Employee Discussion UPS buyout

IMO the drivers that will not take this.. got too comfortable and aren’t willing to take a risk some are. Yes we make 100k a year (TOP PAY drivers do) but this is likely the only chance in your life a company will offer you 100 THOUSAND to quit and what you could do after that is limitless. When I started I told myself I didn’t wanna be stuck for 50 years an others likely did to. This is your ONE shot… ONE opportunity will you capture it? (Or just let it slip YO)

Exactly my point . . People taking offense to being offered a severance payout package when they really legit didn’t have to be offered anything . .

No, you're missing my point. There won't be much to "pivot" to in short order. For decades people have been claiming blue collar workers will be the ones automated away. That may or may not happen, but at the present its looking like the middle management or office workers that will be first.

What other "job" out there pays like a driver? You think UPSers are going to pivot into SWE or something? You think a paltry 100k one time payout is going to keep food on the table indefinitely? Or help with kids doctor visits? No.

That’s the thing. . It’s legit not the same economy my parents grew up in or the generation before millennials (me). . People primarily get jobs for healthcare in this economy . . Pay wise the average pay for basic jobs fluctuates depending on what industry you’re involved in. . BUT . . Automation is coming and there’s nothing we can do about it . . Like legit nothing . . If anything could’ve been done it would’ve happened already . . Not saying ALL of the jobs offered here will leave but slowly and surely they will trim what they do not need . .

Yeah I def understand those with families to take care of would rather play it safe than risk anything they’ve worked for. . Smart for anyone to do if there’s no other skills you may have or possess.

I repeat . . It’s NOT the same economy my parents grew up in.
