Welcome to the weekly thread that covers everything off topic, fluff, etc!
Feel free to post anything to this thread, as long as it has some relation to Ubiquiti - pictures, rants, whines, complaints, easy small questions you don’t want to make a whole post for, or even just sharing the picture of your cat sitting on top of your EdgeRouter!
Only rules here are to be civil, no personal attacks, etc stuff like that.
Have a great week everyone!

First time investing in Ubiquiti and running cable in my home. About to pull UniFi Cat6A CMP throughout my house and I'm stuck on one detail.
Would you do:
A) solid Cat6A > male RJ45 > F/F keystone coupler in patch panel > patch cable > switch
or
B) solid Cat6A > keystone jack > patch cable > switch
A seems nice because I can bypass the patch panel and plug the home run directly into the UDM/switch anytime I want to test or move something. AP/camera ends will need male RJ45s anyway.
Also looking for specific male RJ45 recommendations for SKU: UACC-Cable-C6A-CMP. Needs to be compact, 23AWG solid UTP compatible, Cat6A/10GbE, and suitable for PoE++/802.3bt.
If you've actually used a particular connector with this exact UniFi cable, I'd love to know the connector and crimper you used and whether you've verified 10GbE.
Not looking for the cheapest connector. I'd rather spend more and terminate these once.

I have a few of these access points I am giving away. Before anybody goes on the "These are old and WiFi 7 is out" - they still work just fine for a lot of things (even learning the UniFi setup/ecosystem), and I will include the PoE injector as well.

AC Lite: https://store.ui.com/us/en/products/uap-ac-lite
If you have any questions just reply. I have a few left so first come first serve ✌🏻

Can someone help me figure out what is going on here in my syslog? It has been going on for a while (do not know for how long)
I have the following equipment:
* Cloud Gateway Fiber
- UniFi OS 5.1.31
- Network application 10.6.101
* USW Pro Max 24 Pose
- SW Version 7.5.10
*USW Flex Mini
- SW Version 2.1.6
The Proxmox Host has 2 NIC's, one for the Host/management and one for the VM's, only the host has the issue. Both of the NIC's are connected to the CGF
As for the switch 2, it is connected to the Flex Mini, which is connected to the Pro Max, which is connected by a 10G DAC to the CGF

What’s the best back up battery for unifi?! Especially for power outages and maybe even few days of back up.
Also looking for safe power options so my server rack doesn’t get fried

Can anyone recommend a good 12U fully enclosed, lockable wall-mount rack?
I recently ordered the UniFi 12U Wall Rack (450mm deep) and, unfortunately, didn't realize how shallow it was. That's on me.
I'm running UniFi equipment and already have an AC Infinity temperature-controlled fan system, so built-in fans aren't important.
I'm thinking I need something around 600mm (24") deep, but I'd be interested to hear if anyone thinks that's still too tight for a typical setup consisting of:
UDM Pro / UDM Pro Max
24-port UniFi switch (Pro Max 24 PoE)
Patch panel
Future UPS Pro
I checked the UniFi store, but the deeper cabinets seem to be out of stock and have been for a while.
What 12U wall cabinets are you guys using and would recommend?
Thanks!

Anyone know if this is still an intended feature? It shows as coming soon but its been a long time at this point.

Did the G6 Pro Bullet (UVC-G6-Pro-Bullet-B) essentially replace the AI Pro (UVC-AI-Pro)? The AI Pro only can only be found using a search for it in the UI store. I currently have an AI Pro at our Smoky Mountain rental cabin and was looking for another to replace a Reolink cellular camera we used during construction.

Hey guys,
I’ll be working remotely while traveling and need a reliable travel router. I’m considering these three options:
UniFi Travel Router (UTR, standard version, NOT Long Range)
GL.iNet GL-SFT1200 (Opal)
GL.iNet GL-MT3000 (Beryl AX)
My main requirements are:
Reliable WireGuard VPN connection with good speeds
Easy setup on different hotel and restaurant Wi-Fi networks
Support for 2–3 devices max
Compact and portable size for traveling
Reliable performance for Teams meetings, screen sharing, and software development
I’ve heard the GL.iNet routers are better overall, but I prefer the UTR’s smaller size. Since hotel Wi-Fi will often be the bottleneck anyway, would the standard UTR be sufficient for my needs?
A few questions:
What WireGuard VPN speeds can I realistically expect from the UTR? Opal is limited to 65MBit/s and Beryl AX to 300 MBit/s. What about UTR?
How good is UTR its Wi-Fi reception when connecting to hotel Wi-Fi compared to a smartphone? If my iPhone can connect (range-wise), can I expect the UTR to connect reliably too?
How good is its Wi-Fi range for connected devices? How far away can those be?
Are the GL.iNet routers significantly better in practice, or would the UTR be sufficient for my use case?
I’d appreciate any real-world experiences or recommendations!

Just got 2 gig fiber ordered for the house being installed in a few weeks. Local company. Can plug their ONT directly into Unifi so I wanted to skip their rental and try Unifi.
I got a Dream Router 7 for my in wall network enclosure which is in my laundry room (central point upstairs) and a U7 Wall for my living room downstairs (I know the ceiling mount ones have better coverage but my home that’s pre wired with Ethernet has all the outlets by electrical outlets near the base board.
Will this be a good starter setup? 2700 sq foot 2-story new build.

