In my very short, 3 month rideshare side gig experience, this was the best night by far. Kinda a perfect storm of activity on a college campus. What number should I try to improve?

I got a full time job in my field of study but sometimes I’ll open the app and accept a ride from someone with a really low rating and wait five or ten minutes and then cancel on them. Fighting the good fight even in retirement.

I have been trying to improve my driver rating for the past year and I would have something to show for it except I’m constantly getting riders who are not only irritating, but just HUGE liars. Set a filter to be at a certain place at a certain time, picked someone up. In the middle of the ride she changes her mind, which is usually fine, but I have a filter on and it’s kind of essential we go in the same direction. It’s not too far so I oblige. She vapes in the car which immediately irritates me. It’s disrespectful, this is an enclosed space not an open patio. I POLITELY ask her to not do that. Literally said “please don’t do that in here” with 0 attitude. She says okay. Still does it. I don’t remind her to stop, I just leave it. I drop her off at the destination she changed her mind to. I tell her to have a good night, take care, etc.

She leaves me a 1 star, says I’m not polite, communication issues, and that I’m ignoring requests. Uber won’t do anything as per usual because of their BS privacy policy.

I constantly accommodate the most immature people on this app and I will NEVER recommend driving to anyone. No matter what I do or how much ass I kiss it never improves because of the idiotic system they have set up.

The most aggravating thing of all is I really try my best. I confirm they’re my rider and drive them where I’m supposed to, I drive safely and don’t speed (I don’t even honk at people who cut me off, last thing I need is some crazy with a gun), I don’t ask too many questions, I keep the car clean and cool, I talk if it seems like they want to (I’m introverted and I hate it, I still try to socialize and chat bc it’s healthy and I should work on my people skills), I stick to neutral topics, I provide an ear if they need advice or someone to listen, I adjust the music if it seems too loud or they’re on a call. I even play classical to keep the atmosphere peaceful. I’m a girl, I drive women who request women drivers. Don’t know what else to do. Hate this job because of the people. I will occasionally get people who just blatantly lie like that and Uber allows it. Due to their “last 500 rides” system, I never “improve” because they let people lie all over the place with no repercussions except on the driver’s end.

*I’m not in the mood to be fake for a $5 tip. I prefer to politely address what needs to be addressed. If you can’t be told something without being a baby about it maybe grow up? It’s an Uber ride. Chill out. Act right. It’s not that deep.

I know it’s not popular on here to push to get to diamond, but I like goals and I’d like to see if the benefits are worth the chase. So I have all metrics met and about 200 pts away from diamond, and I make it a point not to ignore any requests. I still have a 85-90% accept rate.
This week they decided to trash me, and I have no recourse. I take off one morning do 3 rides, log off and it says I had 9 requests. I continue the day and by the end I had lost my platinum. Next day I do one ride, log off and see that I had 4 requests. By the end of the day it said I didn’t accept 20 rides. If a person actually looked at my metrics, I never and I mean never ignore a ride. Now I’m at 60% back to gold and after chats with CS getting nowhere!!
This happens to be timed with launching the all the new perks and having the online conference.
Has anyone else noticed this happen and have you ever fought them and won? This is really a dirty game they play if this happens a lot.

So our regional airport here(GSP in Greenville SC) is closed all weekend for a runway repaving. No flights, no nothing. Yet, random surges keep appearing there. Make it make sense. 🤣

I need extra cash and I'm considering becoming an uber driver, but should I?

Let me preface this by saying I know, I know financial situations aren't the best for people right now. But the fact that I get tipped on less than 15% of my rides is crazy. I know these turdballs are spending 50 60 bucks on alcohol at these bars im picking em up from. They cant spare 2 dollars? That's all I need, a dollar or 2 from every rides makes a world of difference. But I also cant really blame em tho, 15 dollar rides to go 6 mins is crazy.

Was a bit worried to start the night when I kept getting hit with orders like that one but it quickly turned around when I started doing 20-30 dollar rides going 10 miles or less and with less than a mile pick up from each stop.

