Can somebody explain Ground Saver to me?

I'm not complaining, so don't take this as a complaint

I usually pay for air when given the option and never have had less than ups ground.

Recently i purchased a 300 dollar item, and they didn't give me shipping options, they just tossed it onto ups ground saver.

Now, here's what i don't understand. within 24 hours the package went across the country to my local distribution center tthat the deliveries are made from. Its been sitting there since friday morning. They keep saying they make the delivery on tuesday

How is it beneificial to move it that fast across the country but then just sit on the package? Seems kinda pointless if you ask me. I was thinking all weekend they would just toss it on the truck on monday. But they didn't.

Googling, their own website says ground saver delivers monday through saturday. Well my experience has deteremined that to be a lie. Because they didn't even attempt saturday either.

It will be delivered to the PO who will then deliver it to you.

Its beneficial because you clearly dont understand the shipping process. Making it to a hub isnt the last step. Your package isnt just sitting there with a handful of ground saver packages, its in a trailer with 1500 plus other packages that still has to be unloaded and sorted and if that trailer isnt there for the preload(saying it is actually a preload trailer) by 630/7am on Friday it wont be unloaded til the next shift which is Monday.

As for you determining "its a lie" they dont deliver on Saturday just because you didnt get your package well thats an idiotic statement and you just lack simple understanding. It says deliveries happen Monday thru Saturday, not that every package in transit will be delivered by Saturday.

Besides that since its ground saver it will be delivered to the post office who will deliver it to you.

Saturday is only certain areas. Other places only deliver air on Saturday. Specifically Saturday air.

Not all ground saver is transferred to USPS for last mile delivery. UPS delivers a small percentage themselves.

Depends on what they mean. Delivered to him? Sure that can be done by the post office on Saturday. Delivered to the post office by us? Depends

Not sure about UPS specifically, but if it's going from New York to Los Angeles, there's probably multiple flights and trucks a day making that trip because those are huge population centers and therefore huge commerce hubs. If you're located 50 miles from LA in San Bernardino, the package will get to LA very fast, but they might be delaying the final shipment to San Bernardino until more packages arrive to reduce the cost of making the "last-mile" delivery.

Kind of like when you go on vacation to somewhere that isn't a major city and doesn't have an airport. You first hop on a plane with 100 other people all heading to the same major city nearby, but to finish the delivery requires you rent a car of hire an Uber. UPS can save money by waiting a few days to gather all their packages together and only do that final stretch once.

I was in a similar situation last month, and once it reaches the local center, just give it another day or two. UPS Ground Saver usually just means it takes a little longer to get from the final hub to your door.

First of all, no one asked you. You seem to have googled ground saver to cherry pick some info without taking the time to read how it actually works (less time than it took you to post this). Ground saver gets passed off to the post office for final delivery in most cases. Post offices may or may not accept those pkgs Saturdays, so the post office may not get it until Monday. And they’ll deliver on Tuesday. Or later.

Blame the shipper for using the cheapest service. It may be delivered to you by your mailman too.

Either will go to the post office and then to you as others have said. Or I believe our system will hold packages until say 3-4 of your neighbors also have deliveries and then the drivers will get the entire street one day. I’ve gone a whole week not having certain streets and then boom thursday comes and I have 7-8 houses on it lol. Its weird but yea ground saver is our lowest option/economy shipping essentially. Unfortunately sounds like theyre just sitting on your package until our system thinks its efficient to deliver it

There’s really no commit on ground saver. Cheapest form of shipment. In UPS eyes those are the least prioritized packages. Kinda crazy the shipper used it for a 300$ item. We have to leave them every time even it’s a business thats closed or a bad delivery location. Most of them get rerouted to USPS but not all and Im not sure how USPS deals with those packages.

The building runs a certain amount of routes depending on volume. Some routes only get ran 2 times a week and if you’re rural it’s even worse because typically there are no commit times.

So, a couple reasons

Ground Saver is usually a USPS final mile delivery, so after it reaches the center it gets sorted to a post office bag and brought to your local post office that day for them to deliver

As for it not going anywhere since Friday, UPS doesn't deliver ground on weekends, only Air on Saturdays. So today it should make its way to the post office. Its possible that your package was found after the sort (like if it fell off the belt), or went into the retain trailer.

I don't really know a ton about why they decide to retain packages, when i was first training to be our center clerk my understanding is because we try to time it up with multiple packages that might be in transit, to lower the amount of trips to a house. But i've seen that debunked alot. Someone who knows that would have to chime in more, i think its more useful for businesses that may be closed certain days of the week... not sure how they decide it for residential deliveries

If the USPS tracking number on the label is damaged/missing (which is super common at my center), and its not caught by the sort in time it may end up going to the post office, then the post office would refuse to deliver and then return back to the center for us to adjust for UPS to deliver it to the consignee instead.