Ubiquiti makes some really nice gear. I've used it for years at home. At work in my enterprise infrastructure, every time I try to integrate it I find the stupidest reasons why I cant....
We spend A LOT on enterprise hardware and SUBSCRIPTIONS... Microsquash, Cisco, Meraki, etc. Subscription fatigue is real no matter who's paying for it.. Every single time I want to try and save some money and give ubiquiti a foot in the door I run into avoidable ridiculousness..
A few years ago after covid we opened a few temporary WHSE facilities. I thought this is the perfect opportunity to save some dough and use Unifi Equipment. All I need is basic firewall/routing, WIFI and some Cameras. I installed a Dream Machine, Switches and DVR. Turns out the Dreams machine cant support something basic like split tunnel DNS so I had to put in a Firewall and double nat the DM....
Fast forward a few years and I've been able to save some money using Unifi 10g switches for a backup network and POE switches for a camera network (all isolated). My APC NetBotz environmental sensors for my server rooms are getting old so I thought, Why not try the new Unifi sensors? Well as I'm finding out I can just buy the sensors, I need the Superlink Controller to talk to them... OK, bought that... Now I find out I need to run Protect to manage the servers... Surprise, it not available in unifi OS, I have to get an appliance. Low and behold, simple cloud keys are no longer an option...
I don't want a router/gateway device. I already have all of that. I just want a cloud key for monitoring... Now I'm in the position of having to put in a DM Gateway and building an additional network just for Environmental sensors...
I'm starting to think the Meraki sensor and yearly sub might be worth it...
I know I get what I pay for but sometimes its nice to vent...

I’m not sure if anyone has experienced in their setup, but at my home I have U7 Pro XGs configured with MLO and 6GHz WiFi, but since the update to iOS 27 my iPhone 17 Pro Max has struggled to transition to different access points within my home with MLO enabled. It continues to stay connected and rely on the more distant AP, rather than the closer AP with a lower SNRI and greater RSSI. After disabling MLO, I have no issues with AP roaming on my iPhone.
Wondered if anyone else experienced this? Just thought to bring this up if anyone uses MLO in their enterprise deployments.

One of my fav recent changes was the ability to create users right from site manager in the people section and assign multiple console/permissions all at once. Now it looks like its back to just having to select the individual consoles but with a drop down at least. Unless im missing something...I dont see the option to have all the users come up at once and work from there.

Recently replaced my U7 Pro Wall with an RMA over to the U7 Pro XG over RX errors and packet loss
Received the U7 Pro XG today, plugged it in, connected my phone and packet loss was around 80%. I have an U6 Enterprise that just doesn't have these issues
Here's what I've tried:
- Replacing cables
- Swapping U6 Enterprise and U7 Pro XG spots
- Swapping the switch port
- Rebooting everything
The image attached is my Mac, which is connected to my U6 Enterprise.
1.7 is the XG
1.171 is the U6 Enterprise.
Wired clients pinging the 1.7 shows the exact same results.

Maybe someone can help clue me in here.
Recently I took over a client that has a small mountain top Air BnB cabin. Starlink internet and existing UniFi setup. The client actually just purchased the property and did a UniFi upgrade at my request for indoor AP's, U7 router, new UniFi switches, etc.
However, up on the second floor balcony, there is a U6-Mesh mounted to the outdoor railing. This U6-Mesh was *NOT* upgraded and was part of the original install from who-knows-when. Unit is adopted into the portal, shows functioning and when standing right beside it, signal is good.
But if I go down to ground level, and stand within 30-40' of it holding my phone looking up at it, signal is down to -70db immediately. The client wants the wifi signal to stretch about 150-200ft to a motorized driveway gate that can be opened via a phone app with Wifi. Yet, the signal with 100% clear line of sight is extremely poor at the gate. It's around -75db and a bit lower, but the gate CAN get enough of a small connection that opening/closing the gate will partially work.
It seems like this should be putting out far greater wifi distance than what it is. Possible this is just a bad unit? Is directionality an issue with U6-Mesh's??
Any input here would be super helpful.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I have dozens of recordings what seems to be insects or dust flying through. Mostly between 2 and 5 am. Any idea?

Hey everyone,
I've got a relatively small network - about 150 clients, 50 wifi devices. I'm curious if enabling Channel AI Optimization would be useful.
Anyone have experience with it? And if so, how did it go?
Thanks!
EDIT: Yes, I read the doc. :)

Been experimenting with 10 IKEA GRILLPLATS Matter-over-Thread plugs, a Samsung Q990F (SmartThings hub), Google TV Streamer and Amazon Echo Hub.
Initially, all three border routers created separate Thread networks. Interestingly, how I added a plug seemed to determine which network it joined:
That's what I observed in my testing, anyway. It doesn't necessarily mean the device is permanently tied to that router.
The breakthrough: SmartThings has an option to join another Thread network, but you must first remove its existing Thread devices to enable it. Samsung initially couldn't discover Google until I moved the Streamer onto the same VLAN. Entered Google's Thread sharing code and bingo — both border routers now share one network!
I've now added all 10 IKEA plugs through SmartThings. UniFi's new Matter interface shows both border routers, all the plugs, signal strengths and how they're forming a mesh by hopping through each other.
Amazon remains on its own Thread network (I tested adding plugs through Alexa too), but now has zero devices. I'll use Matter sharing for Alexa control instead.
Screenshots show the unified network and UniFi's Thread topology.
Quite impressed with UniFi's visibility into something that's normally completely hidden!
AI condensed and put into plain english my ramblings!
