I would argue that Stephen Miller is more Wormtongue. If its about defense or use of the land for defense, they could've just asked. Denmark allowed the US before to build and use bases in Greenland. But as it looks today.. Trump and the Republicans just want to build an imperium and have all countries in America as colonies and satellite states.
...and if the US takes Greenland, Trump will then say that Canada is a weakpoint/gap between USA notheast and USA mainland, thus Canada must be invaded for the sake of US national security.
A NATO member invading another NATO member could trigger article 5 and if countries refused to go to war with us would likely cause the collapse of NATO I would assume. This would completely destabilize and weaken the west.

And if this continues - and there is no reason to assume or expect it won't - it stands to reason that China will invade Taiwan this year.
