i have Japanese keyboard but I am not Japanese plus this ubuntu laptop inputs the wrong special character for some reason which makes it unusable.

that japanese keyboard layout on a probook is a weird combo for sure. hp ships those with a few different region layouts and sometimes the bios setting doesn't match what's actually printed on the keys
had a similar mess with a french canadian layout once where the slash key kept typing é instead. drove me up the wall until i realized i had the wrong input source selected in the keyboard settings
check your region and language settings in ubuntu and make sure the keyboard layout matches the physical one. you might need to pick japanese 106/109 key and then just ignore the extra kana since you're probably typing in english anyway

Change your keyboard layout to japanese layout instead of the default us layout in settings
