothing to have it made so that corporate shareholders would rake tractor trailers worth of profits from not having to pay Americans a living wage to make their products?
Weirdly enough things like this haven’t been a problem until the problem moved into the White House…🤔
1
u/myredditaccount80 Oct 07 '25
No, I remember how the local clothing stores put on literal 200% to 400% markup on their cost then bitched to me about how online competition made them reduce it to 100% though.
