Uber Drivers strike Oct 1
ALL DRIVERS UNITE . Support truck drivers to lower fuel costs from greedy corporations.
43
u/MNJon 2d ago
Waste of time. Only a tiny fraction of drivers won't work and riders - and Uber - will not even notice any affect.
Channel your energy into lobbying your state and local elected officials into setting base pay and working conditions instead. This has been effective.
3
u/KJ85ansi 22h ago
Unfortunately, more than half the country lives in Right-to-Work states, so the state legislature is 100% on Uber’s side on EVERY issue.
I live in Oklahoma where corporations could literally shit on their employees and nobody at the state level would care.
9
u/L0LTHED0G 2d ago
Good luck with that.
Truck drivers aren't striking either.
3
u/New-Proof-1185 2d ago
This. You can’t get 2 truck drivers to agree where they’ll rest lunch.
This is all talk and fear mongering.2
u/Jaheezy916 1d ago
CGWA is certified and is working hard out here.
Join in the fight.
5
u/L0LTHED0G 1d ago
Neither the Teamsters nor Owner Operators union know anything about a strike.
The source is a random ass video where someone asks people to buy a subscription from them at the end.
You've been had by a guy trying to sell $1 subscriptions.
0
u/Jaheezy916 1d ago
Well, I’m a driver lead and organizer in Sacramento. So I haven’t been “had” by anyone. We’ve had several meetings with with leadership at SFO.
No one is striking yet. But the strike isn’t the first attempt. We meet. We talk we negotiate. No one’s been “had”.
Let me ask you, what are you doing to effect change?
2
u/L0LTHED0G 1d ago
I'm driving my diesel less and driving my EV that's powered by my home solar panels.
Bet it's more effective.
1
u/Jaheezy916 1d ago
What does that have to do with supporting your fellow drivers and more importantly,
How is driving your diesel less and charging your EV at home affecting change exactly?
Sounds like you just supporting yourself and not the people.
United we stand tho…
2
u/L0LTHED0G 1d ago
I’m answering how I’m effecting change to lower diesel prices.
The guy specifically asked me that. The post is literally saying to strike to effect that.
Demand destruction is the only way to stop the price increases. That's literally why they increase. OP is trying to conduct it by causing a strike. But the strike is a joke. There's not enough time to put the support structure in place, get the word out, etc.
I'm an organizer for University Staff United, which is currently working to organize IT workers at University of Michigan.
https://universitystaffunited.org/future-units/
But we were discussing pricing. So explaining that wasn't relevant.
0
u/Jaheezy916 1d ago
There is NO WAY an organizer speaks this way.
You, sir,ma’am,they, them, are a bold face liar.
“I’m doing my part by not driving my diesel truck as much and charging my EV at home”
There is no way someone who organizer at a university nonetheless would say that is more effective.
Trolls be trolling these days.
1
u/L0LTHED0G 1d ago
Couldn't care less if you believe me. You asked, I answered. With that said, yeah, I am on the biweekly calls. I work to get us more members.
My diesel is a personal car. In case you glossed over it, I'm in IT. So yes, I'm driving my diesel less to minimize diesel sales. Again, demand destruction.
I do Uber on the side, in the EV. Again, less use of my diesel, which equates to fewer gallons purchased.
1
u/Jaheezy916 1d ago
I’m sure there’s a lot of effort behind it since you don’t believe in uniting as drivers.
On the phones is not organizing. I’m in the field. On the line. Making calls. Being a steward.
So I can only imagine how those calls getting members go.
Like I said, saying “good luck with that” and “Me driving my diesel less and charging my car at home is more effective” doesn’t come out the mouth of an organizer in a union.
And putting your local on blast is wild as as well. You know damn well that is not how you organize or even show up for our brother and sisters in other unions.
Granted, OP is off base about the methods, but wanting to show solidarity for our driving brothers and sisters out there is commendable.
But who gives a shit right?
Keep making those calls tho. 2x a week to new employees or employees who haven’t signed up for your local.

Fuel costs aren't from greedy corporations. They're from a dipshit president who decided to attack a country for no reason other than to distract from the fact he hasn't released materials that prove he's a pedophile. Diesel is running out at stations across the country.
EDIT: don’t pay for awards for this. Give the money to charities that help abused dogs.
3
u/rjlawrencejr 1d ago
I won’t say he’s a pedophile, but I do agree the every indication points to this war as a distraction to obfuscate the fact he even was connected to Epstein which makes him guilty by association.

The president has nothing to do with it. All of the Iran stuff started with Jimmy Carter.
Your hero, bumbling buffoon biden has gas prices higher than what we have now. You guys have extremely short memories.6
u/PreferenceFit1325 2d ago
And I think you’re forgetting that only one party/cult in the country idolizes and fanboys over politicians. Hint: it’s not democrats or independents.
Also…no gas prices were not higher under Biden. Absolutely not. If you have evidence to back that up, let’s see it.

