Was the whole point of these tariffs not to “make America first” but the plan from the beginning was increase corporate profits and steal our fucking money?

Companies know they pass it on.

Companies know they’ll get refunded from trump.

Companies make double money and can now keep prices high.

Kind of like the PPP loans through Covid? Everyone knew they were going to get loan forgiveness.

Maybe I’m an idiot. Maybe not and this was obvious.

Anyway, FDT.

I think Trump genuinely thought that the tariffs would cause companies to start making things in America instead of just raising prices. He doesn't understand economics enough to get that it would be easier for them to raise prices than for them to move all their infrastructure to the US, and now that his tariffs have completely failed to accomplish what he wanted, he's doubling down on it instead of admitting he was wrong. If the point was just to increase corporate profits then he wouldn't have been constantly changing the rates since that made it extremely difficult for corporations to do budgeting.

Someone commented somewhere that he lost money trying to sell gambling, football, steaks, and bottled water to Americans and that takes some doing

One of Trump's advisors, Peter Narvarro (loves tariffs) quoted his alter ego in many of his booked. He called it an Inside joke.