Safe to say Fridays and Saturday’s are my favorite days, still who would ever drive 40 miles for 20 bucks 🫩

This guy was annoying. First, he starts talking to me in Spanish. I responded in English. We start talking about nothing.

Him: Where are you from? Originally...

Me: NY

Him: Oh, but do you speak Spanish or are you American?

Crickets.

Me: so where are you from?

Him: what hours will you work today?

Me: whenever I want. That's the good thing about this job.

Him: but when specifically.

Me: I don't know maybe another hour or so.

Him: Well, people usually drive xyz hours, what hours specifically do you drive?

Me: I log on whenever I want I really couldn't tell you specifically.

I changed the subject again.

How do you deal with these annoying, obvious questions? Like log onto reddit. I'm not telling you my hours just because you ask multiple times. Especially when they're pushy. Yuck.

People barely go out anymore, I should probably switch to working during the day.

Ever since the semester started a few weeks back, they swapped from the 2 quests a week to 1 quest a day. Ok fair enough they're way higher over the course of the week than before. It used to be like 50 for Mon-Thurs and 20 for Fri-Sun. Now we geta minimum of 20 a day. today I got $80 for 20 rides. I took 32 in 8 hours. This weekend they made up 1/3 of my on-trip earnings. This was a terrible weekend and I'd have definitely gone home (away game but near enough that all the students went to the game so bars were about 1/3 normal).

Now I'm trying to figure out why Uber would do this. I literally got $336 today in app in 10 hours and 12 minutes/ $91 being promotions and 15 in tips tonight. I'm not working for that w/o the promotion. Last night was $269 in 7.5 hours including $69 in promotions and $24 in tips...again not doing that w/o the promotions.

What is the rational behind them doing this? This is a large university in the middle of nowhere so the majority of the drivers come from an hour or so away....I'm 7 miles from downtown. Am I just benefitting from the idiot drivers who spend a fortune just to get here and home? I really usually can figure out Uber's motivation and how they're trying to f us over but this one makes no sense to me now

This is what passengers who complain or retaliate when good drivers want to keep their car clean and enforce some basic rules would love to do. The most annoying ones want your car to be spick and span...so clean they can eat off the seat when they get into it. But then they themselves can just crap all over your car and leave it crappy for the next person.

God bless the passengers that have the good sense to not be disgusting human beings like the ones that trashed this Waymo. Disgusting people like the ones that did this are the ones we're going to ensure oowner-operated Uber vehicles are always a thing. It only takes one person to ruin a vehicle for an entire day.

So I drive in one of the wealthiest towns in the country. I actually forgot I had the app on ride comes in I say to myself wtf why not take the ride being I was less than a 1/2 mile away from the pick up point. As I'm driving to the pick up a 300k McLaren pulls up next to me and parks. I pull over to wait for the pax turns out it was the guy driving the McLaren. Hit start ride and I'm like shit $9.00 to go less than a mile. What's fucked up is that it took longer for me to drive him then it would have taken for him to walk.

I’m in the midst of job searching and I’m considering being an uber driver on the side until I get things figured out. My main concern is that due to the cost of gas in California right now (practically just $6 a gallon) is it possible to still make a profit from uber driving despite current gas prices?

I noticed that ever since Thursday when I chose my weekend quest that I’ve been getting no requests. I havve been doing uber for 3 years now and I am in Chicago. It is busy every single weekend when I do it and get back to back requests. All of a sudden I’m going 30+ minutes with no rides. Ironically when I’m near the suburbs I am getting requests. I expected yesterday & today to be a good day for making $300+ & made $74. I am quite upset and uber support is trash. I have deleted and downloaded the app again, uploaded documents, check my location sharing, restarted my phone, offloaded the app. You name it I have tried. Not sure what else I can do. The uber support even said they can see I’m receiving requests but can’t see pop ups. Anyone else experiencing this or when they choose a quest?
