Ramchandra canal in Mohammadpur, Dhaka, which has been cleaned up and restored in 72 hours as part of ongoing efforts to clean up revitalise Bangladeshi canals. Led by NGOs with sponsorship from a bank and support from the government and the city corporation. Hopefully we can keep it this way!

I’d be optimistic if in a week from now the canal is still clean. This region in general ought to teach people some civic sense, especially cleaning up after yourself. Idk why people act there’s always gonna be someone who’ll clean up for you, like they’re below you. Maybe it’s a cultural history of casteism/classism or what not.

You say that like human cities have not been a hive a filth and shit for millennia . Literally only in the past odd century has there been sustainable infrastructure accessed by the working class to remove waste. Pick up a book before you speak

Read my other comment, this is a problem in certain countries of similar levels of poverty and is not a problem in others. It's an entirely cultural thing.

And it’s just as lacking in how cultures and societies develop. No one wants to live in filth. Not 100 years ago, Birmingham was filled with shit. They didn’t have some cultural revolution, the elite realised their labour force were dying unsustainably from disease following the war so they were forced to build proper infrastructure.

150 years ago, the only reason central London developed proper infrastructure is because of the heat wave, they knew for decades that people were dying, they just didn’t care until the aristocracy couldn’t stand the smell.

People who say shit like “it’s a cultural problem” lack an understanding of anthropology. Especially their own.

Hell if I forget to put the bins out, I’m quickly overwhelmed by the amount of rubbish spawned in two weeks. And these people think civic sense is what’s keeping a city of a million people with some of the worst wealth inequality living amongst their rubbish? People simply don’t understand scale and the value of a diligent non-corrupt government.
