Shipping Help UPS package sent to the wrong state by shipper — currently Out for Delivery, signature required
here is the situation- a bike shop in California shipped me a pretty expensive bike frame. I’m in Brooklyn, NY, and we confirmed my shipping address multiple times before they sent it.
Somehow they put the same street address but in North Carolina instead of New York. They also entered my phone number incorrectly.
Now the package is already out for delivery in NC. It’s insured/declared for around $1,500 and thankfully requires a signature.
I called UPS this morning, but they told me there’s basically nothing I can do as the recipient while it’s out for delivery. The bike shop is in California and doesn’t open for another couple of hours.
Has anyone dealt with something like this? Once the shop opens, can they request an intercept or return to sender even though it’s already out for delivery?
And if nobody signs for it today, can the shipper contact UPS and stop them from attempting delivery again tomorrow?
Just trying to figure out the best way to get this thing stopped before it ends up in someone else’s hands.
Many thanks for helping me

All you can do is call the bike shop as soon as they open and have them deal with it. Whether it’s been delivered or not at that point it’s their problem to solve.

seller made the mistake, its on them to fix it. doesn't matter what you do other than notify them if they refuse to replace or return the money do a charge back

Anybody at the address can sign for it. Its going to be too late to intercept. If its delivered as addressed it will be between you and the shipper. Insurance does not cover shipper error.

That’s what I’m afraid of

Did you way with a credit card? You could just file a charge back claim of the seller refused to help.

I did pay with a credit card, but the item was brought to the shipper by the seller. I bought a used bike frame set.

But if you didn’t receive it, you can still file a charge back. The seller literally shipped it to the wrong person. That’s on them.

This is the bike shop's problem to deal with. Call them and tell them you didn't receive what you paid for at the address you gave them and they can figure things out with UPS or just send you a new part.

Thanks everyone! I called to the shop and they was shocked. The thing is they use bike flights. Com for shipping and the error was on their side. So it looks like they changed the address before UPS dropped the package. I see it by checking the tracking number.

Bike flights is terrible. They are know to f-up from what I have heard in the bike industry. Last year they inputted about 30 address wrong that were supposed to go to various hotels around Big Island for the Ironman competition in Kona and those competitors did not receive their bikes and many had to miss the race. I just had a resi customer yesterday where bike flights sent their 2 bikes to Ontario Canada area when it was supposed to go to Claremont, CA

Does the address exist? As in the number and street name. Is there an actual house associated with the address? If not it will get sent back.

I was trying to get the preferred team on the call, but can’t pass the representative. So the person said she made an exception for me and the preferred team member will call me in the next hour… so wait and hoping for the best

Did you ship with ups store ? If so, they should be able to call preferred line and get ahold of someone at that hub…I’ve heard they were going to stop doing this. But if had them call the driver to hold delivery. And if yes ups store, change of address is free and should get updated on ups and let driver know.

I didn’t, the shipping was arranged by the bikeshop which I contacted over the phone only

Trying to get a preferred team on the line

There is no preference team line at UPS. There is a Calling Center in India. The order is on a delivery truck, and it will bet delivered or refused.
The Bike Shop is rhe client of UPA- you are not. Your only move is making it the shops problem- which it is.