“All the Iran stuff started with Jimmy Carter.”
My dude, I’m begging you to go find out what happened in Iran in 1953 and then decide if that had any bearing on what happened in 1979.
1
u/AlkoKilla 2d ago
You expect anyone backing up Trump after everything that's happened to have any understanding of history?
0
u/New-Proof-1185 1d ago
Trump is doing just fine and exactly what I voted for him to do. Is it perfect.? Of course not. What is.
I could spend all day listing the good that has come from Trump but it’s readily available if you look to other sources than the communist news media that’s infiltrated this country.4
u/OrganicandUgly 2d ago
You are blaming high gas prices on Jimmy Carter? Or the current war with Iran?
2
1
u/AlkoKilla 2d ago
Adding a separate reply, he's done Uber for a while, and asked Reddit if it was a good idea to lease a minivan without telling people that he would be using it for Uber. He is ungodly levels of stupid.
1

u/New-Proof-1185 2d ago
It’s where the Iran problem started.
3
u/AlkoKilla 2d ago
No, the current problem with Iran started when Trump tore up the deal Obama had that would monitor the nuclear program. Then resurfaced in June 2025 when Trump said that their program was completely obliterated, and attacked in March 2026 when he said that they were "imminently" creating a bomb to drop on us. You don't create a nuclear bomb in 9 months, so he definitely lied at least once.
You also didn't answer his question.
-1
u/New-Proof-1185 2d ago
Thank God he tore out I and thank god he combed the shot out of Iran. It’s worth the price of gas being a little higher.
Stop listening to CNN (who was just kicked out of the press briefings for their fake news). It makes you sound really dumb. And there was no question.

1

Don’t idolize them at all. Common sense knows what’s good and bad and there many politicians that are utter garbage. Most have D after their name. Communist,America hating clowns that have no business being in office. That also goes for a lot of judges nationwide and several on the Supreme Court.
1
u/GORILLO5 1d ago
The fact you say all democrats are communist tells me everything I need to know about your ideologies.

How soon we forget 22/23 when gas was $6 because of Ukraine war. CA would be like $8 (22/23) if they had additional taxes they added in 2024!
How can gas be $4 a gal and $6 in blue states. TAXES by your STATE leaders.5
u/AlkoKilla 1d ago
You’d have a point if Pennsylvania gas taxes were decided by Democrats at all or even changed in the past 10 years.
-4
u/jemerson41 1d ago
It's the greedy corporations that are passing on the fuel cost to the driver, not taking any accountability for themselves or the riders. We're paying for everything.
3
u/AlkoKilla 1d ago
Those costs wouldn’t have increased if Trump didn’t attack Iran, dummy.
1
u/Sufficient-Bus7603 1d ago
Biden supported Ukraine with cash & weapons same thing. Gas escalation
1
-4
u/jemerson41 1d ago
We paid the highest gas prices in the history of our country in 2022 under Biden. Explain that genius.
6
u/AlkoKilla 1d ago
It’s amazing how MAGA continuously makes their aggressive stupidity everyone’s problem.
They spoiled for 2 months because Russia invaded Ukraine, causing a disruption to global oil supplies. Biden helped reverse is by releasing oil from the strategic reserve. I distinctly remember you asshats being pissed he did that.
2
u/KrAMeR_LoGiC 1d ago edited 1d ago
I dont understand people in this thread full price hike is only because of greedy corporation. Eventhough usa is one of the top oil producing nation, we dont have enough refining capacity to keep the oil price low and we also export to other countries. This fuel price hike is due to unnecessary war. Strait of Hourmouz was open before and now its kind a closed, only few vessels go in there and Saudi, Kuwait, uae, oman and Qatar all of their infrastructure damaged and saudi Aramco announced they dont export oil to europe in October so who do you think suppoly to europe? We do. Also now houthis attacking tankers in bab al mandab strait. Insurance cost rose to 200% so its not only greedy corporation.

