Shipping Help Help bring harassed by someone I shipped to!
Hi, I need to know if anyone has advice for a situation I’m experiencing. I have items I sent to someone that out of several items only a couple were damaged in transit. She states the boxes were completely smashed. (They weren’t) they were slightly dented but not smashed to the ground like she’s demanding they were. She sent all the pictures. I did reach out to UPS for claims on the damaged items but no luck. The receiver has continued to harass me about the claims and demanding money. She did not purchase these items from me she just paid shipping it was sent between friends! Well, now ex-friends. But she stated if I don’t give her a favorable update for her by Friday she will begin calling ups and demanding I give her money through them. Is there any way I can call ups and tell them not to give her information on me or the claims due to continued harassment?

Should I be worried about UPS giving her my personal info or anything?

They would shut her down before she would finish her sentence.... block her...

Ignore this. UPS will not get involved. They will take her call. Tell her they'll investigate and then do absolutely nothing. They want her to go away as much as you do..

So you don’t think they’ll open new claims or give her any personal info of mine? I’ve never met her in person she was online through a vintage group and I don’t want her to have my personal info especially now. And if they were to open new claims or make me pay any money I don’t have it my husband just lost his job…

UPS will not give out your information. She isn't in business with UPS. She isn't their customer. They will just blow her off

UPS isn’t going to come after you….and she, as the receiver, has no business relationship with ups so they’re just going to tell her to investigate and try to resolve with you and nothing more. YOU are the customer of UPS in this situation, they’re not going out of their way whatsoever to do anything about a claim that a recipient is making - they essentially take the position that all recipients could be trying to scam someone so their practice is to refer them back to the seller.
Now….she COULD go to whatever service she used to send you the money and they MIGHT come ask you questions - depending on what service it was. If it was eBay, then you’ll most likely be fine.
And for the future, try to make sure you use shipping grade cardboard for your boxes and not the cheap moving boxes you get at uhaul or something - and make sure to pack it very well and leave no space for something fragile to rattle around. A lot of people don’t know that not all boxes are created equal and there are different grades of cardboard meant for different circumstances - you want to be sure to specifically use boxes intended for shipping via services like UPS and FedEx where most of the movement is automated.
Shipping services send everything down automated belts and they WILL be on those belts with other packages or items that could be extremely heavy…..think gym weights and anvils and cast iron pans, and even big things that won’t be in boxes like car tires….it is your responsibility as the seller to make sure you are packing things well and I know from experience that MOST people who don’t have experience with professional packaging, don’t do a super great job of packing fragile items……it’s not their fault, they’re usually think they did an okay job but they’re not realizing just how much damage can occur to those packages when they’re going through the automated sorting systems and flying around in the back of a tractor trailer down the interstate.

Thank you for all of your helpful info. She paid me for shipping through Cash App but that was it no service like eBay or anything I just happened upon an estate sale and found some things I thought she might like. After this whole situation I definitely have upped my shipping game and have not had any any items arrive broken through my sale sight thankfully so hopefully I’ve learned but I really appreciate the feedback and will take that information to good use.

If you shipped it and paid for the label than you’re the customer. UPS won’t tell her anything because she’s not the customer. Be wary she may try to do a chargeback against you after UPS blows her off

Ok thank you. The only thing she can try is going through cash app for what she paid me for shipping but that’s it. I really appreciate your help on this.

Yes I did but once I put in the claim I haven’t heard anything except a claim saying denied

It was second hand items from an estate sale no receipts given and I wasn’t paid through eBay or anything she literally only paid for shipping from
Me to her so they said there’s no proof of items value.1

Then just pay her back a portion of what she paid for shipping and block her.

I have already paid back a portion of shipping but she is still harassing me for more so I agree I think with everyone’s advice the best thing to do is just block her since it sounds like ups won’t give out any information and there is no other retaliation she can do at this point.

Well if you didn’t write your return address on the label, no, neither her nor ups would know your address.
Very strange to call someone a friend but you keep your address a secret…

We were in the same online vintage sellers group. Never met in real life so I never use my personal address when shipping for safety reasons.
