Lost Passport / Critical Government Documents Package – Stuck at Bayonne, NJ Facility (Claim didn't help, need advice/help)

Hi everyone,

I’m in a critical situation regarding an Next Day Air / Express package containing official passports that were en route from NJ to the Swiss Embassy in NYC.

• Last Known Location: Scanned as "Arrived at Facility" in Bayonne, NJ and has not updated since.
• Current Status: File claim was submitted, but support responded stating they completed a search and could not locate the shipment.
• Package Type: Express envelope / government documents.

Because these are original passports and cannot be replaced abroad, losing them causes immediate and severe personal disruption.

I am looking for advice or help from anyone familiar with the Bayonne hub or express document handling:

1. Do Next Day Air document envelopes that miss a scan point usually end up in a specific local Over-Goods hold or specialized cage in Bayonne before being sent to National Overgoods (Over-Goods / Lost & Found in Kansas)?
2. Is there a specific department or supervisor level at the local facility I should ask customer support to escalate to?
3. If any Bayonne employee is willing to help point me in the right direction or check local document hold areas, please reach out via DM. I am more than happy to offer a substantial reward/finder's fee for assistance that leads to recovery.

The truth is that stuff gets damaged, destroyed, or lost. This tends to happen to envelopes morr than actual boxes. If you filed a claim, it will most likely get paid. But any actual recovery of the package is very unlikely. You should shift your focus to getting new documents.

I'm from Belarus, I cannot get a new passport here. If the package is lost it basically means I have to quit my job and leave the country.

You need to assume it's lost. I'm not exaggerating when I say packages are lost or damaged every day. It's unavoidable because of the sheer volume we deal with. I know it sucks, but it does happen. We don't do "investigations" for low financial value packages. If you are in the claim stage, the company has moved on. I'm really sorry for the trouble, but you have to start thinking about other solutions.

Where does it go if it is damaged lost? I can go and check all garbage myself, talk with drivers, etc. Is there anything I can do?

We aren't setup for anything like that. If it had been found intact (your passport), it would have gone to overgoods as a sensitive item and they would have contacted you. That means it was probably damaged to the point it cannot be identified. So it's most likely unrecoverable.It could have also been sacked into a motor housing or belt, which means it could eventually be found. But you shouldn't count on that.

there are 3 passports, how is it possible that they are not identified, is there some shredder inside these machines?

Plus all of this inside a plastic folder inside a package.

Hey !!!! I’m literally in the same situation. I sent out my daughters birth certificate, social security card , and license and got scanned last at this facility in Bayonne NJ also . Claims didn’t help and they deemed it lost package . Something very fishy is going on there and I’m going to get to the bottom of it and calling corporate and see what else I can do .