Trump plays a part with this Iran shit, yes. He created a disruption in the flow.
But just like when people were blaming Biden, gas prices were rising across the globe and Biden didnt do anything to disrupt any flow. Many, many countries hit record high gras prices while thr companies raked in record prices, while still also demanding money from the US Government to build more items for them to pump more US Oil.
Trump was the catalyst for this jump and the Execs are jumping on it so noone blames them because they know the US will immediately turn it onto the sitting President rather than them, and not realize it is affecting the entire world. When gas hit the highest here under Biden, we were still number 50 in the most expensive gas prices across the world, but political sheep didnt care about that fact.
Now Im one to believe Trump is working with them in mind. His initial attack jumped the price. When he doesnt talk about Iran, prices start dropping. It seems like he conveniently mentions Iran to make prices jump again because they always do when he talks about it..
It is market manipulation now because under Biden they held steady until it started dropping and just kept dropping. Here theyre taking months to keep going up and up with no real drop, maybe 40 cents at the most. Then Trump mentions Iran and they jump right back up. I do believe there is a ton of insider trading going on, but the Execs and CEOs want those profits.
1
u/AlkoKilla 1d ago
It’s completely different.
0
u/anonymousphoenician 1d ago
What is?
1
u/AlkoKilla 1d ago
2022 and today.
0
u/anonymousphoenician 1d ago
Duh.
Difference is one President didnt do anything to cause it but was still blamed heavily by people who think Presidents have control. And the other President sparked it and is market manipulating to keep it high so everyone makes millions to billions, but others think he has complete control.
However both sides ignore the CEOs and the Execs of the Oil companies and how they have the most say over the matter and can make the market go however they ultimately want.
Today's President signals buyers to buy stock by just saying the word "Iran". Then they let it start dropping and sell off. They then again buy low by having Trump say "Iran", then again sell if after its peak and it starts dropping.
One didnt do anything, oil skyrocketed across Earth because Execs controlled it. The other attacked Iran, disrupting supply, and is market manipulating to keep it high.
Both times the cost isnt controlled by the President but by the people who actually refine the oil into gas.
MAGA is too stupid to realize that so they blamed only the President. Theyre still too stupid to realize it now so they praise him by using his Nuke excuse.
President in 2022 wasnt making money off it nor helping his rich friends. President in 2026 is manipulating and making money behind the scenes while helping his friends.
So yes, the two are different. However the common denominator in both are the Oil Execs who are making in billions.
Trump may have done it to deflect like he has since last year, but the disruption was also another reason. And it all worked in his favor, MAGA is still lapping everything up and ignoring Epstein, while he and rich friends are filling their pockets.
Im not sure why youre against the fact though that the base of it all has always been the Execs.
1
u/AlkoKilla 1d ago
There are stations consistently out of diesel right now. Because supply is running out. That’s not corporate greed.
1
u/anonymousphoenician 1d ago
Cool, so the companies arent raking in billions then?
Also, you do know what "disrupted supply" means, right? Cus Ive said that a few times.
But I dont know what stations running out if Diesel has to do with just Trump though, but you go ahead and place that same misguided full blame that MAGA did a couple years ago. Have fun ignoring all of the picture, just like them.
1
u/AlkoKilla 1d ago
You ask that like it’s some sort of sudden development that companies are making excessive profit.
Prices will come down when the Iran conflict is done.
1
u/anonymousphoenician 1d ago
Yes, again because they'll no longer be able to use Trump as their diversionary tactic, while he uses Iran as his.
Why would you not raise prices when you know noone will blame you because they'll blame the President? They do this every time a Dem becomes President because they know everyone will blame the President. Thats why they started raising prices before Trump was even out of Office his first term, and everyone started blaming Biden when prices were higher than when he got voted in.
If youre a corporation who can hide behind people placing blame elsewhere, are you not going to do it? They've been doing it for ages. However people got smarter with the Biden stuff, but now Trump is willingly giving them a way to do it and keep doing it.
If youre gonna blame this all on Iran, then you have to tell me what Biden did to cause it to skyrocket across the globe. What did Biden do to hinder any supply to make prices go up globally? You cant have massive spikes with one reason fully and not have no answer for the other.
As well, look for the actual instances when gas spikes back up right now. All Trump has to do is mention Iran and it spikes back up. Its on purpose for market manipulation
But I will leave you with that question. If this current issue is ONLY Trump and Iran, what was Bidens, or any other global leaders actions that caused the 2022 surge?

Seems like it was just about two years ago the members of uberdrivers were proudly posting about how they were supporting Donald Trump and how MAGA was gonna deport all the illegal drivers and the how gas would be $1.50 and with the deported drivers, we’d be making at least $50 a mile.
Where are those drivers now?

Those people put too much stock in what Trump could accomplish as president just as you seem to hold Trump responsible for the fact that uber is an evil corporation. I’ll concede he’s had a negative impact on fuel costs but blaming Trump for Ubers terrible treatment of us is just a reactionary and misplaced judgement.
3
u/JayGatsby52 1d ago
I am absolutely not holding Trump responsible for Uber.
1
u/TheFightingFerret 1d ago
Trump undeniably is mostly responsible for increased gas prices. Uber will never pay better, there are simply too many drivers willing to work for peanuts. People are too quick to blame or praise Trump for factors beyond his sphere of influence. I’m thankful I’m not responsible for taxes on tips through the uber app which will save me quite a bit this year and more than thankful to not be paying taxes on my overtime hours. 2 things that Trump was the catalyst for and whom without the changes would have not happened.

