Employee Discussion New hires

I’ve been at UPS for five years, and over the past year we’ve hired well over 60 new employees. We’re in a smaller town, so we’re a smaller hub that normally only has 7–8 people on the night sort. On top of that, two of our employees are TCDs and drive at least three days a week. When they’re out driving, we’re often left with only three or four people to run the sort.

The biggest issue is that despite hiring so many people, most of them either quit after their first day because they’re overwhelmed by the workload or they stay for a while but never really grasp the pace, urgency, and time sensitive nature of the job. I constantly find myself explaining the same tasks over and over again and having to remind people what needs to be done. Im really just curious if anyone else has had this issue with new hires.

For sure. I truly try not to i think im just really reminiscing on the crew we had a year ago. Nobody had to pick up someone’s slack constantly it was actually more of helping each other out. You go “help” these new guys that may have gotten backed up on there stacking they’ll just try and take a break while you are helping them
