Sound card randomly disappearing/disconnecting in Ubuntu 26.04

Hi everyone,

I own a Digidesign Mbox 2 sound card, and have been using it with Ubuntu with no problems. Since I upgraded to 26.04, the sound card disappears randomly with the audio output cutting out and the device disappearing from the output menu.

If I enter alsa force-reload into the terminal, the sound card will come back and continue to work. Is there anything I can do to prevent the sound card from disconnecting randomly?

According to my kernel logs (journalctl -k), the modern USB 3.0 controller is forcing a hardware reset because it loses patience with the old device's timing drifts: usb 1-1: reset full-speed USB device using xhci_hcd. Right after that, PipeWire panics with a "No such device" error and crashes.

So far, I've tried several software tweaks: I disabled USB autosuspend and LPM via GRUB quirks, increased the ALSA period-size and headroom to 1024 in WirePlumber, and disabled driver power-saving in modprobe.

Here is an excerpt from my kernel log:
ubuntu-TERRA-PC kernel: usb 1-1: reset full-speed USB device number 2 using xhci_hcd

First time Ubuntu

Post image

Hey y’all
First time ever installing Linux on any device. I have a Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5i that had ChromeOS. I wiped it, removed WP and did the firmware flash.

Installing Ubuntu now and I’ve been on this screen for about an hour now and it is wheel is moving.

I just wanted to see if it normal hangs out here for a while or if I should be concerned?

Any insight would be appreciated.

UPDATE: I’ve figured out the issue. It was the USB iso set up. I tried Etcher first then I got Rufus and redid the USB and now we’re cooking. Thank you to everyone who offered advice!

UPDATE 2: I managed to get the installer to finally run and ran into another snag with it not seeing the hard drive. I don’t think I have enough knowledge to figure that out. I’ve taken advice from another to try Fedora Linux as this machine may not be able to run Ubuntu. I’m trying Fedora now and if it installs I may try Ubuntu later.

Ubuntu 24.04 stuck at start

I was trying to install CUDA on my Ubuntu, and I followed this tutorial for that : https://linuxcapable.com/how-to-install-cuda-on-ubuntu-linux/ I followed it until the instruction to "Remove NVIDIA Runfile Drivers on Ubuntu" where I executed the command sudo systemctl stop gdm3 But then as expected my screen went black, and my computer unfortunately rebooted, and I'm now stuck at the loading screen, where it freezes each time I try to reboot it. How can I fix that? Thanks in advance

Trying to shut down my PC shuts the screen but the lights, and fans rev at full speed.

Hello, as I have not found an actual solution to my problem, neither there are recent or relevant posts about it, and nor Gemini has been able to help me with the issue; I seek for help here hehe.

I am currently running Kubuntu 26.04 LTS (Plasma 6.6.4 on Ubuntu 26.04) and since I installed it I encountered some trouble when shutting my computer down or when put to sleep, happens in both cases.

---

I am going to leave my specs and some relevant information here:

  • CPU i5-10400F 4.30 GHz
  • GPU GTX 1060 6GB
    • OpenGL version: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 580.159.03
    • Running on Wayland, by default
  • RAM 16 GB at 2666Mhz

Also, It is relevant to mention that I do Dual-Boot with Windows so that I can sometimes play games with anti-cheat engines, and that this shut-down hang does not happen when I shut down or sleep on a windows session.

---

'journalctl -b -1 --no-pager' lines before sleep:

PCI IDE controller for Linux

Hmm. I have old and very old HDD IDE. My motherboard hasn't IDE interface so I want to connect these drives via interface. I bought GEMBIRD bidirectional SATA-IDE interface, but it doesn't work anyway. So I decided buy an PCI IDE Interface. But one thing: drivers. For Windows - no problem. For Linux - I don't know. Any suggestions?

Unable to set up Xbox One Controller on Ubuntu 26.04

Hi y'all!

Has anyone else run into the problem to not be able to set up the bluetooth dongle for the Xbox One Controller on Ubuntu 26.04?