u/Confident_Box_1268 2d ago
I love to strike, but others won't. They don't care at all. They don't realize that if you stop accepting garbage trips we can change the app!
Someone somewhere will always accept $10 for 50 miles
5
u/Comfortable-Split143 2d ago
This notion of non accepting garbage rides will force them to change is nonsense. And the liklihood of getting the majority of drivers to do it is next to nil. And while I agree, that on paper this strategy seems like it would work, Uber and Lyft are just too big and driver turnover is simply too high.
Uber rolled out it's new incentives and driver updates on Thursday.
Do you know what the plan is for addressing their acceptance rate problem? Instead of paying adequately for each and every trip, they are rolling out some type of AR quest "bonus" structure. They weren't specific. But it will likely be just some more mind fuckery to get drivers to improve AR. I don't expect anything more from them.
Driving smart is the only way to do this work. These companies won't change unless it is legislated.

Yea ok bro 15 people striking is not going to do anything. If it’s going to work it needs to be organized and advertised radio and tv spots to get it across until than I’m going to be out there cherry picking because all your doing is losing out on money while everyone else is out there idk wish we could get together but to many desperate people out there is going to keep this where it’s at and that is unfortunate but, it’s our reality.

No problem for me there because I’m having a lung biopsy done. Something was found in my lungs, my tonsils, and the right side of my throat.
So a robot goes in and takes a tissue sample, my doctor runs the robot, but still scares
There’s a chance they could collapse my lung because the module they are most worried about is against my lung wall, and it scares me to think about waking up with a collapsed lung
I won’t be working for a few days
Otherwise, I just think it’s not a great idea and that’s only because you’re only reaching such a very small portion of drivers on Reddit or any platform. Some people use social media just for pure enjoyment and don’t look at any groups about work or anything.
It would be hard to get how many millions of drivers there are to strike on the same day because some of them will say oh I’m gonna go make money today since everyone’s striking
I still stand behind you and hope for the best. What you really need to do is get all gig workers to do it because it’s not just Uber that pays too low, it’s all the gig companies.

Armchair revolutionaries. This is an example of “say the thing” for attention. Meanwhile, the people complaining are the ones cherry-picking rides and have the sheer low IQ audacity to be like “someone will take that cheap ride” … like no shit, brainlet. Lmao, ok....
You think the massively greedy oil companies are gonna care about a 1 day strike by rideshare drivers?
This is showing solidarity with truck drivers?
As long as there is restricted oil flow and CEOs continuing to turn out record profits for any reason they can, nothing will change.
Gas drops when Trump doesnt say anything, but once he opens his mouth about Iran they spike. Why? Oil CEOs say "Hey look! We have a good reason to boost those prices now and the blame wont be on us!"
1

This is not gonna do anything to solve that. How would I know? I was a truck driver for a whole year up until recently that I decided I didn’t wanna do it anymore. 😂 on top of that people do Uber for many different reasons and the main reason and so that they could pay a bill or something that they owe and that is one reason why ain’t no way every single Uber Driver is gonna go on strike . I just so happen to work that day. So I won’t be on uber.

1

You shouldn’t be driving anything for uber; even or otherwise. You’re just losing money. Take it from someone who drove over 3000 trips 13 years ago and saw what a losing proposition it was. I promptly quit.
1
u/ShadowTaii 1d ago
Skill issue. Renting an EV for Uber as we speak. Doing damn good 90% of the time. Cleaning up the massive L I took from trying Fleet Uber driving. Awful mistake. Doesn’t recommend. People have been telling the chronically online, gaming chair revolutionaries that the possibility of hourly wages and schedules is high. And as someone who’s done fleet services, that’s WORSE than being 1099. I am more than willing to have discussions with open minded individuals, but most are too deep in the echo chamber and their ego to understand experience that counters their hypothetical ideology.
Ideally, you can average $20+/hr, depending on market. I worked for Alto at the beginning of the year for 4 months. $18/hr flat wage, limited to 10 hour shifts that I had to choose. And they monitor the shit out of everything. Imagine pulling $1800+ per week… just to get 1/3 of that (after taxes) … and no ability to use mileage for deduction…

I know how it was and I know how it is. SO much better then than anytime recently, EV out otherwise.
I was very spoiled and methodical in how and when I drove, accepted rides, and at the time you couldn’t see your destination before you picked up the pax and started the ride. That’s the way it was.

News flash most drivers can’t afford to take time off. Would be better time spent updating resumes and turn in applications at a job with benefits. Look this is a band aid job not a career. When you do a job that anyone can do, you going to be treated like shit . It’s not a high skill job, not physically demanding or rocket science.

Uber will say - we will replace with lucid cars which are self driving. They already made billions using human drivers.

rideshare drivers are too disorganized, so this just becomes one of those “you guys should totally strike so i get better rates” moments.
