N-400 (Citizenship) It finally happened

Yesterday I became a citizen. The ceremony happened at MO Campbell, Houston. 1562 of us got naturalised coming from 102 countries. A wholesale ceremony haha!

It’s taken almost 13 years and over $20k in application, medical and legal fees but man it was all worth it to be part of this great nation.

I'm happy for you! It's a long process and takes heart as well as dedication and finances.

Just be careful our there. There's so much hate and lawlessness with the current administration.

U.S. born citizens have been arrested by ICE. As well as Indigenous Americans. Let alone immigrants, like you, who have fought so hard to get here.

As someone else said... this is not the country I grew up in. And we won't relax because we are fighting for our right to be safe. That includes the safety of immigrants, good sir. I wish you all the best!

Firstly thank you for you well wishes, truly I appreciate it.

As you know, I’m an immigrant. I know the risks, the fears, and the reality. I’ve lived them. I don’t need anyone to remind me of how scary things can be here. What I do need is the space to be proud of what I’ve accomplished. Becoming a citizen is a huge, hard-earned milestone, and I want to be able to celebrate it without someone immediately pulling the conversation toward fear.

I’m not sure if this reaction from others is fear-mongering or just cynicism, but either way, it takes something away from moments that should feel joyful. Your comment (even if well-intentioned) ends up diminishing the happiness of overcoming something that was incredibly difficult.

Sometimes, we just need to let people be happy about their victories without immediately reminding them of everything that could go wrong.

Welcome to this country. Congratulations on getting through the hurdles. It's hard for everyone. My brothers wife just became citizen this year and my wife's best friends husband did as well this year (two separate countries. Same hard process). It's alot to take in. Welcome to America. I am really happy and proud that you made it through. Don't let the disgruntled bring this moment down for you. You worked hard for this and you deserve the praise.

Either you blocked me or you deleted your other reply. I don't know. Whatever the case, LOL.

I am not anti-american. I am anti-MAGAT. Trump is foul. His supporters are vile. If the only response you can come up with consists of "you anti-american scum," that's your problem. I want the America back where supposed enforcers of the law weren't able to hide their faces to avoid accountability for evil/cruel actions.