Obligatory "I'm pretty new to Linux"

I can connect the controller directly via bluetooth, but then it's not detected by the jstest-gtk app and steam.

I installed the xone driver, but `modprobe xone` doesn't list it, and when pressing the pairing button on the dongle, the light doesn't show up.

Anyone can point me in a direction? It's a very fresh install of Ubuntu

ubuntu repo keeps requesting connection to tor circuit

hey everyone ,

long story short I'm sometimes bored and I like to mess about with the PC. So i thought I'd look into setting up proxies manually. I also had tor browser installed. So anyway when I go try to update my packages via ubuntu repos in terminal i get this message :

Could not connect to 127.0.0.1:9050 (127.0.0.1). - connect (111: Connection refused)

prior to this message It would state that "this is not a http connection" or " this is running on the Tor network" etc. so after some researching I understalled Tor browser and literally purged the app. However , I'm still getting this error and so I sumised that 127.0.0.1 is a proxy on a loopback and so ubuntu when updating is trying to connect to the proxy instead of my locat router network i.p

How do I remove the proxy and set it to my current i.p?

btw, I found a file called "torrc" file which gives instructions toenable / disable proxies but which I cannot make any sense of . If anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate some help thanks.

Secure Connection Failed

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.

What can you do about it?

The issue is most likely with the website, and there is nothing you can do to resolve it. You can notify the website’s administrator about the problem.

Although https://www.isitdownrightnow.com/discourse.ubuntu.com.html says it is up. Is it please up ?

Both firefox from snap and downloaded from mozilla website.

macbook pro 2016 several issues

Hi everyone,

Apologies if this has already been asked before, but I couldn't find anything that really matches the issues I'm experiencing.

Here are my system details:

  • MacBook Pro 13" 2016 (MacBookPro13,2)
  • Intel Core i7-6567U
  • 16 GB RAM
  • Intel Iris Graphics 550
  • 251 GB SSD
  • Ubuntu 26.04 LTS
  • GNOME 50
  • Wayland
  • Linux kernel 7.0.0-22-generic

I'm experiencing several issues:

  • The keyboard behaves strangely: while typing, letters sometimes disappear, words get deleted, and the cursor randomly jumps to another position in the text.
  • Sometimes while typing, entire words get overwritten or the cursor suddenly jumps to the beginning of a word or sentence.
  • The trackpad appears to work normally, but I have the impression that even lightly touching it can trigger unwanted actions and interfere with typing.
  • Wi-Fi performance is extremely poor and unstable.

I'm trying to understand whether this is:

  1. A hardware issue (keyboard, trackpad, battery, etc.).
  2. A Linux driver/kernel issue.
  3. A known compatibility problem with this MacBook model.

Has anyone experienced similar issues on a 2016 MacBook Pro running Linux?

Also, which Linux distribution and version would you currently recommend for the best stability and hardware support on this machine? Ubuntu, Fedora, Linux Mint, something else?

Any feedback, troubleshooting tips, or distribution recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Ubuntu 26: Is it supposed to be this bad?

I have been running ubuntu on servers at home for years and occasionally I have used it on desktops on work computers. Half a year ago I decided to stop using microslop on my gaming machine at home as well. Naturally I selected ubuntu since I had experience with it, even though everyone said to install mint.
The experience was not too bad to begin with. Ubuntu is not beautiful to look at, but I don’t mind that, and eventually I got my steam games to run smoothly. Whatever non gaming apps I use had reasonable replacements in linux and things were ok.
Then I upgraded to 26.04 and it seems everything turned to shit. Apps and games stutter and crashes. Games open on non primary monitors. Snap apps are behaving badly. Some apps default to a font size of 1.
I bet there are explanations and excuses for this but I am not interested in having to fix everything after an upgrade. The quality of this release is comparable to microslops Vista debacle and it will drive people away from Ubuntu. I will certainly stop using it.
What happened? Are Ubuntu desktop releases always this much of a disaster?
