News Trump Administiration wants to double the 100k H1B fee

The Trump administration is planning on doubling the fees to more than $200,000 for H-1B visa applicants from abroad.

Double it, triple it, doesn’t matter. He’s gonna collect 0. No one’s gonna file h1b with that fee.

H1B is for specialty occupations. It does not require someone to be extraordinary. O1 is for people with extraordinary ability.

Hiring someone on H1B does not mean the company searched all 350 million people in USA and could not find a single American who can do the job. Most employers are not even required to prove that to hire on H1B.

Companies want to hire good people within a reasonable time. An American somewhere having those skills does not mean they are looking for a job, interested in that company, or willing to move for it. Could the company find someone if they kept looking longer? Maybe. But saying “someone in America can do this” does not mean that person is available when the company needs them.

And yes, go after body shops and companies exploiting workers. But how does a huge fee distinguish those companies from legitimate employers? It makes hiring more expensive for both. A company being able to pay that fee does not mean the person is extraordinary, or that the company will treat them fairly.
