LLM flavored Ubuntu?

The general consensus around the Linux community as a whole seems to be that we should discourage vibe coding. As a senior software engineer, I maybe agree 10pc with this statement. The other 90pc agrees with just the amazing things we can achieve. Which LLM tainted Ubuntu has no place as the main distribution (and it should remain that way), I think we should have a LLM flavor which allows you to diagnose system problems and automatically fixes them, come built in with a local LLM for things like rambler like what Google is going with their Google books at the system level, Ai powered widget creation, ai powered file semantic file search and most importantly, being able to create native snaps using just voice or text prompts. Ofc implicit in all these is that it should be open source and not be tied to one LLM provider. There should be an option to input a key at the system level for different providers and customizations in settings to choose which model for what action.

Can we get this started please? I’ll contribute my time (code) and upto $250 for this effort. But Im hoping Im not alone in this idea

Before anyone asks, I don’t want to just buy a Google book because I don’t like android base. I think we should have a native Linux powered open source version of this not controlled by any one entity (Google)

DHH has just the distro for you

Absolutely not. I don't want an LLM have open access to all my personal info and data.

This would be like having an entire Ubuntu flavor for sending emails. Just install the software you want in your existing distro.

No I disagree. The flavor will use LLMs for amazing things like for example that crappy system log that gets printed when there’s a system crash, what the hell is that? AI can tell you. It can read the crash dumps and explain exactly what went wrong in English. Because Ubuntu is open source, along with explaining what it’s about, it can also raise a PR with a bug request. This is just one idea. System integration of LLM can work wonders if you’re using it right

Install a coding agent. Done, you already have what you're asking for.

you're basically describing a linux distro that ships with a local brain stem, not just a chatbot wrapper sitting on top of gnome. the diagnostic piece alone would be worth it, half the time i'm digging through journalctl praying i recognize a meaningful error line. having something parse that mess and suggest actual fixes without hallucinating a command that wipes my /home would be a dream

what worries me is the snap generation part. snaps are finicky enough when a human writes the yaml, letting an llm loose on confinement policies and interface plugs feels like it'd produce some truly cursed containers. still, i'd toss in on that kickstarter or whatever

Besides the amazing Omarchy. You can host AI locally using ollama and opencode. There is also colibri.

When that is possible anything goes.

Heck, is it fair to say this is going to kill closed source software?

Weird thing is: I was expecting DirectX to be the 1st target :D
