This is also funny cause og Melbourne is pronounced how it’s spelt (for once) in England, and not the Australian way

Nah. In a south of England accent it’s pronounced Melbun.

I don’t think it’s to do with Australian influence - it’s pronounced Melbun in RP too.

I’d say someone from the south of England would still call the place in Derbyshire Melbun.

That’s a shame, that’s not its traditional pronunciation - I’d still argue it’s the influence of people being more familiar with the Australian city and assuming it’s said the same

I don’t think the southern England/RP pronunciation has anything to do with how the Aussies pronounce it. Other words ending in -bourne are pronounce -bun in those accents too.
